  1. this offense is dogsh!t I know they've had some small peaks during the stretch but overall a .638 OPS as a team over their last 45 games. Offense is down this year but league average is still .700. Though as bad as that's been, there are still 2 teams worth a worse OPS for the season, the Marlins (.632) and White Sox (.630)
  2. Shocker something doesnt go our way. Thus ends our stretch of 1 consecutive things going our way.
  3. Looked safe but not convincing enough to overturn. We'll see
  4. Love how that's going to count as a hit for the Cubs with RISP even though it didn't score a run.
  5. Nothing better than watching the Cubs lose on an obscure streaming broadcast channel that keeps freezing and disconnecting with Chip Caray doing PBP.
  6. Pages' HR seems to have broken statcast. It doesn't have an exit velo or distance, it just says the xBA was .080
  7. I didn’t watch today so going through baseball savant to see what I missed. The 4 hardest hit balls of the day were all by the Cubs and those 4 batted balls produced 5 outs 1. Morel - 109.2, .450 xBA, groundout 2. Suzuki - 106.8, .890 xBA, lineout 3. Hoerner, 103.5, .530 xBA, groundout 4. Tauchman, 103.5, .420 xBA, GIDP Actually the Cubs had the 6 hardest hit balls, luckily 5 and 6 were both singles. But as ****** as the Cubs have played, it seems like they’re also getting super unlucky. edit: that said Happ’s HR would have only been out in 2 other parks so I guess some luck there.
  8. Didn’t hold up though. Would have been hilarious if Italy went down
  9. Dammit Happ you ruined my “the Cubs have been literally completely incapable of taking a lead of larger than 2 runs for a month” stat. oh, umm I mean go Cubs yay
  10. Starting pitching has done its job again and then some. But here we are in the exact same situation we are in every game, bullpen has to get outs with no margin for error otherwise we lose because we can't horsefeathers hit.
  11. Holy heck, I honestly haven’t been paying close attention in terms of who is pitching for the opponents the last few days because I’ve been trying to avoid watching them. Yesterday’s starter had a 5.13 ERA this year coming into the game. Today’s starter is a 12 year veteran with a 4.51 career ERA. They combined for 14 innings, 5 hits and 0 ER.
  12. All season even when things were bad we could say "at least we aren't digging as big of a hole as last year". Well the 2024 Cubs have a 33-37 record after 70 games, matching the 2023 Cubs. Lovely.
  13. About 2/3rds of their active payroll is going to 6 players: Dansby Bellinger Happ Seiya Taillon Hendricks They've combined for 3.6 fWAR this year. Though in terms of how they rank on the team they are 5th (Swanson), 3rd (Bellinger), 7th (Happ), 6th (Seiya), 5th for pitchers (Taillon) and...23rd (Hendricks).
  14. My post was dripping in sarcasm, its actually the opposite. The Cubs are supposedly a large market team playing in a division with minnows and cant do anything about it. The rest of baseball should be complaining how unfair it is for the Cubs to play in a division with a bunch of small market teams but they have no reason to.
  15. Wait we don't really do that either. Basically all we do is get good starting pitching and let the offense and bullpen battle it out for who wants to be the primary reason for losing a given game.
  16. Plus you have to be like good at situational hitting to be successful there. Not like, you know, getting thrown out at home 293284538 times on a "go on contact" play. And probably need to have a good bullpen because margins of games are going to more likely be closer. Also have a team that plays good fundamental baseball with defense and baserunning. The Cubs have none of the components needed to be a good small ball team outside of solid SP and Pete Crow Armstrong.
  17. Yeah but I mean its hard to beat all the big market teams in this division. There's a reason we haven't won a division title in a full season since 2017 - just too many big market teams throwing their resources around.
  18. Cubs have played at a 59 win pace for the last 27% of the season (16-28) Cubs have played at a 50 win pace for the last 18% of the season (9-20) Cubs have played at a 41 win pace for the last 5% of the season (2-6)
  19. At least we don't have to worry about that Wisdom flyout being the difference since the Cardinals were gonna dink and dunk their way to 2 more runs regardless.
  20. 0-3 against St. Louis 2-5 against Cincinnati 3-4 against Pittsburgh 3-4 against Milwaukee 8-16 against the NL Central
  21. I'm sure Nico will tie it up here. Seems due
  22. So I just entered this prompt into ChatGPT: "create a realistic scenario for the most frustrating and most annoying way for a Chicago Cubs baseball season to unfold. Break it down by segments of the season and specific things that happen that seem designed to anger and frustrate the fanbase of the Cubs." Here is what it spit out for April - June: I mean its not identical but its pretty on point with how the season has gone lmao.
  23. horsefeathers no we don't. Jed and Tom deserve this pain, but Jed is probably still buzzing at how fiscally responsible this team was built and Tom is asking his underlings how much the sportsbook made so far today.
