  1. Yeah, the Other Sports and Social forums keep quite active. Well that's just it. NSBB has its core members of the board who actively discuss any and all topics. It's more or less a general message board with a Chicago sports lean. And thats why the membership is likely stagnant (besides the obvious 'cubs are boring to discuss right now'), as it is advertised as a Cubs board, but there are more active Cubs forums out there nowadays to appeal to people coming to talk Cubs, and since most new traffic to the site is from people looking to discuss the Cubs, the social forums are not a draw and/or not noticed by potential new members.
  2. At least we almost kind of won. Losing by only 2 is nothing to hang your hats on. And we did have the tying run up in the 9th. Moral victory! Quade round up the boys and lets go to Dairy Queen!
  3. Lot a Cubs fans growing up apparently. Maybe the 2003 Cubs grabbed so many fans of a certain age (17-23) and 8 years later those fans are now (25-31) and are hitting that period you are referring to. Since most were still in that range in 2006, it would explain why this sentiment didn't exist nearly as much back then.
  4. This is how I feel. My GF and a few of her friends went to the game yesterday, and despite sitting at home all night, when she came in the door I had to ask her who won. Not because I was too lazy to turn on the game or check the score, but because I didnt even think to. I just simply don't care. And I kind of wish I did. But I don't. As someone who previously placed a huge emphasis on sticking with teams through thick and thin, as I have done with past bad Cubs teams, and hating on fair weathered fans, it really boggles my mind why I don't care, and why so many others like me feel the same. Anyways, for those fans who are not already long time members and actively read and post in the social forums, I don't see a point to hanging out and posting about the Cubs on this forum. It's not like we're actively looking for new posters, and the new ones that do come here and arent used to the NSBB style of posting will quickly leave when they present an argument that doesn't sit well with the board majority.
  5. Someone named "J.T. Thomas" taking an 8th grader to the school dance would have been an even bigger deal to that girl in like 1997.
  6. Magic and Kobe. Well Kobe had a bunch of air balls against the Jazz one year but he was like 18 or 19 at the time. Basically Rose sucks because he didn't have a prime Kareem or Shaq on his team. 2004 Finals against Detroit, Kobe shot 38.1% from the field (only in Game 2 was he over 37%), and was 4-23 (17.4%) from three. He averaged 22.6 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 4.4 apg and 3.6 turnovers per game. All of those were significantly worse than any other playoff series that year. And that's even more indefensible because IIRC, the Pistons were single-covering Shaq and refused to leave the other Lakers open for shots. Shaq scored 34 points on 13-16 shooting while Kobe was 10-27 in Game 1. He also had 36 on 16-21 shooting in Game 4 while Kobe was only 8-25. Shaq averaged four more points and shot 25% better from the field (he never shot worse than 50% in a game in the Finals) than Kobe did that series but took six less shots per game. I'm not sure if Kobe had any other series where he played so poorly but that was one that popped into my head immediately. Thanks, that actually makes me feel a little better about Rose's performance.
  7. I dunno, can the Cubs sustain the BA they are at, because if they aren't walking and aren't hitting HRs that offensive number will drop. Even as it is right now, the offense is good but very inconsistent.
  8. Point taken, but the last time Rose missed a clutch FT like that before tonight was in Game 4.
  9. I'm pretty sure 0.28 points per play means they have to run it 8 times to get a FG out of it. And in those 8 plays, Derrick turns it over 2-3 times.
  10. This a timeline of snippets from the realgm game thread on tuesday: "I hope Thibs lays off the pick and rolls. they really haven't generated much offense for the Bulls in game 3" - - - "Dammit, they are running a lot of P&Rs early on. Thibs its not working, switch to something else" - - - "OMG THEY ARE STILL RUNNING P&Rs WHAT THE [expletive] DOES THAT EVER WORK?" - - - "OK its halftime, Thibs will realize the P&R isnt helping anyone. Rose looks like [expletive] whenever he runs it." - - - "OMG ROSE JUST TURNED THE BALL OVER AGAIN OFF A SCREEN" - - - "Bulls are losing by 6 with a minute left in OT, and Thibs calls for ANOTHER P&R....why God why?"
  11. If there's one man who can get his career on track, its Mark Riggins
  12. If the Indians were to win the world series, the 2nd longest world series drought would either be 52 years shorter than the Cubs (if you count expansion teams who've never won - the Senator/Ranger franchise), or 71 years shorter (if you are counting only teams that have won the title before - the Pirates) Seriously, the Indians win and this is what the longest droughts would look like: Cubs - 103 years Pirates - 32 years Orioles - 28 years Tigers - 27 years etc etc etc Also, no its call Progressive Field now
  13. What about the infamous Charlotte pick?
  14. And Thibs has a fractured brain if Kurt Thomas doesn't play tonight.
  15. I would criticize the Thunder's ability to close out games but....you know
  16. I love Jason Richardson and have been advocating him all year, but at the same time he didn't really impress me with Orlando. But then again, Orlando doesn't have a guard like Rose to draw defenses away from him. He's a FA this year, he can at least be average on defense, but I'd bet he'd do well in Thibs defense, he can create his shot and score with the best of them, outside and slashing.
  17. Nope. You always end up hating the team you're playing, imo. I don't remember the Bulls ever playing "likeable" teams in the Jordan years. Indy, NY, Pistons, Lakers, Blazers, Sonics, Jazz....man I hated every one of those teams at the time. Oddly enough I'm really fond of some of the players on those teams now, in retrospect. But I reviled them back then. I thought the Nets were pretty likable when we were playing them :)
  18. Great point. That's the fun of the playoffs though. You are desperate, they are desperate, and they are pulling out all the stops to ensure your season ends, and you are pulling out all the stops to ensure their season ends. As far as hating that we are falling to the Heat. Yeah it sucks. I hate the Heat too. It hurts to know they are probably going to win a title and we could have stopped them. But after watching the first 4 games of this series, do you think we were really coming into the series equipped to stop them? I'd be a lot more heart broken if we outplayed them every game and still lost because of some fluke occurances happening or something. But that didn't happen. We just plain were beaten down the stretch of 3 straight games. We can play with the Heat for 43 minutes but not 48. So just let the pain linger and hope we can respond last year. I simply don't buy everyone the saying that this is the one year the Heat could get beaten.
  19. Does not feeling as disappointed as feel like I should be mean that the Bulls satisfied my expectations this year?
  20. something to do with cockfighting
  21. Wells is essentially coming off the DL to replace Garza, isn't he? Yes, but most people know me as natural pessimist, so leave it to me to frame the situation in the most negative light :)
