    Since the Mexico game and NBA draft are over, I decided to flip to this game for the first time tonight and immediately see Morel get picked off on a back pick from the catcher and immediately flipped to another channel. Yeah no thanks I’m good

    The only thing more shocking than this result is the fact that the game has not been stopped for slurs

    Wow Mexico choked on an 87th minute PK that would have tied the game.

    Rough for Ukraine.... all 4 teams in Group E finish with 4 points, and there will surely be at least 1-2 teams that advance with less than 4 points, but they won't because they finished 4th in the group due to GD.

    Cubs now 13-26 in their last 39 games with a -43 RD, playing at a 54-108 pace for roughly 24% of the season. Stretching it out further, 20-34 in their last 54 games, a 60-102 pace for exactly 33% of the season.

    This season is basically last year if we didn’t randomly start playing at a 103 win pace for 2.5 months

    Dude don’t watch this team unless you’re bored or it’s on in the background when doing something else. Certainly don’t sacrifice anything in your life to watch them.

    I have no idea how the stats people keep posting about the bullpen show them only being slightly below average or whatever. I know they stabilized for a bit there outside of some very bad late inning collapses but man this pen is so so bad, even worse with the injuries

    The Cubs are worse than even the most negative of us expected before the season started. Pretty impressive. assuming they don’t come back (and who an expect them to score a single run?), their season pace will be 75-87

    Usually when someone has a long AB with a lot of balls fouled off they don’t end the AB by grounding into a double play but Cubs gonna Cubs

    Didn’t Jed say something about wanting to get more contact into the lineup and that the last core was too strikeout prone when he kicked off the rebuild. I mean retool.

    Canada needed that goal badly, especially after getting 30+ minutes of 11v10. Might actually advance now.

    Wouldn’t France win the group with 7 points vs 6 for Austria? either way good stuff though would be a little more exciting if France and Netherlands hadn’t already clinched advancement (though obviously placement plays a big part in your path to win the tournament)

    I know it says that the main focus is still Chicago but I believe either: 1) AH has always been the plan and Chicago was leverage or 2) even if Chicago is the preferred option, AH is still the most likely option.

    I thought for a second this was an actual trade that happened. I was a little nervous...Nico hasn't had a great year but in general he's been very valuable and someone I'd prefer to keep for the time being.

    At this point I'm not even sure if it matters who we'd align with in the QFs. Brazil hasn't looked to be in good form this summer and Colombia has been an absolute monster. I know Brazil is still Brazil, just saying I'm not sure if the margin is big enough for me to care who we match up again if we advance to the knockouts.

    Not sure why you’d defend him. Alzolay was a major part of why we blew so many games early, Almonte was a tough loss a few weeks ago but also was only just starting to prove to be a decent reliever and had his struggles. Merryweather is the only one that has been significantly damaging to the Cubs for a long period of time.

    I say that every day and then they hook me. Check the score and it’s the 6th and they’re up 4 runs. Ok fun let’s wind down my night by watching the last couple innings. They can’t surely blow every game they play right? It’s definitely a shame on me situation. That said I’ve emotionally distanced myself from the team a few weeks ago, these finishes are more amusing than anything.

    Steele has started 11 games, has a 3.08 ERA and has 0 wins 6/24 - left with a 4-2 lead in the 8th, lost 5-4 6/18 - left with a 2-2 tie in the 7th, won 5-2 6/13 - left with a 2-0 lead in the 7th, Leiter blew up and lost 3-2 6/8 - left down 3-1 with the difference being Amaya unable to hold on to a strikeout that would have ended the inning, and the next batter doubled home 2 runs, lost 3-2 6/1 - left tied 5-5, with 3 runs scoring on a horrific error by Suzuki that would have ended the inning 5/27 - left in 8th tied 0-0, Leiter and Wesneski gave up 5 runs in the next inning. Lost 5-1 5/22 - left in 7th down 3-1, Cuas let all of Steele’s inherited runners score and the inning ended down 8-1 5/16 - left down 5-3, Cubs lost 5-4 5/11 - left down 6-1. Cubs scored 7 runs to take 8-6 lead but then immediately blew it and lost 10-9. there were 2 more but I lost interest in documenting the rest
