I wonder of the mcnabb benching really pissed him off and all but gave up on the Skins and it took this much money to change his mind and make him feel like the team is committed to him. And the Redskins justified it because they have no options to bring in if McNabb bolts and the Redskins seem to have an endless supply of money so why the he'll not. It's probably not even the most ridiculous signing in the Snyder era. And I'm not saying that to downplay how insane this deal is. If the Bears did this I would have taken the rest of the day off work and cried all afternoon.

Is that not because they are by far the smallest school, and therefore have the smallest group of alumni by default? With just over 8,000 undergrads, it's mostly that. However, Northwestern is a far more national school than any of the other Big Ten schools. Only 40% of undergrads are from the midwest. I don't see how that makes them more of a national school. It's a huge difference. I just looked up Michigan's undergraduate student body for comparison. 66% come from Michigan alone. 40% from the midwest is a really small number. Since most students move back home after graduation, it creates a much higher percentage of Northwestern graduates who are spread out across the country. Do most students move back home after graduation? Even if they do, the one's that don't by and large move to Chicago. We are the capital of the Big Ten, even though there are technically no Big Ten schools in city limits. That's why I think it's funny that there's a big banner in front of Wrigley Field that says "Chicago's Big Ten team" when it's less than a block away from Purdue, Michigan State, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio St and Iowa bars (2 blocks from a Minnesota bar).

That sucks about Korver. Hope its not bad. Bulls are #12 in ESPN.com's power rankings. Ahead of the 5-3 Bulls are the 6-5 Blazers (#11), the 5-4 Nuggets who the Bulls beat last week (#9), the 5-4 Suns (#8) and the 6-4 Heat (#7). In Hollingers rankings, the Bulls drop from 7th to 9th, with the Bucks a spot ahead of them, but I think that's due to Milwaukees better SOS and the Bulls poor Home/Road ratio of 6/2.

My favorite part. That article is hilarious. I would mind it very much. But there's no reason why you can't make an "incidental PI" a 5-10 yard penalty plus redo the down while keeping blatant PI as a spot foul. I like this idea very much. I don't mind giving the refs the discretion to choose incidental vs. intentional.

I thought I read or heard him say one of three worst teams at one point. He's used words like terrible on numerous occasions. I've been hard on them because it's obvious they have the potential to be a 10-12 win team but they blew multiple opportunities with stupidity. I think they were a 6 win team if things went poorly, with the potential for many more. They have weaknesses but Cutler and the defense can make them contenders. Yeah the problem is that when someone like him hasn't taken a close look at a team and wants to make judgements on 32 different teams, he (and most of the media) uses generalizations combined with their performance the last few years. Oh also, if the team doesn't have many dominant skill position players, its that much harder to gain respect in the media. It seems Bill has done that too. They were pretty awful the last 12 games of last year, and despite their FA spending, they didn't improve the O-line and their WRs were still all unknowns besides Hester. And the biggest thing is the general media impression is that Cutler is talented but they've already decided that he'll be the wild 25TD-25 INT Cutler until he gets better receivers (or for some he will never grow out of it). So when it's time to Simmons to rank the Bears, he sees wins over below average Detroit, Dallas and Carolina teams, and bad losses to mediocre Seattle and Washington teams and assumes that the Bears had a few lucky games to start the year and now they are terrible. This is why I think its stupid for anyone to do these power rankings each week, although they are somewhat interesting to read. There are very few people out there, if any, that are in tune with all 32 NFL teams.

Yay we jumped all the way to 14th in Peter King's fine 15. Only 3 teams with worse records (Oakland at 5-4, Philly at 5-3 and San Diego at 4-5) are ahead of us. And we even have a team with the same record as ours below us (Tampa Bay). He did also mention that if Hester is receiving and returning like he did yesterday the Bears could be in line for multiple playoff wins. I'm really hoping to see what Simmons says about the Bears this week. I'm not trying to overrate the win because I think its extremely reasonable to still hesitate calling the Bears contenders. Heck I still do. But Simmons began the season calling them a 3 win team, and then started calling them dangerous when we started 3-0, and then called us one of the bottom 5 teams in the league when we lost 3 of 4. Now we've won 2 in a row and are sitting at 6-3. Still one of the worst 5 teams in the league Bill? Or have you gone 180 on the Bears yet again?

Did they ever rule either way on the starcaps thing or did the NFL just decide to ignore it and pretend nothing ever happened?

Knock on wood but the Bears are almost too healthy for this time of year. I don't know how many nagging undiscolsed injuries they have but it definitely plays into our favor with a short week. I feel pretty good about this one. But then again the Bears usually do the opposite or what I think they are gonna do so many I should continue hyping up Thigpen. We need revenge for that crapfest against them in 2006. IIRC the last time we had a primetime game against Miami, it was the infamous Monday Night Football game against them in 97, where the game was supposed to be played on a Sunday but instead was moved to Monday to accomodate the Marlins game 7 of the World Series.

And Soul I agree. I do not like bracing for a flag everytime te Bears do something good like a big kick return, a TD run, etc. Sure it's nice to see a long run against the Bears negated for a holding call or something. But overall it annoys me.

I can't stand the effect that the PI penalty has on the NFL. It really does have such a huge impact on more than a couple games each week. I've seen enough completely wide open receivers botch easy catches that it's hard for me to justify a team get awarded all of that yardage on a judgement call like that. Half the time the ball might be catchable but not an easily catchable ball. But I find it hard to change the penalty from spot of the foul to something lesser where it's more enticing for a defender who is beat to lunge forward and purposely commit a PI penalty rather than give up a much bigger gain and or 6 points.

If the season were to end today, the Bears would host the Packers on Wild Card weekend :)

Do you think Wisconsin will top the century mark on the Michigan defense? It was better last week against a bad team, but its still really banged up and bad.

I naturally cheer for the Bears/against the Packers/Vikings, but this season my rational side keeps yelling at me "No! That is bad for the team!" If the Bears can play one or two more games this month that make them look competent, I'll have to rethink it. I dislike Lovie Smith as a coach but not enough to hope the Bears do horrible so he gets fired. I mean if he leads us to the playoffs, I am fine with that. If we go 8-8 and miss the playoffs and Lovie survives, so be it. I guess it doesn't really matter because cheering for or against the Bears doesnt affect the team in either way but still.

I want the season to be exciting and for the Bears to just miss the playoffs so the administration can clean house. But there is no great team so maybe, just maybe the Bears could win the Super Bowl. I don't see Atlanta or the Giants to be that much better than the Bears. No one is blowing anyone else out on a consistent basis. No team is dominant. If the whole point of playing in the NFL is to win a Super Bowl, maybe this is going to be the last time they could really do it in the near future. I think you are right. I keep waiting for the Saints to turn it on, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. It'll be interesting to see how the Giants respond after their loss to the Cowboys. They could really go in the toilet. I think GB has played much better than the Bears as of late, but playing Minnesota in the dome next week will be a tough game, and I'm not sure they will be able to beat Brett in his last shot against them. I have not seen the Falcons play enough to make an educated evaluation. I don't think you can forget about Philly either. If I were to rank the NFC right now I'd say: 1. Falcons 2. Packers 3. Giants 4. Bears 5. Saints 6. Philly Too bad the West is eating up a playoff spot this year. In terms of who the best teams are (and not playoff seeds), I'd go 1. Falcons 2. Saints 3. Giants 4. Packers 5. Eagles 6. Bears But the Bears really impressed me today, so I have a better opinion of them right now than I did before today. I also think that 2-4 are very close and could go either way. I put the Packers a little lower because of injuries.

Dan Pompei is predicting a 19-17 Dolphins win on Thursday. Please please please don't have a game like last years Thursday game Cutler. In the recent years, the Bears have lost a game against the Redskins in Washington, beat the Saints in Chicago, and lost to the 49ers in San Francisco. Am I missing a game?

Personally I cheer for the Bears to win every game. I don't believe in losing to have a better chance of winning in the future. I believe in winning as much as possible and letting the chips fall where they may. I just don't have it in me to root against the Bears.

I love me some Stallberg. Not exactly the same player, but he's replacing Versteegs production.

And the Hawks pretty much dominated that OT after the penalty was killed. It was only a matter of time before they scored. Also the shot differential was very encouraging. Maybe tonight it only led to an OT win, but you keep putting up numbers like that and the wins will come. Oh and given the struggles we've had this year, I'll take 3 out of 4 points available on the weekend, even if we gave our Western Conference opponents 3 points back.

FINALLY 2 points at home! Normally that takes 3-4 games to collect 2 points. Please be the start of a turnaround. I enjoy this team too much.

Another of the many problems the Blackhawks have is they seem to always take inopportune penalties late in a game with point(s) on the line. Last night a trip in OT (on a sketchy call), and tonight Kop gets called for boarding with 50 seconds left in a tie game.
