  1. Do the Indians really think they are good enough to contend? I have no idea about the prospects they are giving up but, it doesn't seem like they are ready to throw away their rebuilding plan to contend this year. They've gone 22-36 since their 30-15 start. Ubaldo will help and he'll be under team control for awhile but is it a move they need to make now?
  2. Does anybody know what he means by that exactly? It sounds like the avg payroll of all 32 teams has to be 99% of the cap, not every single team has to be at 99%. So there are teams that will be spending less than the 99%. At least that's how I'm reading it. Maybe someone here can explain it better??? Also, I heard that they don't have to be at 99% this season, its a gradual thing over the next 3 years that they have to get to.
  3. Wow, I just got free tickets to Paul McCartney tomorrow and then I turn on the TV and see the Cubs have scored a weeks worth of runs, wtf is going on.
  4. The difference (unless I'm mistaken) is that we weren't going to get any comp picks for Kosuke, but we can for Pena. And Pena is more valuable. Do you really think we're going to offer Pena arbitration if our offseason is centered around signing Pujols and/or Fielder? I'm not saying that we know for a fact it is, but it's possible that's the case, and if so I doubt they chance offering Pena arby
  5. Nice to see that at least one person recognized the moment (if half-heartedly). I'm a little disappointed in this place. Wherever he ends up, it's quite a story that deserves recognition. You're disappointed that the 4 people who actually posted in this game thread didn't acknowledge the opposing player on our arch rivals hitting a meaningless milestone that everyone knew he would eventually get? Maybe you are expecting way too much from a fanbase that can barely muster any enthusiasm for our own team.
  6. Nice outing Marmol. I'm sure the Cardinals hitters appreciate the batting practice. 1 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K There were at least 5 batters who hit him hard in the inning.
  7. I cant wait until other sports come back so I can stop even occasionally thinking about this team. Damn you Cubs you've made me hate baseball.
  8. The other night he held up the tying run at 3rd because there were 0 outs and that run never got home. This time we're down 5 with 1 out and he sends him to his death.
  9. Why are people upset we didn't sign a second WR? As I said before the WRs arent that bad, there just isn't a #1 type WR on this team no matter what Lovie says. Knox could be a pretty good number 2. Hester is a good number 3. Bennett could be a good number 2. The team chose Roy Williams as their #1 receiver target. Wasn't my first choice, but so be it. At least they got something. So now we wait and see if they were right. But at this point it didn't make sense to bring in Sims-Walker even though many (including me) would have rather had him than Williams.
  10. Is it just me or is this team getting worse and worse as the year goes on?
  11. Cubs trying to score 0 after loading the bases with 0 outs again.
  12. Jeez, Philly teams really love stocking up in a particular position with superstars
  13. Gholston is a Bear Wow what a stupid signing
  14. Yeah they seem to run their team like its an MLB The Show Franchise. Cliff Lee? How sick would it be to have him with Hamels, Halladay and Oswalt? Awesome let's get him...i'm not going to play this franchise mode long enough to see those prospects get better anyways. I need an OF, hey Hunter Pence is available but they are asking for a crapload. Lets blow them away with our 3 top prospects.
  15. This says it all:
  16. Yuck, he's awful, and I'm not just saying that because he's from Ohio State. He's a much bigger disappointment than Gaines Adams was when we brought him aboard.
  17. I doubt casual fans could do that. Even casual fans care about winning or losing and their excitement peaks and valleys based on that. The difference is, the casual fans have long erased the 2011 Cubs from their memories and would not be posting in meaningless game threads like this one.
  18. Reggie who? Yeah that's a great set of moves. Obviously Bush has more talent and upside than Sproles, but Sproles does a lot of the stuff Reggie did for them in previous years. So they got 80% of Reggie Bush and a 3rd round pick (right?) out of it.
  19. Yeah this doesnt really seem like a Bears type acquisition at all. If they were going to go after a showboating WR, why not put an offer in for Ochocinco before the Pats got him?
  20. Well he's tall....
  21. I do like this comment: But like someone said, this was from 2 years ago so we've yet to see this focus pay off.
  22. You are acting like other teams were like "Oh crap, Albert Haynesworth? Why didn't I think of acquiring him! Dammit Patriots, you are just too smart for us." It's so damn shrewd of the Pats to take a chance on an overpaid headcase who chooses when to display his admittedly good talent.
  23. Back then I was infatuated with Fukudome because I read so many good things about him, but at the same time if the choice was between a 26 year old who produced a 3.9 WAR the prior two years and would make $9 million a year and a 30 year old coming off a wrist injury (i think) who was coming from japan where power doesn't always translate well, and would make $12 million a year, it seems like a no brainer right? I don't blame Hendry for trusting his scouts who apparently gushed nonstop over him, but his scouts were wrong.
  24. That's a lot of spin. They were in the NFC Championship game. Somehow that's a joke? It definitely could be. A bad call against the Lions, a horrible team in the Divisional game and the Green Bay game wasn't as close as the score indicated. GB is stacked on defense and our offense will continue to be inept against them and perhaps even the Lions if we don't seriously upgrade our offensive positions. DBs are the least of our problems. In terms of importance in a Lovie Smith defense, CBs are towards the bottom. And based on numbers, it doesn't seem like they did that bad at all. Rodgers had his 2nd lowest QB rating, 3rd lowest completion percentage, 6th lowest passing yards of any game that year in the NFC title game. A bad non-challenge against the Redskins, a bad luck 1st and goal not converted against the Lions, and the Bears are even better than what they were last year.
