  1. On ESPN1000, they said 3 weeks. Where did you hear 6-8? Big blow as he was having a good series and giving us a physical presence.
  2. This is just [expletive] scary http://images.terezowens.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/larussasface.jpg Also, his daughter's face looks too much like TRL (minus the messed up eye) for me to consider her good looking.
  3. I dunno, its weird. On one hand, I don't think he would want Howard to go to a small market either. I think what he wants is to have the stars stay with the teams that drafted them, proving that any team, small or big market, can build a champion through the draft. Nowadays, small market teams have to hope they draft someone with the personality of Kevin Durant where they are willing to give loyalty to the teams that drafted them. Then again, who knows what his thought process will be by the time his next contract comes up. Either way, its things like this that make me believe that the upcoming NBA lockout will be much much worse than what the NFL is going through right now. I still don't think the NFL will lose any games, but I am preparing for a season without basketball next year. The sides are simply too far apart right now, and what the owners want is a drastic overhaul of the system that hurts the players. Oh and also both sides are already very bitter towards each other. I just don't see how either side concedes before a significant portion of the season is lost. I am probably talking out of my ass, but I think that what happened in 1999 is the best case scenario for them.
  4. If the Hawks can finish this, how much does it change the psychological feeling of being down 0-3. Last year, when you went down 0-3, you had the knowledge that a team has come back from that only 3 times in the 3 major sports to win the series. Basically it was over. Then the Flyers do it. OK, now that's 4, but still it happens very rarely, being down 0-3 is still a death sentence. I know when the Hawks went down 0-3, no part of me expected the Hawks to even get to game 7. To me the series was over. But now, two years in a row, you start to think 'hey this can happen to us too.' You have 2 examples in back to back years of a team coming back. It gives confidence to teams that are down 0-3.
  5. Hawks fans after game 3? Edit...I think this is pretty much how most hockey fans are when their team in losing. Wings fans (me included) were very much like this during the San Jose series last year The illegal hits thing was valid (meaning Hawks fans were griping about it) after game 3, but I don't think anyone was complaining about not getting too enough penalties in game 3 as we had a crapload more time on the PP than Vancouver, including a 5 on 3. I think the general consensus from Hawks fans was that we blew a game where everything went our way except the scoreboard. Most people were depressed and because of the way they ended the season (not to mention the general feeling all season) and concentrated on how the Hawks just weren't good enough this year rather than blame other factors for why we were down 0-3. I am assuming you are "cheering" for the Hawks tomorrow 1) to knock the presidents trophy out of the tournament and 2) to get home ice against nashville vs. going on the road to play San Jose?
  6. Our cleanup hitter....is Jeff Baker... I know he's been pretty good, especially with lefties, but weird. It reminds me of Dusty's theory of putting the sub in the same spot of the batting order the normal player would be in (for example hitting Trinidad Hubbard 3rd when Sosa was on the DL for sneezing).
  7. Yeah, not sure how anyone could like that redneck wasteland in Ohio over Baltimore. (sorry rocket)
  8. Meh...when the going gets tough, blame the refs. It's what every fan base in every sport does. Still funny to read though :)
  9. And into a full-body cast. Probably still better than Rondo.
  10. Regional exclusive. They are in Southern Ohio up to Columbus, Northern Kentucky, and Indiana up to Indy, and I think they still have a location in Naples, FL.
  11. Small meaning 27th largest metro area in the US. Like for instance, I used to live in Baltimore, which has about 700K more in its metro and has been around just as long, and they don't have nearly as many metro-exclusive chains as Cincinnati has.
  12. I've always enjoyed this picture from last year: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/6355/kaned.jpg
  13. I forgot about Penn Station. That's some good stuff too. for such a relatively small metro area, they sure have a lot of unique chains originating in the town. Skyline has locations throughout Ohio, southern Indiana, Kentucky and Florida. Gold star throughout the Cinci region, LaRosa's throughout Ohio, and in Kentucky and Indiana. Penn Station is in somewhere around 10 states. Graters is more of a regional chain but you'll see them in Columbus and Indy I believe.
  14. Wow I've never heard most of those. Can't hate Fuld. Cubs never gave him a good enough shot (and I can't really disagree with them), so good for him. Plus he went to UNH and is from the town in NH I used to live in, so go Sam Fuld!
  15. Yeah, as great as last night was, it pales in comparison to Game 5 against the Predators last year. I still believe that without Kane's shorthanded miracle goal, the Hawks lose the series to Nashville. Such an awful feeling thinking they'd lost (the series, in my mind) . . . to a goal with 13 seconds left and a win in OT . . . and later a Stanley Cup, of course. I know, what a disaster that would have been to have a team as good as last year's was losing in the first round to a clearly inferior team (no disrespect to Nashville). We were so close to that happening. Every cup winning team needs a little luck somewhere along the way in their quest for the Cup, and for us, this was the biggest piece we got.
  16. Strangely, I've been both to Montgommery Inn in Montgommery and the one on the river downtown, and the one in Montgommery was much better for some reason. The meat was much more tender and the sause had a little bit of bite to it (at least for midwest standards). Overall, I enjoy Skyline, Montgommery Inn and Graters ice cream from Cinci. I mostly dislike Larosa's, but that's mostly because the first time I had it was at Paul Brown Stadium, whilst watching the Bears get embarrassed. I even like the UDF ice cream, although I find it really odd that the biggest gas station/convience store chain in the region sells ice cream out of their stores, and I see people buying the ice cream at all hours of the day. Cincinnati sure likes their ice cream.
  17. You know I love to stick it to the Canucks, but there have been some well-balanced opinions coming from their fan base as well. Yes, there's the hysteria and general butt-hurtedness that comes with blowing a 3 game lead, but it hasn't been all bad. I'll be honest, their reactions that I read actually scared me. If this were the Cubs, NSBB would be catatonic. Their biggest thing is that they believed the Canucks dominated the Hawks in the 3rd and OT (which isnt unreasonable to say) and that if they put that kind of effort into game 7, they will win. The calmness and rationality of their response kind of went against what I was expecting and made me doubt, just a little, that we will see or morgue like setting if the Hawks get an early goal. Maybe I'm wrong though. For the record, the players were surprisingly upbeat and calm about the situation too. Not that I expected them to sound like they just lost the series, but I was surprised at how reletively poised and confident their interviews sounded.
  18. Canucks fans are stupid. They are all bitching about the break in the action with just under 10 minutes left to clear up the ice. There aren't supposed to be TV timeouts in OT, and they think the refs just randomly granted one just for fun. I thought these guys were supposed to know hockey? One the first stoppage of play after 10 minutes left in OT, the ice crew is supposed to come out and clean the ice. It happened last year in the Sharks-Hawks game (game 3, the game where Buff scored the game winner), so its not some brand new rule they just made up on the spot. They also think the Hawks got away with murder in the game, but that's expected.
  19. Seriously....we don't win that without his fantastic saves in OT. Maybe he wasn't standing on his head, but he was under constant attack in the OT. Canucks just choked..simple as that Crawford was outstanding but if Johnson doesn't come back and tip that pass on the 2-1 breakaway, the Hawks are done. This is true. When I saw the puck rebound off Crawford in that direction, I put my hands over my face, thinking it was over. Huge play. That and Leddy getting his stick on that shot on the Canucks 4 on 2 a short time before the goal.
  20. You knew Rose sprained his ankle, so it shouldnt be any kind of surprise that he was in a walking boot today. That's what I mean by not a big deal. As I said, its common practice for teams to do that with ankle injuries.
  21. Looks like we would be playing SJ if we won on Tuesday, correct? Unless SJ blows a 3-1 lead, and then we'd be playing the Wings. I absolutely cannot believe I am even considering the possibility of round 2. Who'd a thunk it?
  22. He's getting shipped in the offseason if that happens. How many teams want a goalie who chokes in the playoffs and has 11 years left on his contract? He has a no-trade clause too. I'm sure Eastern conference teams would like him seeing as they wouldnt see the Hawks until the Finals
  23. Home ice did wonders for them in game 5
  24. Apparently, Bieska was waving "goodbye" to the fans at the UC after his 3rd period goal gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead. Yep, goodbye UC, hello Vancouver for game 7
  25. I've heard rumors his glovehand is hurt and that is what is causing the poor goaltending. True? Heard that too. That's how the Hawks got back into the series by attacking the glove side. But I definitely don't think its all the hand injury
