  1. Overall, no. But last night was Wade's night to finish off a close game. They were clearly running the offense through him.
  2. I'm guessing you mean heavily in favor of the Mavs? Because it was. Made me chuckle and angry at the same time.
  3. Maybe the implication is that Fielder and Pujols will only come here as part of a massive FA spree becuse they want to be in contention from day 1. Pujols isnt going to sign here if we tell him, he's it but maybe in 2-3 years our farm system will be built up enough to produce a winner. The flipside to that is that they have to spend their money on some people, so might as well fill in the rsoter with 2-3 year contracts.
  4. Fans want the team fixed now, but its not Rickett's fault they are in this situation. He has his plan apparently, and he's sticking too it. I'm sure he realized the Cubs would suck this year and the fans would be turning against him, pressuring him to flip it around quickly....put some bandaids on it and fit it for 2-3 years. Basically how the Cubs, or more specifically Jim Hendry, has run the team since 2004. It's not easy to be patient, especially when the team hasn't won in so long its a late night punchline, and all your rivals have won recently, etc. but what Ricketts is doing requires patience, and if that is his plan, I am willing to not judge him for awhile. The thing that scares me though is that there really isnt a ton of "baseball people" in the front office other than Hendry and his hand appointed staff. So basically the image I get of him is a life long fan embarking on a crazy plan to turn around the team in a world he is mostly unfamiliar with. But then again, its the people who usually do things like this unconventionally are the ones who end up being successful.
  5. Stop saying this like it's fact. With the money coming off the books the Cubs could very easily be competitive as early as next season. No, it's by no means a lock, but that so many people have this automatic assumption that the Cubs are going to so hopelessly suck and can do nothing about it for the next 3+ seasons is absurd. It certainly isn't a fact but has there been any indication otherwise? The payroll was cut coming into this season. Attendance is WAY down this year and I think it is foolish to assume that the money coming off the books will automatically be put back into the payroll for 2012. What exactly has Ricketts done or said that makes you think he's committed to winning at all costs? Are you serious? Ricketts is going to respond to dwindling attendance by cutting the payroll by 25% and not put anything back into it? Ricketts knew when he bought the team that the payroll was right up to the limit and actually a little more than he could handle. So yeah because of moves made before he was owner, we've been struggling to do anything that adds payroll to the team. But there has been nothing said or done to indicate that Ricketts is going to randomly cut the payroll down to 80M or whatever. That's insane.
  6. Exactly. Sullivan and Woj on ESPN framing the issue as Z being an idiot again are dead wrong. How can anyone NOT be embarassed by this mess of a team? At least Z cares. The issue is, those bozos have an agenda and Bruce doesn't. He may not like Z (or he may, I don't know) but he's not going to try to run him out of town. He indirectly admits that what Zambrano said wasn't a "safe" comment and he's gonna catch flack for it, but he's not writing an article saying that Z might never play for the Cubs again 20 minutes after he said it. No one really knows how the Cubs management and/or Marmol took the comments, so Bruce doesn't speculate. He just says "Z said something somewhat controversial, he's not really far off from the truth, but he's gonna look like the bad guy."
  7. +1 for the Meatballs out there Haha you lose Sullivan!
  8. New blood! Time to show them what NSBB is all about.... And by that I mean, welcome them with open arms of course!
  9. That sucks. Huge huge win for Miami. That's depressing.
  10. This is insane to see Miami randomly getting abused a little bit by the officials. It's also amazing to see Miami running its offense through Wade, not James down the stretch. An obvious result from Game 2.
  11. If Dallas can start hitting shots maybe they'd actually have a chance. This is a pathetic shooting display
  12. I know it's considered showing up your teammates, but whatever. I like what Z said, and I don't think Marmol should get all that offended.
  13. I am so angry at the Cubs....I am especially the most mad about our young, team controlled offseason acquisition who has been the best starting pitcher on the team, and the hitter, on a team with horrible plate discipline, that has the best OBP on the team and has probably been the 2nd best overall hitter. Oh and we probably shouldn't sign Albert Pujols because he'll probably have the worst season of his career, which would be the 2nd best season by a Cub since 2002.
  14. What time is the Hee Haw marathon starting in the St. Louis area?
  15. Marmol just doesnt look all that unhittable save the slider to strike out Rasmus. Just end it now Cardinal turds
  16. IF Wells, Cashner and Garza took every start this year AND IF Byrd didn't get hit in the face, Soriano didnt pull up lame, Soto didnt do whatever he did to get hurt. We'll we'd probably be .500 or a few games or so under/over. Our team ERA would be a lot better, but I don't know if the offense would be all that much better. Other than Soto, the other 2 still simply do not have a high enough OBP to 'fix' the issues with the offense. Sure Byrd might hit .300, Soriano might hit 30 HR, which is better than whatever Colvin and Campsomething and Montonez could do, but still going to be a situation where it takes stringing together 3+ hits to score a run. And Soto, despite all his struggles, can get on base via the walk but he's getting on base so the pitcher can drive him in.
  17. Man, if only Sharp was able to get that puck into the halfway open net in OT of game 7. It's amazing how something like Sharp shooting it right into Lu might completely change the course of a "cursed" franchise and give them a Stanley Cup.
  18. There are plenty of other reasons to discredit him. There are enough pessimists on the site that people would be freaking out if there was any legitimacy to what he wrote. He quoted one unnamed source and really stretched what he said into a sensationalist article painting a picture of misery.
  19. I honestly don't know if Pujols would really sign here if we lose 90-95 games. Assuming we spent 25-30 Mil on him, would we have much more room to upgrade out side of him? Can you really convince Pujols that we can win short term (and long term). Maybe. It all depends on what choices he has when we get to that point I guess.
  20. Pitching to the best hitter in baseball needing a home run or pitch to someone who has been one of the best hitters in baseball this year needing a double to win. Does walking Pujols really increase the Cubs chances of getting out of the inning? Yes, absolutely it does. You can't let Pujols beat you there. Pujols home runs by year: 2006: 49 2007: 32 2008: 37 2009: 47 2010: 42 2011: 12 Berkman's doubles+HR by year: 2006: 74 2007: 58 2008: 75 2009: 56 2010: 37 2011: 21 Is there a reason to expect that Pujols is more likely to hit a home run in the 12th than Berkman to hit a HR or double? I understand the psychological reasons of walking him as a heart move but I'm not sure if it truly is the best head move. Berkman is definitely worse than Pujols but he's not so much worse that if you give him another way to beat you he can do that just as well as Pujols can. Yeah but the result of pitching to him isn't just hitting a home run or an out. He could hit a double or a triple that sets things up for a Berkman RBI single, and people will still rip on the Cubs for pitching to Pujols.
  21. Shark's lips while watching the homer: "What? No! There's no [expletive] way"
  22. Make that 19 of 20, with the only one that reached on an IF hit.
