  1. I wish Nate Silver could figure out the odds, given the scenarios entering the last day of the season, that we would be deprived of no tiebreaker games the last 2 seasons. IIRC, there were 3 teams with a chance to win the NL Wild Card last year, and given the 8 scenarios possible, a 75% chance of seeing a tiebreaker game.
  2. Theriot will bat .600, win World Series MVP and get signed to a three-year extension. Only to have the contract voided when he tests positive for pixie dust.
  3. I'm probably biased but if I were Philly I'd be dying to play STL and therefore be trying to win this game. Their offense is real weak outside Albert and their pitching isn't good enough to make up for it. Arizona's got a scarier top of the rotation. I saw this and was confused. Outside of Pujols the Cardinals have two .900 OPS hitters, two .800 OPS hitters and two hitters in the .775 range. and Ryan Theriot It appears that he's become a bench player. You can't quiet the Riot

  5. *waits for SSR to point out that Rose carried*
  6. If I could show you a minute by minute reaction to last night's events by Bill Simmons, would that be something you'd be interested in? Oh, ok here you go: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7033950/a-running-diary-game-162
  7. Only if Holliday takes one off the nuts again. TBH, the Cardinals could win the series. I won't pick them but they have the middle of the order that can get to the Phils pitching hypothetically.
  8. LMAO During the rain delay, Dan Shaugnesy (sp) went on NESN and said (paraphrasing): "I think the Rays are not going to win tonight. I think the one thing that we have learned already tonight is that the Red Sox season is not going to end tonight. They live to play another day." This of course is when the Yankees were up 7-0 and the Sox were up 3-2
  9. John Heyman says that the Red Sox collapse is the worst in baseball history, and the Braves collapse is the 4th I think.

  11. Can you believe how quickly the AL Wild Card swung? At 10:54 CST, the Red Sox were up 3-2 with 2 outs in the 9th and no one on, and the Yankees had runners on 1st and 3rd with 0 outs in Tampa. The Wild Card looked to be Boston's. At 10:55 the runner on 3rd for the Yankees is caught off the bag and tagged out. By 10:59, the Rays got out of the inning and the Orioles had tied the game. At 11:02, the Orioles win on a walkoff hit. At 11:06, Longoria hits a walkoff and the Rays win the Wild Card. 12 minutes. It took 12 minutes for the entire season to shift for 2 teams.
  12. Dan Plesac says the 8 teams in the playoffs played the best in September. I seem to remember a 1-9 Phillies run in September.
  13. haha, that's like the greatest graph in history. grahpical porn
  14. Agreed. They did a really good job with all the back and forth drama.
  15. wow...Rays win the Wild Card
  16. This is like the first round of the NCAA Tournament but for baseball
  17. WOW!!!! RED SOX LOSE PAPELBON BLOWS THE SEASON
  18. WOW another game tying hit with 2 outs and 2 strikes!
  19. [expletive] now the Rays are about to blow it. What a depressing day of baseball. 2 straight years we have fantastic odds of seeing a one game playoff and we might not end up having one.
  20. Dammit, way too much swinging in 3 ball counts
  21. Dammit, way too much swinging in 3 ball counts
  22. Pujols will definitely stay now
  23. [expletive] you Carlos Marmol....why'd you have to blow that game?
  24. [expletive] you braves....[expletive] you
  25. Atlanta: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/MLB/National/NLEastern/Atlanta_ChanceWillMakePlayoffs.html 99.64% on August 25th Boston: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/MLB/American/ALEastern/Boston_ChanceWillMakePlayoffs.html Strangely enough, Boston's chances also peaked on the same day, when they hit 99.90% on August 25th.
