  1. the ABs of marmol's 4 walks BBBB SBBBB BBBB BBBB 16 balls, 1 strike
  2. MLB Blown Saves Leaders: Marmol - 7 4 others - 6
  3. I believe Marmol now leads the NL in blown saves, if not all of baseball. What a terrible year for him. Make Marshall the closer
  4. First 13 pitches for Marmol: 1 strike, 12 balls
  5. This coaching OBP thing is a bit silly. Just because they didn't have a high OBP in their careers doesnt mean that they don't value it. Some players just aren't good enough but make good teacher.
  6. Wow you went there. Obviously its not easy to do, that's why teams pay millions of dollars for players that do these things. You can play all the baseball you want, it doesn't change the fact that the large large majority of the games best hitters draw a lot of walks and accept working the count as a key to their success. Me not having experience working the count against a good pitcher has nothing to do with this.
  7. Are you sure no Lee? KingCubsfan in the other thread said he had him in his top 10. I'm not surprised about no Cubs-I'm not sure Szczur would make his top 100, and he doesn't think all that highly of Jackson either. Nevermind I glanced right over his name...my bad
  8. Keith Law put up his top 50 prospects at midseason. His list has no Cubs in the top 50 or honorable mentions, and no Lee on it as well.
  9. Bearclaw, I respect your argument because although it is vastly different from mine, it is thought out. But it's wrong. No one here is salivating over walks because they are walks. No one here is saying a walk is better than a hit, even a single. You seem to know the psychology between batter and pitcher in an AB, but you basically dismiss the fact that the batter has the ability to read pitches and go after or lay off them. It's not the walk that means something, its what having a high walk total stands for, which is pitch selectivity. There are exceptions to the rule (Bradley almost seemed too selective out there. Fukudome at times too) but a majority of the time if you have a high OBP/walk total, you are a pretty good hitter. Also Id be willing to bet that there is a higher coorelation between team OBP and runs scored than team BA and runs scored. Anyways, a lot of you guys can present the argument much better. Just my 2 cents.
  10. I had completely forgotten just how bad Guillen was. For some reason I thought he was a decent player. The funny thing is, he was so bad that I actually believed that .286 career SLG number. It's actually .386....still bad but not epically bad. According to B-R, it's actually .338, with a career OPS of .626. Yeah sorry I meant they said his SLG was .238, but it was really .338
  11. I dunno, him doing weird stuff doesnt seem all that cool anymore. He's trying too hard to be weird.
  12. He was great in game 1 and good in games 2 and 5, awful in games 3 and 4

  14. Am I reading this right? You would trade Marmol for Colby Rasmus? He's a career .259 hitter, doesn't get on base at a real good level, doesn't steal bases, and is only a 20 HR power guy. I've got to believe you're massively overrating his trade value.. Maybe I am wrong? I mean, I think Jackson could be brought up and put up similar numbers w/ a bit less power. Colby was the #3 prospect in baseball 2 years ago, and had a pretty solid .859 OPS in his first full season in the bigs. His .363 OBP last year seems to show that he can get on base at least slightly above average (not sure what his isolated discipline was but he his OBP was ~90 points higher than his BA). He has had a tough season but he's only 24 and I believe is pretty good in CF. If they are giving up on a player like that, I would trade an overpaid closer for him, as much as I loved Marmol during his time here.
  15. Casey Coleman gave them a 4.11 ERA in 12 appearances (8 starts) last year (albeit with dubious peripherals). Considering he could easily be shuffled back and forth from Iowa without complaint, I don't think you can fault the Cubs for thinking Coleman could have been an injury replacement in the rotation. Then despite how much we hate Doug Davis, they probably expected that he had at least a shot to contribute if we were missing 2 starters at once. He had awful numbers last year with Milwaukee, but signing him to a minor league deal to see if he can put up an ERA in the low to mid 4's like he had in the previous 3 years prior to 2010 wasn't a bad thought overall. I'm sure they didn't expect Thomas Diamond to go from ERAs of 4.20 and 3.16 in 09 and 10 to 8.66 this year. I doubt they thought Jay Jackson would go from a top 100 prospect to start 2010 to an ERA over 6. Austin Bibens-Dirkx going from 3.27 ERA to 4.61 to 7.16 this year. Mathes gonig from 3.62 to 5.44 to 9.07 this year. The Cubs came in thinking their contingency plan would include Coleman, Davis, and someone from the AAA rotation stepping up. Instead every single starter in AAA has completely regressed to the point where a team desperate for starting pitching could not justify bringing up any of those guys in Iowa.
  16. Thata boy Castro. Game 1's at Wrigley guys.
  17. This is your fault. I'll feel pretty horrible if that starts a chain of events that leads to an AL comeback.
  18. That was awful...he had his feet set, it was a routine throw and he just threw it into the dirt and Votto is not Carlos Pena at 1st.
  19. Boo, that sucked. Also that graphic comparing Starlin Castro to the great SS's of the past was awful. It was comparing 2 things, BA and hits in the first 214 games of a career. I'm all about comparing Starlin to greats, but yeah
  20. I'm so scared that Castro is going to field a grounder and bounce one towards 1B with Pena not there to save him.
  21. That was a great barehanded play by Walden.
  22. Wrote that about 30 seconds before he came in? Yup, oh well. I forgot Tulo had a leg injury and probably wouldnt run if he got on.
  23. [expletive] awesome. He's not even a big base stealer. I love.
