  1. I wonder if they are having Grabow warming up in the pen as a threat for the hitters to get the job done now.
  2. I'm still reading. This is just idiotic. Is he trying to compare 2 sports by comparing our National Team in the championship round of the most prestigious tournament of its sport against a league championship game between a US team and a west coast Canadian team? How about compare the US-Japan game with the US-Canada Gold Medal game last year? US-Canada: 17.6 Rating US-Japan: 8.6 Rating Soccer may very well be becoming more popular than hockey, but these arguments are so stupid its not even funny.
  3. I was just looking last night at the fact that Shark hadn't allowed an ER in his last 12 appearances. Oh well. Garza should be something like 8-6 but instead he's 4-7.
  4. Why the [expletive] does that middle paragraph need to be there? It's like he's trying be the worldly journalist teaching the small town inbreds about life outside of Williston, ND. Read that quote again but omit the middle thing. Why is it there? Also, why the hell is 'Ratings' randomly on the end of the paragraph?
  5. I mean it's not something I would do when they suck and I think they look stupid. But at the end of the day, it's entertainment and the people were entertained for a day. Let them sing and dance.
  6. Replace book with cell phone and that's pretty much what's done now. Anyways, I say we play the song only when we lose, but with modified lyrics. "Hey Chicago whaddya say? The number one pick is on it's way!" either that or "Albert Pujols (or Prince Fielder) is on his way!"
  7. Wow, just looked it up. Before this series, the Cubs were 1-13-1 in their last 15 series.
  8. This is the first series win for the Cubs in 10-11 series, correct?
  9. 1-2 year deal? How about just a 1-2 month deal and let him go on June 1st. I know everyone knows this but I've ever seen a player who is so consistently inconsistent. OPS by Month, career: April: .979 May: .767 June: .640 July: .741 August: .834 September: .633
  10. Someone should either start a new thread with that ESPN article, there's a ton of new news in it.
  11. Personally, I'd fire Quade. Me too, not sure what WSR is thinking. Jason Frasor isn't even that good. And we all know PTBNL's almost never amount to anything.
  12. I'm ok with keeping Aramis if you can promise me 2 things: 1) He won't leave for nothing this season (if he opts out) or next. I'm assuming that due to his awful year last year, he has a chance to be a Type B FA if he opts out this year. 2) We don't give him more than 2 years for his next deal. The last thing we need is another broken down position player with an untradable contract.
  13. Making Castro the scapegoat worked for him last year. He probably figures there's no harm in doing it again. In all seriousness, what the hell Quade?
  14. If only I knew how awkward. Are you sure you really want to know?
  15. Wait, really? I don't remember that at all being like Aramis this year. Aramis was pretty decent from the start, but just wasn't hitting for much power until about a couple months into the season. Lee was completely wretched in April and then went nuts after that for the rest of the season. I guess I remembered incorrectly. Maybe I just dwelled on his lack of power and considered him enroute to being washed up and made the connection to Lee's 2009.
  16. Aramis' year so far reminds me of 2009 Derrick Lee. He started off the season horribly, a year after a subpar season. People start to think he's finished and then all the sudden, he just starts raking it and ends up with great numbers.
  17. Although I always believed in the value of patience and drawing walks, watching the 2008 Cubs really hammered that into my head. It was amazing watching that team go up against tough pitchers and make them work, throwing 90 pitches in 5 innings, and even if they didn't score a lot, they were able to get the pitcher out after 6 innings and feast on their middle relief. How many innings did we have in games where the Cubs just weren't hitting the ball well, and were able to draw a couple of walks and then next thing you know you have a 3 run inning? The difference in hitting approach between 2008 and now is night and day. This is a horrible and rather awkward analogy, but people who use ecstacy say to never have sex on it because you'll never enjoy sober sex again. That's what the 2008 Cubs have done to me. I just can't enjoy watching the Cubs offense when it's hacking away and has to rely on 3 hits to score a single run, when I have seen what a truely productive offense can do.
  18. I smell something.... but I don't think it's a CUBS win. [sigh] Is it.....another series loss where the Cubs win the first game??
  19. The problem with the Cubs is that they have a generations long history of never rolling a 7. Here's the complete list of Cubs draft picks (who actually signed with the team) with at least a 5.0 Career WAR since 1990: Doug Glanville Steve Trachsel Kerry Wood Justin Speier Kyle Loshe Jon Garland Scott Downs Corey Patterson Eric Hinske Dontrelle Willis Mark Prior Ryan Theriot Ricky Nolasco Geovany Soto Randy Wells Sean Marshall We should be seeing the "fruits" of the 2004-2006 drafts right now, but there's just no one there. Colvin and Samardjiza are the only two from those three drafts on our major league roster in 2011. I suspect that the issue is not necessarily who they've drafted, but how they develop the players after they draft them. Regardless, the Cubs sheer inability or refusal to produce players out of their system is beyond frustrating. Is there a source for that? Just curious, I want to look up other teams if that's possible.
  20. Damn there are a lot of Phillies fans there. Pretty audible cheer on that K
