  1. What is better than an Aramis home run? An Aramis home run where you get to hear Chris Carpenter's immediate reaction.
  2. No reason not to play hard ball with him. Big money secondary contracts to RB routinely end up biting the team in the butt eventually. He's not a free agent, and he's not elite, so he shouldn't expect elite RB money. Not for his running ability alone, but his receiving ability makes him pretty damn close to elite. Most people lately have been ranking him among the Top 5 current backs in the NFL. Yeah a lot of the "advanced" FO stats had Forte on par with Adrian Peterson last year. Then again the year before he sucked. So we'll see what this year brings.
  3. Geo seems like he's starting to heat up. If the past is any indication, expect an injury soon.
  4. Yeah, this is kind of heart wrenching. Still glad he's out the door, though. I've always liked Hendry as a person. Seems like a really genuine down to earth guy. I know Vance has had some very positive encounters with him in the past and Hendry remembered him each time, and spent time chatting with him. It sucks that he's out of a job, but I mean the guy just had a backwards philosophy and made a lot of questionable moves. He deserved his fate and I'm really happy that we're looking elsewhere, but I do feel a bit sorry for him because I know he truly gave everything he had to the Cubs.
  5. Didn't you say his secretary is your neighbor? Is she hot? She's cute I guess. I've only chatted with her about the Cubs a couple of times becuase I don't feel right obsessively stalking her for Cubs info. I will definitely talk to her about this though and try to get some dirt. Hendry mentioned her name in his press conference (Hayley)
  6. No one here seems to be mentioning that Cherington guy from the Sox. Seems like he's got a lot of good philosophys coming from Theo's world.
  7. Mark Shapiro and Paul DePodesta are two guys I know who've admitted the same thing. Kenney isn't a GM or even baseball ops FO guys like those guys are... I understand that. I was just trying to speculate on why people randomly hate him.
  8. The last 11 game threads have combined for as many pages as this one has gotten today.
  9. I don't care what the scoreboard [expletive] says, we're winning today.
  10. Good thing his job has little to do with baseball. Most people don't realize that. And according to whatever was posted on the last page, if true, he sees himself as a baseball executive.
  11. He's a leftover from the Tribune ownership, so I think that's part of it. The other part is that I believe he admitted that he came into this role having little knowledge of baseball, specifically baseball ops.
  12. I don't see why the two things have to be mutually exclusive. I don't see how they have anything to do with each other whatsoever. Hendry stayed on apparently to help get the draft picks signed. As a result, he admitted he didn't want to make any big trades at the deadline, instead leaving it for the next guy. So they are exclusive in that keeping Hendry allowed us to get the draft picks signed, but also forced us to stand pat at the deadline besides Fukudome. But for that connection to fly you have to assume a couple of things: 1) Randy Bush wouldn't have succeeded in getting some of the harder picks to sign, meaning Hendry was needed. 2) Another GM would have traded guys like Pena, instead of not making moves like Hendry. I dont see why he couldn't have multi tasked. It's been clear since well before the trade deadline that The Cubs werent going anywhere, so there was plenty of time to try and move some guys. I think you are misunderstanding. Hendry had a quote today that said part of the reason he didn't make any moves at the deadline is because he didn't think it was fair to the next guy to make those moves at the deadline so he left the roster mostly intact.
  13. Once Dusty gets canned after this year (based on Reds fans I know, that would be their greatest joy ever), I would be so happy if someone could get Dusty, Hendry and Lou on some kind of round table for the playoffs.

  15. Hendry,%2056,%20said%20Cubs%20Chairman%20Tom%20Ricketts%20notified%20him%20July%2022%20that%20he%20wouldn ' alt='>'> Not sure how I feel about this, especially keeping guys like Pena around when he is more useful to us traded for prospects. Oh well, I'd rather stand pat at the deadline and make all those draft signings, than trade pena and others for pennies and not end up signing guys like Maples.
  16. Picking Colletti would be the Cubbiest move I could possibly imagine.
  17. Apparently Jim Hendry is really upset about this.... You know how I know!??! I went to the Dunkin Donuts on Addison and they were completely sold out of all donuts. Get it...because Hendry is fat and likes donuts?
  18. Rosenthal must be the biggest idiot in the history of the world then. Seriously, when did this ARam hate really get into the mainstream? The guy has one bad season after badly dislocating his shoulder and all the sudden he's public enemy number 1 in the media. WTF
  19. Also, is this news big enough to assume that the citizens of Williston, ND are going to be reading a lot about the Cubs this week? Or will they instead be more focused on Alex Smith?
  20. Isn't this misleading? How long have baseball executives/decision-makers been referred to as general managers? Apparently since 1934 for the Cubs. Ok, so GMs didn't exist in our most successful era... COINCIDENCE!?!!? I propose a COLLEGE OF GMS!
  21. True, but I suspect that Byrd and Marmol could be moved relatively easily if the new GM felt the need. To me this offseason comes down in large part to whoever we sign and whether we are able to offload Z and Soriano...not that this is news to anyone. Dunno about marmol. Declining velocity + backloaded contract is not the ideal assett. No doubt someone would bite tho.
  22. How much will they be paying combined for Castro, Barney, Soto, Garza and Brett Jackson? A month of Soriano
