If history is any guide, they'll be greeted with apathy more than anything else. I remember numerous games towards the end of 2006 with empty seats and quiet fans. Well, the 2006 team wasn't expected to do crap. This team was and has failed beyond belief. Maybe the expectations weren't super high but there were expectations for that team. Until Derrek Lee went down we were doing ok. Not saying we would have been much better but there were a lot of injuries that year. It reminds me a little bit of how our starting staff keeps getting injured. I think we saw 17 starting pitchers that year....Mateo, Marmol, Ryu, Walrond, Marshall, Maddux, Zambrano, Hill, Guzman, Prior, Wood, O'Malley, Jerome Williams, Wade Miller, Rusch...I'm probably missing a few. -

Yup, I think I'd rather root for the wheels to fall off than keep clinging onto hope that the Cubs can somehow overcome their minuscule odds and make the playoffs. Id definitely rather root for the sneaking into the playoffs option, but I suppose if your rooting for the wheels falling off option, your a lot less likely to be dissapointed. Well yeah...obviously I'd rather the Cubs make the playoffs than have the team completely collapse. But the odds are lessening by the day, so rather then cling onto something that is so unlikely to happen and will disapoint me when it doesn't, I'd rather just cheer for epic failure. Freddy Bynum 4 errors in a game failure. -

7 games back. This team isn't capable of erasing that type of lead. But we were capable of coming back from 6? I think people were praying to somehow pickup a game or two this weekend. 4 games back with games in hand and three against STL isn't so bad. Tonight was an important night because the Dodgers have not been playing well and many felt this is one of the games we had the pitching advantage. Well yeah, but the pitching advantage is erased when your guy only goes 5, in order to get Aaron Miles ABs.

Do tell. I mean, I fully expect Lou to run and hide after this season, but sooner??? It was a lot of speculation, but the discussion was that Lou is very frustrated and could possibly step down as soon as the Cubs are mathematically eliminated. He said it is pretty much a foregone conclusion that he won't be back next year. Well then...who replaces him? Will they make a splash like they have the last 3 managers, or will they go in house and hire someone like Trammel?

It was because Lou wanted Aaron Miles to bat. Stupid on so many levels. 1) Aaron Miles is horrible 2) Gorzolanny has 2 RBIs in 3 starts for the Cubs; Miles has 3 RBIs all season 3) Even if the move did work, Lou was playing for one run (becuase with Miles SLG there was no way the runner at first would have scored), so basically he was trusting his middle relief, which has been shaky all year, to protect a 1 run lead for 4 innings against a pretty good offense. 4) Stupid Lou

Haha, I was just thinking to myself before the inning that it was nice to have a close ballgame to enjoy because I hadn't been enjoying baseball much lately. So much for that.

That's the second time in 1.5 weeks that there was a play at 3rd on a bunt and there wasn't a 3B there to cover the bag. What a stupid team.

He might acknowledge that he screwed up, but he also knows that his moves last year got him tons of praise, as did his move to pick up Baker, and his Grabow/Gorzo trade. No matter how bad his offseason moves are, he knows that he's made some good moves and some bad moves. He has made the playoffs 3 of the last 6 years, so I doubt Hendry believes he's doing something wrong with regards to his approach as a GM. He probably chalks things up to "all gms make some good moves and some bad moves." Based on his comments throughout this year, he seems to be very sure that there was no way last year's team would compete for a championship this year unless some changes were made. Although he made the wrong moves, I'm sure he still believes he needed to make changes. Basically what I'm saying is, that unless he gets fired, he won't change the way he builds next year's team. I think he's had enough success to be sure enough in what he's doing and one bad year won't change it. I don't agree with this at all, but I'm trying to think from his perspective.
