  1. this is true, and they won the cup. Not that they will not be a contender next season, but this off season would have a different feel about it if the Hawks didnt win and they had to sell off some peaces to make the cap. Yes, probably while we all flipped out after game 3 and 4. This was our best shot for the next couple of years most likely.
  2. That's why I buy it. Lou's behavior of late makes me think he's stopped caring. I don't know this of course; its supposition on my part based on the circumstances. I briefly saw a minute or two of the Cubs game yesterday....has Lou stopped shaving? The guy is totally losing it.
  3. I know I'm just bitching about this because it's affecting my team, but it's kind of weird that an award that is voted on by just 11 people can have the ability to screw over a team as much as it will for us. I mean those 11 voters for the Conn Smythe had the ability to make a difference in how gutted our team will be next year. Now I doubt any of the voters probably even realized that when they voted, but still. Anyways, I'm not really seriously complaining about the process that much, if the Hawks didn't wnat that to bite them they shouldnt have put it in his rookie deal or they shouldn't have won the Cup.
  4. I mean it's good for us long term to face this head on. As long as we trust the org's scouting, being able to get rid a few of these guys for prospects/picks will only help us reload the team in the long run. And next year, guys like Beach should be able to give the Hawks a lot of what they are losing. I don't think it's crazy to suggest they can make a run next year. But we probably have less room for error than we did this year. I also worry whenever a young core achieves the highest goal so early in their careers in terms of a potential hangover effect.
  5. So is that saying that Toews bonus is already included in his cap hit?
  6. Well there goes the relief that we had for the cap going up next year. That really really hurts us. I think we were like 7 million over next years cap with only 13 players signed. Now we're like 8.3 million over, so we have to get rid of 8.3 million, in addition to clearing more space to fill up the team. That 1.3 million might be the difference between someone like Sharp or Buff or Versteeg being on next years team.
  7. You gotta be [expletive] me? How has no one thought of this/mentioned this before?
  8. After the Hawks landed at O'Hare around 4, they headed to Harry Carey's in Rosemont to celebrate with champaigne. Afterwards, a bunch of them headed to The Pony in Lakeview, which is like 5-6 blocks from my house and stayed there drinking jagerbombs until 7AM. Afterwards, Toews and his friends headed to Ann Sather near Belmont and Sheffield, aka steps from the Brown Line trainstop I was at to take the train to work today and ate breakfast until 10AM
  9. he should be absolutely ecstatic that the flyers got to game 6 of the cup finals, that team was left for dead so many times this year and in the post-season. all for nothing? that's pretty disrespectful to say, i understand emotions are running hot right after a loss in the finals, but the flyers outperformed all expectations and went farther than any one could have imagined them going at the beginning of the playoffs. [expletive] you, timmonen. Yeah but when you get that far in a postseason you believe you are going to win. You don't think you can win, or think you will win, you believe that you are going to win until it's not possible anymore. I don't think anyone on the Flyers expected to lose in Philly. You need confidence and a strong will to be a championship contending team and this flyers team oozed confidence.
  10. My favorite part of that radio call is hearing people in the background going crazy yelling in celebration.
  11. Nice recap, but you forgot to mention 2008-2009: NHL All Star. I think that's a worthy enough achievement to list.
  12. More total stanley cups, and for everyone besides Boston, more recent cups.
  13. I heard on the score that Kane brought his infamous cousin on the ice and when an media guy tried to interview him Kane was like "THIS IS MY FAMOUS COUSIN!!" and the report goes "are you 2 going to share a cab tonight". Right after that Kane starts skating away and the reporter was asking him why he's leaving, and Kane replies "no more questions after that"
  14. Why must people throw beer, why, why? Why not? The Hawks just won a championship! The players douse each other with booze why not the fans?
  15. It didn't look to be bothering him when he lifted the Cup over his head! Ballsy Ladd...I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple different injuries revealed in the coming days.
  16. All I can say right now is: I am so happy. Great finish. I'm just happy its over. What an amazing celebration in Chicago tonight. Ahhh I waited 12 years for another championship. Wow. This is awesome.
  17. Praying to God that 3:59 doesn't = 5 outs.
  18. Pass. blackhawk fans already have a thread Truffle.....win or lose I wanted to tell you that you have a fantastic likable team (but you already knew that). One that, even though I am spouting confidence about winning in the BH thread, I am deathly scared of losing to the next 2 games. You should feel fortunate that your team is likely built to win for awhile. Maybe you'll have a stanley cup to show for it this season, maybe not. But bottom line is, your team is awesome and will be awesome for some time. Figured I'd write that now, because I couldnt stomach sharing that with you after a potential game 7 loss.
  19. I'm still wondering why everyone is allergic to KU in this. Money. There aren't enough people in Kansas to dramatically shift profits, and their football team isn't exactly rich in tradition. Neither are Mizzou, Oklahoma State, or Texas Tech. KU at least gets TV sets with their basketball team. Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas all have bigger populations. It's not about people in Montana watching because Kansas is playing, the BTN gets money based on the population of the state where the school is. The history is Nebraska's saving grace. I was gonna say. Kansas has 1 million more people in its state than Nebraska (2.8 M to 1.8 M). The difference is Nebraska football is rich and full of tradition, while its basketball team is not, and for Kansas its reversed. Football outweighs basketball big time in the discussion so Nebraska has merit, and Kansas does not.
  20. Maryland in the Big 10 just feels weird.
  21. Besides, I'll be at a bar watching the game so most likely I won't be home during my customary 30 minute "freak out" period to post musings on NSBB. The only way I would is if we were getting blown out and clearly losing. At that point I'll probably be home before the game is over.
  22. Let's hope we don't find out. But I said all series long that I was worried because I hadn't seen a dominant performance out of the Hawks in the series and I was worried that the Hawks just weren't good enough to overwhelm this team. I was worried that they matched up with us too well and could neutralize our strengths. I was worried the Hawks werent getting to any rebounds in the flyers zone for putbacks. I was worried that the Flyers were getting their own guys centered in front of the net too frequently and we weren't getting physical enough with them. But I saw that performance in game 5. Like I said, I probably won't be posting here saying "don't worry guys I guarantee you we win game 7!!! Go Hawks!!" but I might say stuff like "the defense had a difficult time clearing the puck again tonight. We're gonna need a better performance in game 7 if we want to skate the cup around the UC"
  23. I should have specified, I meant the civil trial (actually I took many of those facts off a website because my brain wasn't working well this morning, and thats what it said on the site...they must have also meant the civil trial)
  24. Yeah...and I wasn't really arguing about the validity of the advantage...I just didn't know about the rule. I know you weren't arguing that, I just felt compelled to see how much of an advantage it really was.
