  1. So with the Allen trade, whichi I believe is a $23.1m cap hit, where do the Bears stand with regards to the cap? Just curious if the Bears are still in a position to make any notable moves. Definitely still some interesting players out there but not sure how aggressive we'll be at this point.
  2. I can't believe after 17 years he comes back to Chicago and within seconds gets asked about steroids. But I can't believe even more that he wasn't prepared to be asked about steroids.
  3. I've been thinking about whether this makes sense or not but I think that while they can fill their needs with 4 draft picks, its also about Poles' stated preference to build through the draft. Draft picks are cheap and give you the best chance of developing star players without paying for them in FA or trading for them. A draft class with 4 players may fill all the holes for next year but it's also less young cheap players on the roster for the next few years. And if you miss on 1-2 of those 4 draft picks it might slow our progress. Of course all 4 of the picks are in the first 4 rounds with 2 in the top 10 so less likely to have busts. A large number of 5-7 round picks get cut or don't stay beyond their first contract anyways so maybe its not a big deal.
  4. Cross Philly off the list of potential Fields destinations, they just traded for Pickett. But maybe add Pittsburgh to the list?
  5. Thank God. I know everyone hates him and I don’t blame them. I think he clearly has issues that he needs to deal with but also believe deep down he’s a good guy. Just not the coach for Michigan. Very interested to see how much stature the Michigan job has right now. Not too far removed from perennial Big Ten powerhouse but also glaring issues with admissions and NIL in this new era of college basketball. Given how Michigan is probably going to need about 10 new players this offseason (virtually every meaningful player is graduating or rumored to be entering the portal and only one commit of note who will probably decommit now), it’s not going to be a 1 year rebuild. Maybe 2 years with the right person.
  6. That's fine, it worked out swimmingly for both teams. Just not as much for the Panthers
  7. Yeah they don't have a lot of holes but I think the holes they have are a bit rough QB - If they pick Caleb, they're fine here. Would like better backups than Bagent and Rypien but doubt we'll invest more there RB - Swift, Roshon, Herbert - Fine here FB - Fine here with Blasingame TE - Could probably use a couple blocking TE, should get at least 1 OT - Depth needed OG - Depth needed C - Not against a draft pick here but should be fine here now I think? WR - list is Moore, Allen, Scott, Velus, Webster. Think we need at least 1 more guy either through the draft or a veteran FA. There's just no depth there DE - Need to improve here, not just depth DT - Need to improve here also LB - Don't need much here CB - Can always use more DB but for the most part I think we're in good shape S - Depth addition would be helpful ST - Mostly fine though I would definitely bring in competition for Gill
  8. It doesn't say much other than how different that is to the previous 2 times we attempted to develop a QB. Trubisky rookie year: RB: Jordan Howard WR1: Kendall Wright WR2: Josh Bellamy TE1: Zach Miller TE2: Dion Simms? Fields rookie year: RB: David Montgomery WR1: Allen Robinson WR2: Darnell Mooney TE1: Cole Kmet TE2: Jimmy Graham The Fields rookie year guys seem ok but Mooney and Kmet were rookies and Allen Robinson half assed it the second half of the season.
  9. Why do you say that? The teams that would trade up for Caleb are still very much in position. Just today Washington traded Sam Howell for a 3rd Round pick. They now have 6 picks in the top 100 of this draft. If Poles was looking to trade down, the Commanders would be perfectly positioned to give the Bears high picks in this draft. Of course they could also be stockpiling top 100 picks to build out their roster for Daniels/Maye. Just saying, if Caleb is available I don’t think they’ll have trouble getting a sizable offer.
  10. Yeah I’m reading now that he was trying to get an extension done with the chargers. I assume the Bears traded for him knowing that. Just please don’t horsefeathers this up Bears
  11. Mike Williams makes Keenan Allen look like Lou Gehrig when it comes to durability I suppose. Also re: my point above maybe having 1 year left on his deal is seen as a positive not a downside for Poles.
  12. Feeding into my paranoia about Caleb/Fields, a 32 year old WR on a 1 year contract is a very win now move. Would he be making win now moves for a rookie QB, even one as hyped as Caleb? (I know, would you be making win now moves if you had a ****** passing QB is also a valid question but this is under the assumption that Poles believes Fields is the guy) I dunno guy wants to build through the draft, now has just 4 picks. Trades for a guy whose contract comes off the books right when a potential large extension is due. Please stop me if I’m being insufferable about this, I’m just really paranoid about making a franchise altering poor decision.
  13. Possible....just have a hard time seeing the guy who said he wants to build through the draft going into one with just 4 picks (even if 2 of them are in the top 10). Of course there's other ways to get later round picks so we'll see what he does. I read somewhere the Bears will get a comp pick for Mooney signing with the Falcons. Does that come in this year's draft or next years? A 4th rounder right?
  14. Me too...maybe they don't feel great about him falling to 9. Or maybe they like the edge rushers later in the 1st round and are ok with trading down and making this trade to get their WR. Allen is 32 and under contract for 1 more season with an 18m cap hit so this is definitely more of a shorter term move. Don't want to seem like I'm against the move, I love Keenan Allen! Just trying to evaluate the deal in my head and how it affects things moving forward.
  15. Light cost, but Allen is often injured so I'm guessing thats why his value is so low. But obviously an incredible receiver when healthy. Exciting addition! The Bears now have 4 picks in the draft. I don't think that will stand....either they are keeping Fields and trading 1.1 or they are trading down with the 9th pick.
  16. lmao this is the guy who got into a fight with Juwan Howard this year. Was credited as a big reason Michigan was able to develop so many NBA players over the last 10+ years. Juwan and Warde drove him out of the program and he went to the Illini. You’re welcome
  17. I hope he does elevate those around him. I still don't like a team going into year 3 of a rebuild having 1 reliable WR on the roster, hoping another blue chipper falls to them at 9 and then a bunch of afterthoughts. Tyler Scott is fine but are you ok with him being WR2 and Velus WR3 if Moore or Nabors/Rome gets injured? We don't necessarily go into every season with glaring holes. All that said I'm still convinced we'll sign 1-2 WR in FA, Poles is likely just waiting for some value deals because that's how he operates.
  18. Curtis Samuel signing with the Bills. Even if the Bears do get one of the guys at 1.09, we can't go into the season with a WR room of: DJ Moore Nabors/Rome Tyler Scott Velus Jones Jr Nsimba Webster There are still options out there in FA but I'd feel a lot better when we sign one...
  19. Point taken but at this point the first scenario is so incredibly far fetched that its not worth talking about. Also I could see the Caleb camp being disgruntled about not starting right away. I mean tough horsefeathers but would also prefer not to destroy the relationship between the team and player right away. Of course that's just speculation and we don't know how he'd really handle being benched for his rookie year.
  20. Seems more and more likely Fields will be a Bear next year either with Caleb or without him
  21. I'd argue Neris is a somewhat notable signing too. But yeah surprisingly quiet offseason for a team that missed the playoffs by 1 game with some notable holes and lost one of their top 2 starters. Obviously they hope the change in manager plus all the young talent making contributions will provide significant benefit too,
  22. Yes definitely look into that, but also definitely don't look into any other signings that were made minutes into FA
  23. 2 weeks from today we start doing this thing for real
  24. In other coaching news, rumors are Chris Holtmann is likely to become the DePaul coach. I know that might be the highest profile hire DePaul can get but funny to hire a coach who was fired midseason only to see his former team immediately go 6-1 and put themselves on the bubble.
  25. Maybe only being slightly worried is the irrational part lol. You could easily build a case that by Poles' decisions this week that he's planning to keep Fields and trade the pick -Cap space left on the table (for a QB extension?) -Gaping holes left on the roster despite only have 5 draft picks (trade 1.01 for picks?) -No Fields trade and not many whispers as pretty much all starter roles are filled and now many of the backup roles are filled Ahhh, trying not to think about it too much. It would be the most Bears thing ever to do this.
