  1. Because why not, Bill Barnwell analyzes the Lovie Smith firing:
  2. They might be the best conference by default, but somehow are still overrated
  3. Constable, want to give me a scouting report on NW so far this year? I am going to the game tonight...seems like they are a step down from last year, but I've learned to never feel comfortable with a road game in the B1G.
  4. the "wow" suggests that you're surprised. I didnt realize it was that bad. There have been some pretty consistently awful offensive teams out there since 2004. I would have guessed they would have been somewhere in the 24-28 range.
  5. Feeling a bond with someone that roots for the same school as you is fine, but feeling a bond with someone because they root for a school that has been arbitrarily grouped with yours just makes no sense to me. I think it has to do with the geographical area we share. Go anywhere in the midwest and they are watching Big Ten football on Saturdays. People are very provincial in this part of the country and cling to guns and religion what's familiar to them. Of course I might have a different experience living in Chicago which is a melting pot of Big Ten graduates.
  6. Lovie Smith would be such a Bills hire. I'm not saying its necessarily a bad fit, its just a boring vanilla coach joining a boring vanilla team. Edit: I wonder if any interviews he has are half-legit option and half Rooney rule.
  7. It's just an extension of Southern regionalism. I don't really feel that way for the most part. Other SEC teams losing could give my team a bump in a particular recruiting battle or something like that. Has nothing to do with the South. Might be prevalent there too but folks in the Midwest love the big ten. My older family are all Iowa fans but they pull for all big ten teams. Same with many of my friends and several posters here have expressed this sentiment. It's true, this is Big Ten country and most fans of Big Ten schools feel a bond with the other schools, even the ones we hate. Not sure how that will change with Maryland and Rutgers through. However, I don't root for Ohio State or Michigan State under any circumstances. I do kind of pull for Northwestern and Illinois except when they play Michigan, and the other Big Ten schools I'll root for under certain circumstances (like the NCAA Tourney if they haven't particularly annoyed me during conference play)
  8. Championship Holy crap does it annoy the hell out of me when people do this after minor moves. We can pretend it wasn't sarcasm and call it the most optimistic post he's ever made
  9. Kind of crazy that NW was 2 terribly blown 4th quarter leads at Happy Valley and Nebraska and an OT loss at Michigan from an undefeated season. They really should have won all 3 of those games.
  10. I think someone earlier was asking for a replay of the press conference. I saw this link on another forum: https://soundcloud.com/mgilmer/phil-emery-press-conference
  11. Wow didn't realize that the Bears are 31st in total offensive yards since Lovie took over in 2004.
  12. Oh well. Quite a disappointing year 2 for Hoke. Only major positives are (barely) beating MSU and beating NW. Would have really liked to have won at least 1 of the close losses to ND, Ohio St. or SC. Still quite high on the direction of the program and pleased at the performance today.
  13. Would be odd if we interviewed 2 ST coaches and one of them wasn't Toub.
  14. Anyone good coming out of this press conference?
  15. yay for probably ending the Bobcats losing streak....on your home floor no less. Looks like the Bulls took lessons from the Rex Grossman School of New Years Eve professionalism.
  16. Urlacher hated playing cover-2 LB in his career, maybe he feels his career can get a second wind by going into a system that asks him to do other things. like a 3-4?
  17. Let Devin retire, resign Johnny Knox to a minimum deal. Net upgrade
  18. lol I forgot Bob Babich was still a Bears coach.
  19. Yes because racism doesn't happen anymore. I know this was hypothetical but I like how people have turned a complaint about racism into an automatic unfounded complaint by an angry black person. You are right, that was a little ignorant on my part to stretch it to that. My apologies.
  20. You also have to remember that the reporters are surely bating the players for these comments and are posting ones that will get a reaction. This is their immediate reaction to negative news being caputured here. They are all professionals and will get over it quickly and move on.
  21. Haha, Devin is pissed that he will never be called a number 1 WR anymore. I'm surprised he didn't just go all the way and throw out the race card or something.
  22. That's bizarre Why, isn't that just a last chance for Lovie & coaches to talk with the team? It's weird that a GM would fire a head coach and then not have some member of the FO talk to the media about that decision. Weird that the players are going to talk about the coach being fired but not even a comment from the FO? I'm not saying they need a full fledged press conference on New Years eve to discuss, but I figured there would be some sort of comment to verify the decision.
  23. Da Coach is on now.....he's very disappointed that Lovie is gone
  24. Jack Dowling unexpectedly resigns. i love the effort you went through to make that joke
