  1. Umm cool....the next color guy should really enjoy working for this interesting team.
  2. Nah, I think even most Cutler haters think he's better than Campbell. Most, not all. I don't know, if Campell's brand of 1 read then check down with the occasional downfield throw worked really well against a stout defense, I would guess a decent portion of Cutler haters would at least be willing to discuss the issue. The theme of the discussion would be "Campbell is much better for the Bears in this offense" or something dumb like that.
  3. I was kind of hoping Smith would get the start. Between trying to contain Gore, Vernon Davis and the deer-like Kaepernick with the football, the LB's are gonna be real busy. While it's great to have Jeffery back for tonight, I'd sure like to see some plays get called Evan Rodriguez' way. You might be undervaluing Smith's value a little bit if you are wishing he played. He's been pretty damn good in the role he's played this year. Now I'm no 49er expert so excuse me if I say something dumb here, but as far as talent he's seems probably a slightly above average, but in the 49ers offense with the things they do, he's been great. 70% completion percentage (1st in NFL), 104.1 QBR (3rd), 13 TD, 5 INT, 7.98 YPA (tied for 2nd and 0.02 yards behind Peyton Manning for 1st). Now part of the reason he's so high in those rate stats is because they don't give him the reigns to the offense and let him go crazy. 192 yards per game is 29th among active QBs and below Jay Cutler, Matt Cassel, Mark Sanchez, Ryan Tannehill, etc. 217 PA this year is 31st in the NFL, 13 passing TD is 14th, etc. So he's not some superstud QB, but if he were playing and Gore was breaking runs and giving Smith opportunities to make smart decisions and compliment the run game, he'd be much more of a worry than Kaepernick.
  4. I agree. 1 game automatic (unless there's a bye week following the concussion) is a good rule to put in place. It takes away the temptation and guessing games. The only problem is that you are going to get players trying even harder to conceal concussions. In their minds, its hard enough to be forced to miss the rest of the game. I could be wrong on this, but I would think is easier for a Safety to hide a mild concussion from the team than it is for a QB. You'd hope a lot of players would care enough about their own safety to tell their coaches when they feel funny, but I don't many would if they could get away with it. I agree in principle this would be a good rule to implement though.
  5. I can't imagine that that's actually true. That was out there, but that had to have been a misdirection attempt. Why wouldn't the 49ers know that Smith wasn't going to play, or, at least, that it was very much in doubt? I read somewhere online that he wasn't able to get the neurologist to clear him to play. I'm guessing the 49ers were expecting him to play. If he really did get most of the practice reps this week, the Niners are going to get a lot of heat for seeminly rushing him back. But I don't know exactly how the protocol works. I believe he passed an initial concussion test earlier in the week so maybe they thought he was good to go. Maybe he was passed by their doctors and the independent neurologist wouldn't clear him. Either way its interesting.
  6. Nice. Hope Capernik(?) is a Caleb Hanie type.
  7. Yeah if there's one thing you never see, it's people taking random little shots at ND and its fans whether based in reality or not. How smug of those fans to respond. Take UMFan who has absolutely no idea what was discussed in last week's thread but pipes up to make up things to attribute to fans of "mighty" ND. No I have a pretty good idea. I just like riling the ND fans up by making intentionally obtuse comments because it makes the threads more entertaining.
  8. From reading last weeks thread, Alabama should be scared that they have to take on mighty Notre Dame.

    NFL Week 11

Welp, division lead on the line tomorrow (due to tiebreakers)
  10. And yet bullpens are a crapshoot so it doesn't really make sense to spend very much money there
  11. Why would they give up LAX? Since there's no Big Ten for lacrosse, can't they just go independent?
  12. I'm shocked that the 2 ND fans are arguing against things like the Sagrin rating and SOS and all the other statistical data TT and others posted in order to prove that ND won't get blasted by Alabama
  13. lol, glad the Bulls had 2 days off between games. Nice Taj :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=olbJETQbBjU
  14. You can't criticize SEC schedules and then pretend like the ACC is competent or FSU has a hard schedule. Their only good win is against a Clemson team that hasn't beaten anyone good. I'm not criticizing their schedules as much as I am pointing out that these top 10 SEC teams are struggling against these scrub teams.
  15. Also, SEC top 10 teams everyone! (5) Georgia 10, Georgia Southern 7, 5:00 left 2nd quarter (6) Florida 10, Jacksonville St. 0, Halftime (9) South Carolina 7, Woffard 7, 12:00 left 3rd quarter ok Alabama is beating their scrub 49-0 but whatever, that's terrible Meanwhile... 1 loss (10) Florida State 41, Maryland 7 Not that Maryland is some juggernaut but they aren't Georgia Southern either
  16. As fun as this is, seeing this pretty much takes away my last bit of hope that Nebraska can lose again to get UM in the Big Ten title game.
  17. - Those years also correlate with his prime - I'm not convinced that PEDs make up some huge difference in his performance - He doesn't have to be a 4-5 WAR all-star to be a nice deal for what the Jays just signed him to. It's just odd...I don't remember anyone giving him much hype coming into the bigs...in 4 seasons with the Yankees he had one pretty good season (his first) a couple of somewhat decent ones, bounced around with a year on the Braves, where he was below replacement, then went to the Royals and was suddenly a 4 win player, then to the Giants where he was on pace to be a 6-6.5 win player. Makes sense that his best years correlate with his prime of course, but its odd to see him have a below replacement level year in 2010, then all the sudden he's a 4 win player then a 6 win player. Then in the middle of the 6 win season he's busted for PEDs. You could be right that they don't make up a huge difference, who knows. But when you have a .373 slugging percentage the first 5 seasons in the bigs, and then suddenly become a .490 SLG player and test positive for performance enhancing drugs, it is probably at least debatable. Lastly, the previous paragraph is pointless because I agree its a nice deal and he doesn't have to be a 4 win player for it to still be a nice deal.
  18. Cutler has officially been ruled out for Mondays game per the Score. Shea will be out as well.
  19. Looks like the only Cub to receive any sort of votes for any postseason award was Alfonso Soriano receiving 8 voting points for MVP.
  20. Four years ago, IU lost at home to something called Lipscomb. IU has improved, a bit, since then. So I should look forward to DePaul being the preseason #1 in a few years?
  21. So DePaul got blown out at home by Gardner-Webb by 13...yes Gardner-Webb. If that's not bad enough, Gardner-Webb played LAST NIGHT in NC and lost to something called Lipscomb. Want worse? Gardner-Webb was missing their 2 best players. Oliver Prunell might be in trouble...so much for the program builder

    NFL Week 11

Thursday Night Football is the best....a 4-5 team vs. a 3-6 team, no offensive touchdowns scored, 4 FGs, sloppy special teams. Gotta love it.
  23. Why arent these the kind of reported deals that get debunked hours later?
  24. Well, I don't know how much pushing Navarro is going to do. Probably could have spent 750K and gotten a better option to perform well in spring training. Unless he means they need him to literally push Castillo, and if so the Navarro is the man for the job, but still not worth 1.75M
  25. Brewer was hot to start the season last year too. I have little doubt that'll cool off. Yeah there was a Knicks troll that started a thread on the Bulls RealGM board a week ago thanking us for letting Brewer go and bragging about his hot start, and I reminded him that Brewer started out on fire last year as well and ended up shooting like 18% from 3 the rest of the year after shooting 60% in his first 7-8 games.
