I like Brewer as well. I would have really liked to have had at least 1 starter have a proven track record of hitting 3 pointers. Deng can sometimes hit them at maybe a 30% clip. I think Brewer is a career 28-29% 3 point shooter. And Rose claims he can hit 3's but who knows for sure, and plus ideally he is the person who is supposed to benefit from having a long range shooter in the lineup, not the person shooting the 3's. Having Korver will help, but he's probably playing 20 minutes a game tops, and there will be times because of game situation and his lack of defensive abilities that we cannot have him in the game.

He turns 33 soon, and will be 35 before his contract is up. I wouldn't be upset if they traded him, and I hope they do it before 2012. I'd want a really good return this year for him since he's really cheap again next year, but I'd try hard to trade him at next year's deadline. I honestly don't see the appeal of keeping Byrd. He's been decent for us this year, and I guess inexpensive, but like jersey said he's 33. That's why he's cheap. He's not getting any better, and at best he's only moderately above average hitter. Doesn't walk/get on base enough, is ok in the field but not great. You could do a lot better in CF IMO. You could also do a lot worse, so I don't mind keeping him if the right deal comes along. I'm not saying dump him just to dump him. It's not like him being signed would keep us from acquiring another much better CF if one came around. He'd be a great 4th OF.

I agree that we have a solid roster as you put it together. The problem, and it's unavoidable, is depth. There ain't none. So if we have a charmed season without injuries, everything will be fine. But if we have a Detroit-like season, this team could miss the playoffs. Yeah but if most teams had the injuries Detroit had last season, they miss the playoffs. They had a crapload of talent out with injuries. It would be like if Kane (Zetterberg), Hossa (Holmstrom), Sharp (Franzen), Campbell (Kronwall), and Bolland (Cleary) all missed at least 20 games in the season, and at one point several of them at the same time. I'm not worried about the worst case scenario because most teams aren't going to survive that. Plus, I don't know if I'm correct in this line of thinking so correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like we have a lot of unproven talent in both the backend of our roster and in Rockford. The talent isn't necessarily high potential talent, maybe medium potential. So I feel like if some of the guys on the bottom 2 lines fail, we should be able to find a reasonably effective pairing by mixing and matching throughout the season. That said, due to those depth issues, as well as possible championship hangover, I'm not going into the season expecting to be good enough to beat any team on any night like I felt last year. But I think the potential is there, with a little luck on our side, to be a top team in the conference.

Agreed...Morrow over Redick was a no brainer to begin with. Ironic that supposedly the Bulls went after Redick because they thought he was more likely not to be matched. Bad judgement there as Morrow is a Net and Redick all but returning back to Orlando. Also, I would have died to have Raja Bell on this team. He signed for 3 years 10 mil from Utah, but the Bulls were offering 2 years 8 mil and wouldnt goto a 3rd year. I know he's 33, but I can live with a 3 year deal to improve the team as much as he would have.

Thank God they pulled him, it was starting to feel like that Rockies game in 2007 that he blew an 8-3 lead in.

I got 2 buddies from Boston coming up for that Pats game...the pressure is on. Based on previous experience, as long as you are at the computer exactly when they go on sale, you should get tickets to 1 game. But by the time you purchase the one game, everything else is nearly sold out except for the expensive seats.

They have a 7th from the Rams for Kevin Payne though. Well worth the risk, IMO. Plus 7th round picks are mostly worthless.

With any other GM I'd feel confident in getting value for Lilly, but I'm prepared for something like an Omar Infante + PTBNL. Not a big Hendry fan here but I do not think that is fair or accurate. I think Hedry normally does fine making trades, but the last time he was in this situation they traded Maddux for Izturis, so there may be some cause for concern. Hendry then made some sort of weird comment after the trade about not wanting prospects or something (I don't remember exactly). lol...we were all mad because we thought with could get Andre Ethier in that trade. What a boon that would have been for us.

Just reading that on RealGM. He said that he even surpassed his own expectations regarding his 3 point shot. Rose is typically not the type of person to overstate his abilities.

Regarding the DVD, it looks like there will be 3 different types of DVD released. -Regular DVD (24.95) -Blu Ray DVD (34.95) -Special Edition Regular DVD (39.99) On Amazon, they don't have any info on the special edition DVD, other then that it will be FOUR discs. The other products are just 1 DVD, so expect a significant increase in the content with the SE. Unfortunately, I don't see a blu ray of that, making a predicament. ALSO, right now, Amazon has a sale on all 3 types. They are all $10 off....who knows for how long. Good time to buy right now and have shipped to you on the 20th.

I hope he would. I don't think he's coming back next year regardless, so it would be stupid to stay on this sinking ship when he can get traded to a contender and actually enjoy himself.

I'd still chance it. While 2010 is a bust, 2011 actually doesn't have to be, and I think moving Byrd would mean they'd hang on to Fukudome. I think moving Fukudome (in the right deal) would be more beneficial to the team both right now and in the long run. Like I said, if someone is calling up the Cubs with an amazing offer for Byrd there's no reason for them to not take it. I guess I'm just not a huge fan of Byrd. He had a nice first half, but he's not someone I have to keep if I want to contend in 2011. I guess he is starter quality and not making a ton, but if I'm Hendry, everyone on the team is available right now.

I would even call Rose's defense less than average last year, instead of just bad. Man to man I would say he was actually decent. He still got burned by guards who had a quick first step because he hesitates, but he can stay in front of most everyone else.

Because they don't have anyone to fill the position? If someone is offering a great offer now, fine, but the Cubs could easily sell high with him later. Soriano-Fukudome-Colvin? Brett Jackson might be called up by September 1st as the thread on NSBB speculates.

I don't get it. I think because he missed that catch in LF late in the game. Bounced off his glove. I'm not sure the Cardinals signed him for his defense though. That said, Holliday has what is starting to be a disturbing history of botched defensive plays in big games, starting with his botched fly ball in the one game playoff between San Diego and Colorado, followed by the groin shot in last years playoffs and now that catch, which obviously was nowhere as big, and the game was not even close as a playoff game in terms of importance.

Since this has been rebumped, a week from today (it's still Tuesday technically), the Blackhawks Stanley Cup DVD comes out. I am going to Best Buy ASAP to buy the blu ray version.

NL is 1-12-1 in their last 14 All Star games lol. I remember watching that 1996 game too. I think Fred McGriff had a late HR to win it. Edit: No wait, I believe Mike Piazza hit an early home run and ended up with MVP. McGriff's HR must have been 1994. Wow can't believe I remember that so well.

Byrd might have had consideration for MVP if not for Mccann's hit.
