So I have twins, and thats exactly how my other 10 year old is. That's the kind of sports fandom that I think is a lot more healthy. Knows whats going on, happy when they win, but doesn't let the performance of random people affect his mood. If they lose he just does something else. If they win he enjoys it, just not as much as my other 10 year old. -
Yeah there's definitely a talent gap. You just hope your bats are hot going into the postseason and you can make a run similar to the 2023 DBacks. But it really all depends on what pitching is here and healthy come September/October

Thats a really nice message. Yes I have enjoyed him getting into it and it's always fun when he shocks me by knowing things I wouldn't expect him to know. Heck he even keeps me optimistic as he calls me out if I say something remotely negative lol. But yeah there's been some really fun memories already. When DJ Moore caught the TD to beat the Packers it was like Xmas morning times 10 for him. Similar when PCA hit the game tying HR against the Reds. Just need to manage the highs and the lows so there is a floor and a ceiling.

I actually thought about this, it's not the worst thing in the world for him to experience this. I tried explaining that a baseball season is full of peaks and valleys but he watched the team win almost every game for a month with several improbable comebacks, he started to think it was just going to keep happening. You don't quite understand how a baseball season works until you experience it.

I still think the Cubs will be fine to be honest. They focused on leadership in the clubhouse and that will keep the team together. Collectively the hitters all have long track records to suggest they won't keep hitting .150 the rest of the year. This is a particularly bad slump but like all slumps, one they'll find their way out of. The concern for me remains the pitching due to the injuries.

I wish I didnt get my kids into sports. One of my 10 year olds has been in a gloom for several days and I suspect the Cubs have at least a little to do with it. He is constantly optimistic, even in the 9th inning down 5 he'll predict they win, but the last few games he's given up hope. I know when I pick him up from school in 30 mins hes going to immediately ask the score its its going to ruin his mood when I tell him. I really didn't try to get him hooked on sports, he just got swept up in the excitement of the playoffs last year and then the Bears season and when the Cubs got hot to start this year he became very attached.

Nah not even a decent start for him. I would say 7 of his 9 previous starts were better than this one.

I'd say 3 runs is not insurmountable but they've only surmounted 3 runs in a game twice in their last 12 games.

Completely forgot the Cubs were playing. Looks like they came back refreshed after the day off lol. Still 12-10 in our last 22 if we lose this!

Nothing like watching a fanbase slowly implode during a losing streak. Suddenly the team that was 27-12 2 weeks ago has 26 terrible players who are complacent and don’t have a winning mentality. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have any concern but it’s just interesting to watch segments of the fanbase completely turn on everyone after a bad 11 game stretch.

Horrible luck lately

I've been guilty of this many times in the past, but its crazy to me how many times we can experience the peaks and valleys of a baseball season and still not be able to ride out the bat stretches without being irrational. Maybe this is an 85 Cubs situation and the Cubs just fall apart. But based on the 35+ baseball seasons I've watched, I can tell you its more likely a bad stretch than a team that started 27-12 suddenly turning into a bad team overnight.

As I said above, there is no doubt they have been the better organization over the past decade, and the past 5 years. The Cubs do a lot well as an organization, but obviously have issues as well and their spending advantage thus far hasn't been enough to erase those issues. Right now? I think the Cubs are very close to the Brewers. It's probably a difficult time to have that discussion when the Brewers are on a 10-2 run while the Cubs are on a 2-8 run and the Brewers just beat the Cubs at Wrigley twice in a row. It's a long season with many more peaks and valleys, we'll see how it plays out.

Well to be fair any 5 game sample, heck even the 20 game sample between the Cubs and Brewers with each team going 10-10 isn't enough to tell who is conclusively the better team. So yeah in that respect it doesn't tell us much. But those are the only datapoints we had. The Cubs played 170 baseball games last year and went 96-76. The Brewers played 171 baseball games last year and went 100-71. The teams went 10-10 against each other and the Brewers won a playoff series 3 games to 2 with the home team winning all 5 games. I don't think the Brewers are significantly better than the Cubs. As an organization they have been better the last decade, absolutely. It's extremely impressive what they have done and continue to do. But I don't believe the Brewers and Cubs of 2025 and 2026 are separated by much on the field, especially at full strength which the Cubs have never been and never will be.

The Brewers did in the deciding game in Milwaukee by a 3-1 score. Not like it was a sweep that conclusively showed who was better. The Brewers are probably better given the Cubs pitching injuries that aren’t going to get better anytime soon but trying not to overreact to a bad stretch as every season is a roller coaster

Cubs will be 12-11 in their last 23 games if they drop this. Treading water in the weirdest way possible. Also with the Cardinals winning, if the scores hold the Cubs will be in 3rd place by percentage points at the end of the night. Good thing it’s still mid May

The two 10 game win streaks really threw me off. I just remembered it's May freaking 18th. No need to get worked up over a bad stretch at this point.

Game was probably toast anyways and he was probably trying to get more innings out of him tonight since our pen is extremely thin right now. There are holes popping up everywhere right now.
