  1. Holy hell that is the dumbest thing ever. How the hell did that BS get approved?
  2. Gonna really suck if he needs TJ surgery randomly next year and watches $4.2 million turn into $500,000
  3. how does that work exactly? I know there is some sandwich picks given as compensation for losing some caliber of FA's but only if that player has been on the team since the start of the season. How do they determine who is worthy enough? Still the old A/B system? And what is the difference between that and what you are talking about?
  4. Yes, the former GM of the Red Sox has absolutely no clue what it would be like to see a beloved (or whatever Dempster is) player playing for a bitter rival. NO IDEA AT ALL. Once you understand one rivalry you understand them all right? Do you think he knows that Cardinals Cubs is as bitter a rivalry as Yankees Red Sox, which he has been around for his entire life? It's possible, but I'm not sure. Anyways it was a stupid comment because it shouldnt influence his decision making at all if they are offering the best deal.
  5. No one batted an eye when Ted Lilly was injured and didn't play in 2009 and the Cubs didnt have anyone represented. Z certainly could have been selected to replace him.
  6. Cardinals *vomit* Not that it matters because I want the best return no matter what, but I'm not sure if Theo knows how much it would suck to see Dempster in a Cardinals uniform helping them push for a playoff spot.
  7. There's no way of us not not getting something not big for not the 24 other Cubs not named Dempster.
  8. you're gonna have to be more specific here.
  9. So Asik and Hinrich are the players we decide to throw money at and exceed the cap? Everyone's making moves around the league and in Chicago our big dilemma is if we're going to match Asiks offer sheet. Smh True we should have signed Deron Williams with our invisible cap space.
  10. What other stat evaluates how well a goaltender performs? It's not a perfect measurement, but it's the best one for a goalie. There has to be some sort of stat that measures goalie performance better than save %. It's like evaluating a pitcher on purely ERA. There are other variables that control his ability to prevent goals that I have a hard time using it anymore. Also, just wanted to point out sully's "he had 4 shutouts in 2011 alone" comment, 4 in 2011 and 1 in the rest of his entire playoff career. And the year he had 4 was the year where the Canucks goalie for game 7 of the SCF was in question until minutes before gametime.
  11. I prefaced all of my Dempster comments admitting they were wrong on irrational on my part. Now I have to see this ignorance every time Dempster has a good outing. Do you not think there is at least a tiny difference between this game (middle of the season on a team going nowhere) and the first game of the first round of the playoffs? I stand by my comments. He was at his worst when the pressure was at it's peak. It's ok, you'll never be known as the biggest dempster hater on this board. where is that gvillecub dude anyways?
  12. I would have been ok with it. Again, this would be securing talent using an advantage that won't be available from now on. The Cubs will spend less money on the draft starting this year, and spend less money internationally from now on, so if you have to overpay for talent, you do it now even if the risk is higher (than Soler). Interesting though. If true the Cubs went extremely hard at 3 Cuban prospects, and in 2 of the cases offered the most money, and ended up going 1 for 3.
  13. I clicked on this thread and scrolled down to the last post in this page to see if there was any news. I read only el duderino's post directly above this and my first thought was 'LLF'
  14. Hilarious because the way things are set up financially right now, they are all but certain to pay the tax next year regardless of whether they pick up Omer.
  15. On Doug Thonus' podcast today, he mentioned something interesting. He said that although CJ and Brewer's contracts must be decided upon before the moratorium is over, supposedly Korver's contract doesnt become guaranteed until some time in early January. So if that's true, theoretically you can bring Korver back and in January either release him, find a trade for him or guarantee him for the rest of the year. And as many know, the luxury tax doesnt get levied until the end of the season, and its about where you are at when the regular season is over. I think Doug is quite reliable and he doesnt really mention things he's heard second hand without confirming for himself, but it seems a little weird if this is true because I've heard absolutely no one else mention this. If its true, there is no reason to not bring Korver back at least to start the year.
  16. Not that I'm a big fan of the move but who would you have plugged in at PG instead with Rose out? I would have cleared cap space and transition to being sellers because this team has proved to be very afraid of the luxury tax and we clearly are waiting for Mirotic. Download the 07/05 interview on the Score with Aschburner. Free agents to this point have showed very little desire to come to Chicago. This team is going nowhere. Yes Free Agents don't want to come to Chicago when you have $3 million to spend and everyone else is offering more.
  17. Ugh. Fans calling into WGNs postgame show saying they don't want to trade Dempster among others because they are playing so well and think the Cubs can get back into the race this year. Unreal
  18. Why would a goalie who keeps getting benched in the middle of the playoffs every year make us Cup favorites? Last year he was benched after 2 playoff games and sat the last 3. The year before he was benched for game 6 of the 1st round against Chicago after getting yanked in the 2nd period the prior 2 games. Then he was yanked early in 2 Stanley Cup Final games including game 6 where he was yanked 8 minutes into the game. There was a big debate whether he would even start game 7 of the Finals. Don't get me wrong he's a great goaltender in the regular season but he consistently fails to perform like one of the best goaltenders in the NHL when it counts in the postseason. I don't think it's the best use of our resources at all.
  19. cooper seemed to be the guy who was down on him the most, but i think it has to do with the fact that they can't get over his rather ordinary history. he's come out of nowhere this season, and that, to a point, i think has baffled them. they don't know what to make of him so are in a holding pattern regarding his potential. Exactly....So far he has an entire career of under performing expectations and 2 months of raking it. I think the majority of these guys wrote off Vitters for good and are skeptical of his emergence. If he can finish the year hitting like this I think they will be back on the Vitters bandwagon.
  20. This is a good point. No one should overlook that because its huge. The fact that this slide coincides with a spike in his walk rate makes me think he's trying to adjust on the fly and be more patient.
  21. Remember when we were worried about how meatball Cubs fans would react if/when Rizzo didn't immediately live up to their sky high expectations? Nevermind.
  22. Talk to a lot of scouts? Only when they're selling cookies. You know that girl scouts aren't the same as baseball scouts right?
  23. Of course the hottest girl in the video is assigned to South Carolina
