  1. That was a terrible call, this inning should be over yeesh
  2. Dammit Busch please just hit the ball *grounds into a first pitch DP* Damn you
  3. Holy horsefeathers this team is annoying as horsefeathers
  4. Guess just trying to help keep his best arms fresh for September/October by giving them a couple extra days of rest where he can.
  5. This is absolutely incredible. Made my night lol
  6. Yeah that was my thought. a) It's better for the Cubs that this is in July instead of tomorrow and b) it was probably done that way due to its proximity to the ASB.
  7. Mother nature does not want Joe Buck to return to the baseball broadcasting booth.
  8. I see the logic behind the move but it seems strange that they are making this trade a month before the draft. I know the Hawks have a crapload of picks so moving up 2 spots in the 1st and 4 spots in the 2nd seems logical but I doubt teams have a good feel for how the draft board is going to shake out at this point. Whatever players the Hawks want may have been there at 1.20 and 2.54. I'd have rather tried to use the surplus number of picks to trade to trade for veteran talent.
  9. FWIW I'm pretty sure I read that the Bears gave him the option to switch his footwork back last year and he chose not to.
  10. I'm sure many of you have seen this already but just in case you havent, very enjoyable 38 minutes and 3 seconds:
  11. wRC+ for May: Wisdom - 162 Hoerner - 132 Bellinger - 121 Morel - 101 Happ - 95 Busch - 90 Tauchman - 78 Crow-Armstrong - 77 Swanson - 65 Madrigal - 62 Mastrobuoni - 52 Suzuki - 51 Amaya - 29 Gomes - 1
  12. 2024 has felt very similar to 2023 so far. I know it’s not identical but there are a lot of similarities. 2023 team started out 14-10, then went 8-20 and continued to sputter for awhile hitting a low point of 9 games under .500. They then played like a 103 win team for ~70 games or so. 2024 Cubs started better (17-9) and their May drop off hasn’t been extreme (10-15) but a lot of the issues were the same: injuries, struggling bullpen, struggling offense. Hopefully 2024 continues like 2023 did and they get hot for a few months (without the eventual September collapse). They should…there’s enough talent on this team.
  13. This seems like pretty big news that will once again completely reshape the college landscape:
  14. Well we really don't have a true superstar hitter on the Cubs. Seiya and Belli are the closest but I'd say they are a level below elite hitters. Jed needs one of these guys to turn into a Soto or Judge caliber player. I know that's asking for a lot but if your strategy is to build up the farm system and tread water until they develop you need to be developing at least 1-2 superstars. Maybe others who follow the farm system can correct me but while there seems to be plenty of fun exciting hitters coming up in the farm but none of them have the upside of anything close to a Juan Soto as a hitter (sorry I just got off a conference call with a team from our NYC office that were going on and on about how well Soto and Judge have been playing while I was sitting there watching my team go down 1-2-3 every inning)
  15. Not excusing him for anything but his real plan is to have the team play competitive enough (building 80-85 win teams) until our top farm system starts graduating prospects. He might be a failure right now but if even a couple of those guys pan out the Cubs should hypothetically be good for awhile. That's the only thing that keeps me on Jed's side.
  16. At this very second, the Cubs have allowed more runs this season than they've scored (-1 RD)
  17. We're not going to make it to 10 years of service time are we Kyle
  18. Should this be a "nothing to see here, business as usual" reaction by the team/coaches or are they at the point where they need something to be shaken up, like bringing up a Davis? It's still super early in the season and the team will surely hit better at some point, but we can't afford to have too many 2-5 homestands.
  19. Yeah even though I'm not sure coaching changes does much, those are numbers that make you question what the coaching staff is doing with these guys. Teams will have ebbs and flows over the course of the season but it doesnt feel like this team should be so bad for so long. But ask me 2 hours after the game is over and I might feel differently. I tend to overreact during games.
  20. 100 wRC+ is average. I don't create the statistics, but wRC+ is a pretty good measure of how effective a hitter has been. Of course there are other statistics out there that do not make him look anything close to average so he's probably bad....just slightly less bad than like 7-8 other regular Cubs hitters. He absolutely does not pass the eye test though.
  21. It's actually pretty incredible this team won 2 games on this homestand hitting collectively like Mastrobuoni
  22. ...as Busch strikes out feebly on 3 pitches with 2 on and 2 outs lol
