  1. Yeah I remember him being really solid in April/May (like the game against the Dodgers). That's not a bad theory. I think he even had a spot start in September when he wasn't bad. HAPP!
  2. Drew Smyly all the sudden turning into a lockdown reliever will never not surprise me. He went from getting shelled as a starter last year to immediately being an effective bullpen arm.
  3. But again he wasn't bad last year. In fact in a number of areas his numbers were the best they've been since 2020. The Cubs didn't pick up his $16.5m option for lack of better options. (at least I don't think so) 2 starts against elite offensive teams is not enough for me to suggest he should be a mop up guy just yet.
  4. Starting to get a little concerned, would be interesting if one of you smart people could try to figure out whats happening under the hood with Hendricks. He wasn't horrible last year. It's still just 2 starts though. People don't seem to have patience so i'd like to understand if its just 2 bad starts against really good offenses or what.
  5. DEFENSE Probably like 3-4 fielders in baseball that don't allow a run to score on that hit
  6. Hey its me your boss. I scheduled another meeting for you. Better get on it right now.
  7. Just gotta ride with the ups and downs of the season and realize that more often than not it will be a solid offense. Hopefully the overall good approaches will make those inevitable valleys less than the normal team
  8. Those 40+ pitch innings just get worse and worse as they continue
  9. Over 50 pitches through 2 is certainly a good thing.
  10. Owned our top hitters, now getting beat up by our weaker bats
  11. and close to 4000 of that capacity is grass lawn space in the outfield, only about 10-11k of actual seating. Also read that based on the way it was built, it would be difficult to expand it at all to add new seating. Going to be really weird, they should have just stayed in Oakland but whatever.
  12. I know calling out negativity in game threads is your thing* but I really don't understand what you want to see from a game thread in that situation. Game threads have never and will never be what you seem to think they should be. *ok unfair to call it your sole thing since I generally appreciate your contributions elsewhere, but definitely remember these discussions with you last year.
  13. He was worth 0.5 wins last year in 149 PA and give the Cubs adequate defense at 6 different positions. I mean I don't love Mastro but for a 26th man he's perfectly cromulent.
  14. Well sir the game thread was almost all positive. Are people supposed to cheer the nice effort when the team blows an 8th inning 8-2 lead?
  15. Clearly they just wanted to give Adbert some high leverage work. But seriously we won so yay but stop giving me September 2023 vibes! Bullpens are going to have rough games over the course of a season but I'm still scarred from the end of last season.
  16. The Cubs have won 6 straight games at Wrigley Field, all of them coming against the Rockies. (yes I'm milking that weird schedule oddity)
  17. Ugh, really would have been nice to get that runner home from 3rd with 1 out.
  18. I vote we never take a big lead against the Rockies in a night game at Wrigley Field again. Crazy horsefeathers frequently happens when we play this team.
  19. Well we have the lead again. This would be the funniest F the closer ever.
  20. So Jed saw the Cubs lose 5 games that they had a lead in the 8th last September causing them to miss the playoffs by 1 game and decided to fix it with Almonte and Neris? Poor Tom still suffering those biblical losses. In isolation its 1 game and whatever horsefeathers happens sometimes, but if they lose this it will be the 2nd time in 6 games that they blew an 8th inning lead and lost after tying a MLB record last September for games blown with a lead in the 8th or later.
  21. Bet Counsell wishes he had a Hader or Devin Williams to bring in. oops we ran out of money
  22. Of course it’s Blackmon that’s up in this big spot
  23. Making this unnecessarily stressful…. this feels like the Cubs Rockies game in 2015 where the Cubs blew a game that was a laugher only for KB to walk it off
