  1. wtf was that Fuk? I thought you were good at defense?
  2. Thank God the Cubs open on the road this year while the Sox open up in Chicago. Supposed to get up to 5 inches of snow Sunday night into Monday afternoon and the high will only be around 35ish. Won't feel like opening day at all but I'll manage :) Btw long range forecasts have highs in the 60s and sunny next Monday.
  3. He also threw over 600 passes last year, so his actual % of passes that led to an INT is lower. But then I guess using that logic somewhat discredits his 25 TD. You also gotta think that next year is his third full season starting as a QB. Here is what some other prominent NFL QBs did between their second and third seasons. Drew Brees: 2nd year: 11 TD, 15 INT (11 games) 3rd year: 27 TD, 7 INT (15 games) Peyton Manning: 2nd year: 26 TD, 15 INT (16 games) 3rd year: 33 TD, 15 INT (16 games) Brett Favre: 2nd year: 19 TD, 24 INT (16 games) 3rd year: 33 TD, 14 INT (16 games) Jay Cutler: 2nd year: 25 TD, 18 INT (16 games) 3rd year: ???
  4. The bears do have holes which they do need to address but since when is it ever a bad thing to address one of your biggest holes with one of the best players at that position. Agreed. I am not saying we don't have holes. We have tons. But give us some damn credit. We did what you said we needed to do...we filled the QB position with one of the best in the league.
  5. It's kinds funny that for years all the talking heads said about the bears was that they were missing a qb and should do ANYTHING possible to get a qb. Seriously it got to the point that whenever the bears were mentioned on ESPN they immediatly brought up the qb issues, even if they were discussing something about the Bears D. Now the detractors of this trade are saying "who cares who the qb is? They have so many other holes." So annoying.
  6. When is the last time our bullpen didn't give up a bunch of runs? Has to be like 2 weeks ago...
  7. Ahh the last game of the Cactus League for another year. After this is off to NY for a pair, a day off Sunday and then the season starts!!
  8. From Jayson Stark chat:
  9. What happened to last years Rule 5 pick? I think his name was Evan Meek. We sure had fun pounding him around last April.
  10. Ouch....sounds like a personal attack :)
  11. Ummm....horrible April Fools joke! 0-0 in the 2nd
  12. I'm not disappointed. I would never hope for an injury to be serious. Call it old school, but I'm in the "beat them when they are at their best" camp for whatever reason.
  13. It's a good thing the Blackhawks were absolutely awesome for a decent part of the season, because if we had to win games right now to stay in the playoff race, we'd be in deep trouble.
  14. I don't think you are the only one. Check out how long NSBB's game threads are for spring training games this year vs. last year. I think only one thread last year went less than 2 pages, and a lot of them 4-5 pages. Now this year a majority of them are less than 2 pages. Either less people are posting at NSBB, or there has been a remarkable reduction in interest between last spring and this spring. I tend to believe part of it is that Cubs fans in general now look forward to October more than April. We've done all we can do from April-September, and now we want to succeed in October. Doesn't mean we won't follow the Cubs in the regular season that much less, or our sphincters won't get tight when Gregg is on the mound with a runner in scoring position protecting a 1 run lead. It just means in general, Cubs fans (at least not insane ones like some of us) see the bigger picture. Of course as always, feel free to dig up this post and send it to me after the Cubs first 3 game losing streak.
  15. Anyone pick up playoff tickets this morning? For some reason I thought they went on sale at 11 AM, not 10 AM so when I got on, there aren't any seats left for game 1, and scattered seats for the other games of round 1.
  16. Meh, personally I think it's dumb to wear the jersey of a team that's not playing in the game you are going to, especially if its a rival of the home team, but that's just me.
  17. Yeah if anyone is up for a mini-NSBB meet, we can definitely try to meet up. I will be with a couple of my buddies also going to the game. Not sure which establishment we will be frequenting yet though.
  18. Remember that Rich is behind the others in terms of gearing up for the season. He also might be saving his shoulder from throwing full speed until the season starts.
  19. Blasphemy! I know...he completely misspelled "gets even more awesome" and somehow confused the words "possibility" and "certainty"
  20. Also 14 days 2 hours and 6 minutes until the first home game of the year. And 11 days, 4 hours and 6 minutes until the first quasi-home game of the year.
  21. Yep because we were getting above average quality Major League production at 2B, C, CF. For at least two of those positions, the jury is still out on how they will perform. Plus although Lee wasn't giving us adequate offensive production, he still gives us presumably much better defense at first than Hoff would. Neither Fontenot, Soto, nor Johnson have shown us any indication that they wont be able to produce this season. My point is that DeRosa having a .860 OPS and Edmonds doing what he did was giving the Cubs above average production at lesser offensive positions negating the fact that Lee was one of the worst offensive 1B for a large part of last year. There is no indication that their replacements won't produce, but will they produce as well as the numbers they are replacing to offset a Lee injury or ineffectiveness?

  23. I'm pretty sure that BCB's discussion threads are more heavily moderated than this site. Is it really a big deal either way if you can swear or not? Does swearing really help you present your thoughts and insights more effectively?
  24. Started with Buff punching Luongo in the face. No exaggeration. The guys all got together and it looked like it would calm down. Then someone from VAN came rushing in, Eager and Bieksa and Burish and Burroughs squared off and went. Eager walloped Bieksa pretty good. It was actually pretty dangerous looking because their helmets were off and they were slamming each other to the ice. I can't WAIT for the playoffs :)
