  1. Over the last 30 games, the Pirates have scored more than 5 runs in a game 3 times. I'm sure you know where this is going but 2 of those 3 games were against the Cubs over the last week. Granted the other time was against the Brewers also this week so maybe their bats are breaking out of their horrific slump but damn guys.
  2. I just don't think Jeds the guy who is going to give you a flashy offseason unless things fall into his lap. He's gonna build a mid-80s win team, assess where their holes are midseason and go out and try to fortify the roster. I'm guessing his long term hope is that the top prospects eventually come up and give him cheap star level production and right now he's just biding his time by putting out playoff caliber teams (albeit incomplete ones). Things are never as bad as they are at their worst and never as good as they are at their best. And if this is their worst (going 8-12 in a 20 game stretch) then they're probably pretty decent. But we havent seen whether we've hit the low point of this funk yet I suppose.
  3. I'm also certain unless they really fall off a cliff that they will make significant moves. I know Jed is pretty conservative and all that but he's not going to let this team fall 1 game short of the playoffs again.
  4. Nah we're fine. Every season in Cubs history has had a stretch like this and there are numerous legitimate reasons why the Cubs are struggling. And we'll see how the next week plays out but this stretch of struggling? 8-12 over a 20 game stretch. Not great at all but its not like we're free falling (yet). The hitting is the only thing that concerns me as it seems like we've been in a funk for awhile but there is still quite a bit of room to improve there. I don't think the Cubs are going to win 95 games or anything but they're probably in the 83-88 win range IMO (which actually means we'll play at a worse pace than we've played so far the rest of the year)
  5. ERAs of the last 12 starters against the Cubs: Peralta - 3.63 Darvish - 2.43 Vasquez - 6.32 Cease - 2.45 Jones - 2.89 Skenes - 3.00 Falter - 4.15 Lopez - 1.34 Sale - 2.54 Morton - 3.52 Jones - 2.89 Skenes - 3.00 (live ERA)
  6. I don't know if there is a specific number they have in mind but they've been very much babying him all year in terms of not letting him go deep into games and/or throwing a lot of pitches.
  7. I've been defending Kyle all year and willing to give him but I think it's time. If the Cubs didn't have a number of better options available, maybe it would be a tougher call. Still wonder if they'll try to move him to the pen to see if he can provide any value especially since we're really thin in the pen.
  8. But seriously I might have to turn this game on as I might be seeing Kyle in a Cubs uniform for the last time. I don't think this will be it quite yet, but I can't rule it out either.
  9. I don't know why you guys are ripping on Hendricks, his ERA has only gone up 0.31 runs today Edit: nevermind one of the runs was unearned, his ERA has actually gone DOWN 0.10 runs today.
  10. In related news Zaidman is still absolutely terrible at his job
  11. Well that was disappointing and anti-climatic. Given the schedule and the starters we've faced the last 3 weeks or so plus the injuries, its understandable to be treading water right now. Just hope they can get it going soon once the schedule gets lighter and the injured guys come back.
  12. There was a point last year when Madrigal actually looked like he was an asset at the plate. He reached a .713 OPS for the season at that point but injured his hammy and then was really bad when he returned and really bad this year. I know he's probably not going anywhere because of his positional value but I desperately hope he finds some sort of form at the plate. Doesn't have to have an .800 OPS... is asking for .675 too much? 2023 First 37 games - .235/.284/.292/.576 2023 17 games prior to injury - .377/.441/.547/.988 2023 Post Hammy Injury - .235/.273/.322/.594 2024 So Far (not inc today) - .234/.300/.281/.581 OK so maybe it was just a hot 17 game stretch and hes really a high .500's OPS hitter. Just have no idea why he fell off a cliff when coming to the Cubs. 324 PAs isn't a ton but its definitely a decent enough sample size. He had a .317/.358/.406/.764 batting line in those 324 PAs with the White Sox.
  13. damn normally I'd be ok with at least getting 1 there given the 2nd and 3rd 0 out situation but damn we're running out of outs and we scored that run via a HBP, error and sac fly
  14. damn i thought that one might be going farther off the bat. I'll take the sac fly though.
  15. How about 2nd and 3rd with nobody out? Albeit via HBP and error but who cares
  16. That's crazy. Hopefully we finally get to a stretch where we aren't facing all star caliber starters most nights. Seems like no matter what we're hitting the top of every team's rotation every series.
  17. Wow I’d be willing to bet that was the worst pitch Madrigal has swung at in his entire career
  18. Dammit Seiya. Not that it was an easy play but I can’t believe that ball got past him.
  19. Oh man Mastro almost went yard. The wind must be blowing hard
