  1. Today's Conn Smythe watch from the Puck Daddy Blog:
  2. I think you might be misremembering. There's no way you had championship hopes in 2000 or 2001. Nobody even thought 2003 was going to be special until June. I would bet the only seasons people went into with legit championship hopes were 2004, 2008 and 2009. That's why I said just about. I felt good going into 2003. I didn't think we'd make the playoffs, but I wouldnt have been shocked if we were competing come September. I felt like things were improving with Prior, Choi, Hill, Zambrano, Cruz, etc. You said just about every season in the decade, presumably that means 8 or 9 seasons. I don't see how it is possible that you had championship hopes in 8 or 9 seasons of the 2000s. I had playoff or championship hopes. 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009. 8 seasons I went into the season thinking we had a shot at the playoffs.
  3. Kirkwoods is my favorite beer garden with pretty decent flatscreens. I've watched Bears games there in the early fall. Justins is another beergarden with TVs, but the TVs are not that great there. They are small and all situated at the actual bar and not really easy to see from most of the outdoor seats. There's also a ton in just the immediate Wrigleyville area. Murphy's for one has a huge semi-outdoor area, also that place right next to the Cubby Bear has a big outdoor section. With the weather the wya it is, many of those bars have huge windows that slide open and make it feel like your outside even though you're still inside.
  4. It's nice to be able to play against mediocre teams all playoffs long. Just like it will be nice for the Blackhawks (hopefully) to face a mediocre team in the Finals.
  5. I feel like you are giving impressions on seasons looking back right now, and not how you felt during the seasons. 2001 was all kinds of awesome as it was happening. I doubted all spring, and when July came and they were still in first, I started to get excited and started ignoring some obvious signs that things would go south. I had a lot of fun...any time the Cubs are in first place in July, it's fun. 2004 was a lot of fun. Yes it was also annoying, and the actions of the team left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, but we were still competing for a playoff spot every day until the end. We were relevant, and everyone had the idea that if we could only slip into a playoff spot, our pitching will give us a shot. Misguided or not, that was the prevailing thought at the time. If we had won a couple more games during that last week of the season, people could have remembered that season a lot differently. 2005 and 2006 were two of the most miserable years I've ever experienced as a sports fan. 2005 was just a steady run of mediocrity. When Neifi Perez and Glendon Rusch are the 2 things I remember most about that team, that's not good. But what really put a dark cloud over those years were the White Sox and Cardinals winning the WS while we couldn't get out of our own way.

  7. lol wow... http://blogs.vocalo.org/aomar/2010/05/sorry-chicago-fans-you-don%E2%80%99t-deserve-the-cup/23237
  8. Like I said before, the first period of game 3 is going to show a lot about how the rest of the series will go. You would assume that if the Sharks had it in them to play a ton better, they will show it on Friday because obviously their season is on the line essentially. They probably have to win both the games in Chicago, but if they only win one its still possible they come back. But after watching the Hawks execute their game plan in the last 2 periods pretty flawlessly, I can't see a way the Sharks win this series if the Hawks play the way they did.
  9. Coming into the playoffs, I was just hoping Niemi could keep us in games. I never expected him to be a huge part of victories.
  10. It's going beyond the hardcore fans, but I don't think it's captivated the city by any means yet. If you just judge it by the tv ratings the Hawks are getting, we will get there. If we get to the Cup finals, I think the majority of Chicagoans will be on board. Won't be as big as when the Bears got to the final game, but still significant. Oh yeah, I know the Hawks' place in the city. I just hope folks get on board and hopefully the Hawks can make some new fans. I was listening to the score on Sunday and most of the talk was about the Hawks. Last time I lived up there (during the dark ages) the Hawks were NEVER discussed on sports radio. I mean literally never, except to give the scores in the updates. Yeah back in the day on Mac, Jurko and Harry, they used to get in trouble if they discussed the Hawks on the air. And when they did, people would call in and tell them to stop. Also, it was only what 2 years ago that the Hawks had to pay the score to broadcast their games on the radio.
  11. See I don't mind losing game 5, so we can clinch the series at Wrigley Field in front of our fans.
  12. I just realized the Hawks got outshot again tonight and still won. But I think part of that was the gameplan coming in and also the gameplan with a 2+ goal lead.

  14. I hear ya. With the 03 Cubs, I obviously felt like we'd finish off the Marlins, and thought we could beat the Yankees or Red Sox, but I thought it was probably a 50/50 chance of doing so. Same with the Bears. I thought it was possible we could beat the Colts, but I didn't expect it. I don't really know how to handle this, it seems too good to be true. I've been dealing with the struggle for so long, it's weird to have the finish line just standing there waiting for the Hawks to cross it. I need to stay level headed though, and tell myself there will still be challenges ahead. Other than the Bulls, the only other championship team I've followed is the 1997 Michigan Wolverines, and that was split and very anticlimatic. I'm in pretty uncharted waters here.
  15. No but I will say I was nodding my head to every one of your posts. You aren't eating crow alone.
  16. Wow, I cannot believe we took both games in SJ. Now if we can at least get a split in Chicago, we head back to SJ with a commanding 3-1 lead.
  17. At least they are smarter than the Canucks and are engaging in this play when the game is decided. The downside is that they are getting killed anyways.
  18. However the Sharks come out in the 1st period of game 3 will decide the rest of the series. If they find a way to just bowl us over and take a multiple goal lead, we still have a series. If it's even play or favored towards the Hawks we're looking at a short series.
  19. C'mon guys, let's not get too pretty.
  20. Just keep doing what you've been doing for another 3:30 and we'll be fine
  21. Sphincter tightens up again.
  22. The Puck Daddy blog has Toews 2nd right now behind Cammalleri with Pavelski and Halak right behind him halak has played himself out of that talk in these first 2 games of the ECF, imo For sure, IIRC Halak was like 2nd or 3rd before game 1. Those projections were posted just after the game 1's
  23. They took the goal from Hammer and gave it to Brouwer.
  24. What the hell?? I thought Thornton was supposed to be a good person.
