  1. I think Taj will be a decent 8th or 9th man off the bench providing energy and hustle, which isn't the end of the world. Teams still need those. At 26th, you can either take a high risk medium reward player, or you can take a player with a lower ceiling but much lower risk. At least that's my opinion.
  2. Chip Carey just called another can of corn a base hit before correcting himself. It was a sinking line drive but it was really never in doubt that it was gonna be caught, and he said "base h-...I mean an out. That ball almost dropped in there" (it didnt)
  3. 2-0 Twins, CC is starting to implode in the postseason again. These Yankees fans remind me a lot of the Cubs last year. Their fans are quiet and seem scared waiting for the bottom to fall out. Guess you don't need a 100 year drought to feel that way....
  4. He's got a chance to be pretty freaking good, that's the obsession. That he was top 10 talent with knee issues that scared off 80% of the NBA, but as a very late first round pick, it's certainly worth the gamble. The reward is definitely worth taking the risk as you will see this year.
  5. My thoughts exactly. BTB, why?
  6. He would never admit it, and it's quite a convenient excuse, but Dempster seemed to have pitched better after the issues with his daughter got much less serious.
  7. I know how many damn bullpen arms do they have there that they can count on? I know it's still expanded rosters but how many of those guys do you feel comfortable throwing out there.
  8. I would die for the Cubs to play a game this good with this much on the line. It's too bad the Cubs haven't had a game like that since 2003. Maybe game 1 of 2007 NLDS, the only of the 6 playoff games that was anywhere near close, but definitely not one of those back and forth games like this.
  9. JJ looked really good. Even hit a game winning jumper at the buzzer to win when the Bulls were trailing by 1. Awesome.
  10. Here are mine. I know a lot of people won't agree with them. I try not to let close losses cloud my judgement too much. For instance, I think the Ravens have an above average offense and very good defense even thought they've played like they have a very good offense and an average to above average D. However, the Ravens threw the ball way too often in their game against the Pats and because of that they were drawn into a close road game and eventually lost. I still think the Ravens are better than the Pats (albeit slightly) 1. Ravens 2. Patriots 3. Giants 4. Saints 5. Vikings 6. Colts 7. Eagles 8. 49ers 9. Steelers 10. Falcons 11. Broncos 12. Jets 13. Bears 14. Packers (internchangable with Bears, but homerism puts Bears ahead) 15. Bengals 16. Chargers 17. Texans 18. Jaguars 19. Cardinals 20. Cowboys 21. Dolphins 22. Titans 23. Panthers 24. Seahawks (healthy Hawks team is around 15-20) 25. Bills 26. Redskins 27-32. I honestly don't know how to rate these teams, they could all win between 0-4 games so they are all tied for last to me.
  11. ESPN's power rankings are up for this week. The Bears remain at 14, the lowest of the 3-1 teams and behind a couple of 2-1 teams (Atlanta, Philly) and a 2-2 team (GB). They started the season 11th, and then after their loss to the Packers they dropped 4 spots to 15. Then after their win over Pittsburgh they went up 1 to 14th and have stayed that way over their last 2 wins, albeit over mediocre teams. Strangely enough, the Vikings jumped 3 spots after a win against the Lions earlier in the year, despite a much smaller margin of victory.
  12. These are the only games I have any interest in following: 1. Cincinnati/Baltimore 2. Atlanta/San Francisco 3. New England/Denver and a very very slight interest in Houston/Arizona. Other then that, the rest of the games can go to hell.
  13. Oh yes I forgot your reward for finishing third place last year. Our reward for 2nd is Atlanta
  14. Not only that Flames but we both get to sit and watch Minnesota add to their division lead playing the hapless Rams. Thank God the Bears still get to play them. As good as the Vikings have been, after this week 3 of their games will have been against the Browns, Lions and Rams. The Bears still get the Browns, Rams and Lions one more time. The Packers still get the Lions (twice) and Browns.
  15. I am pretty sure Torre always does this. Back in NY I think Clemens was normally Torres guy.
  16. Thank you for pointing that out. All those people that are praising Roach (and he did do some nice things), have to realize we were getting absolutely killed on deep passes up the middle which most of the time is the MLB's responsibility in the Cover 2. In fact that was a big part of why they were able to move the ball so easily in the first half.
  17. Yeah the left side has been awful. The sad thing is there are no indications that Beekman might get a chance to take over for Frank O. And Pace.....boy if it wasn't for Bradley, Pace might be one of the biggest FA disappointments I've ever experienced. I expected a lot more from him. He did seem to have a quieter game today although there were still a decent amount of issues on the left side of the line.
  18. This will be a tough one. We need some revenge for last year. I say the Bears return the favor and come back late to win it. This time they don't leave enough time on the clock for a miraculous play. Bears 23 Falcons 20.
  19. Does anyone know how Chris Williams is doing so far? I don't hear his name a lot, so I guess that's a good thing, but I also don't hear any praise his way. I know he's still young and most OT need time to develop, but this guy was the 14th pick of the draft, and most people think of him as an afterthought. I'd expect because of his draft status people would constantly be talking about how he's doing, but I don't see it.
  20. It's so hard to predict a single baseball game. But I'm leaning towards the Twins because they've obviously been the hotter team, and they are playing in their home park which is so hard for some many teams to play in.
  21. So Rex Grossman was a game manager? He wasn't, he was a wild gunslinger who at times looked really good but the rest of the time was horrible and made a ton of mistakes. He did change a bit towards the end of his tenure here, and worked on limiting his mistakes. I honestly don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but Orton looked really really good to start last year and after his ankle injury looked like a completely different and awful QB. Check out his numbers broken down: Pre-injury: 7 games 143 completions 230 attempts 62.2% completion percentage 1,669 yards 238 yards per game 10 TD 4 INT 91.4 QB rating Post-injury 7 games 121 completions 221 attempts 54.8% completion percentage 1,195 yards 171 yards per game 8 TD 8 INT 67.2 QB rating I think the injury, and trying to come back too early on it caused him to play more tentatively, took a bit off of his throws, and made him worse. Of course we'll get to see this season, since he's starting out another season well (his QB rating for the year is around 91 after today). Maybe he's just a guy that fades as the season goes along. No way is Orton among the top half of QBs in this league, but I think he's towards the top of the next 15. Then again, I've been a Kyle Orton supporter since the day the Bears drafted him.
  22. Woah woah woah....I didn't mean to imply that Orton is even in the same stratosphere as Cutler. He's clearly not. I just think Broncos fans hate Cutler for the way he forced himself out of Denver, and Orton runs McDaniels system adequately. Orton is probably the model "game manager" for teams. A mediocre QB that plays conservative and doesn't make a ton of mistakes. The thing I love to see about Cutler is that he's been doing a great job since the GB game of playing to the game situation. The last 3 games he's opened things up when he needs to, has gone for a lot of short passes and check downs when needed, and has thrown in a long ball for good measure to keep the defense honest. I think Cutler can definitely be in the Manning/Brady level of QB play, but he has to prove he is consistent. Manning and Brady have stinkers like Cutler had every once in awhile which is fine, but they don't have up and down seasons like he did last year.
  23. Cheering for the Dodgers, but I'm gonna guess Cardinals take this in 4. Randy Wolf starting game 1? The Dodgers remind me of the Cubs last year. They have a lot of good starting pitching, but no dominant ace you can count on. The Cardinals unfortunately have 2. The Dodgers have a lot of good hitting, but with Manny not as strong as last year's Manny they don't have one hitter that you fear greatly. I guess you could argue Manny is that hitter now that I think about it, but I still don't think he strikes as much fear as he did last year.
  24. They don't seem to care right now...Orton has proven capable enough to run their offense it seems. I bet most would tell you they'd rather have Orton than Cutler. Cutler has been awesome the last 3 games, but he's had 3 game stretches of awesomeness in the past only to see a leveling off. I think Cutler is legit and what he shows is an improvement over last year, but the jury is still out a bit.
  25. What did they have to montage? I don't know they had one for 2006, and I can't remember one memorable moment after April of that year except sweeping the Cardinals in a 4 game series in July.
