I mean we lost a game to the Diamondbacks. Probably won’t catch us (said that in 2023 too when they started beating us) but could have really put them away tonight. Long recent history of painful losses in this stupid park

All I can think about is my kid going to sleep when it was 4-0 in the 8th. First thing he’s going to do in the morning is check the score and start his day off with a gut punch.

I don’t mind putting Palencia in, with a 4 run lead it’s not an awful time. Obviously started out poorly but gave up the flukiest check swing double and a soft single up the middle. I might have pulled him before that last single but I don’t hate the decision.

Cubs are 2-3 on the road trip but have outscored their opponents 39-18

Brewers and Phillies both lost, Diamondbacks were obviously an out from losing. Massive blown opportunity to gain ground.

If you can’t hold a 4 run lead in the 8th or a 2 run lead with no one on and 2 outs in the 9th you have some horsefeathers to figure out

Once again the Cubs carry over their challenges for next game

I was sort of half watching expecting the Cubs to finish it off until I saw Palencia in the game and immediately got nervous. Nothing against Palencia, the Palencia of 2025 is going to be needed if we want this season to go anywhere and if you can’t put him in a 4 run game when can you put him in. But he always makes me a little nervous and a pitcher coming off an extended IL stint always makes me nervous too. Sure enough, gotta sweat this one out

The Cubs should just win all their games against the Diamondbacks and Brewers and see where it takes us.

This series is giving too many 2023 late season vibes. I'm still scared from going 1-6 against them down the stretch allowing them to make the playoffs over us by 1 game and then them going to the World Series.

The Phillies park in particular scares me. It feels like we never play well there (I know we went 2-1 there this year but they were playing terrible baseball at that point and the one they won was a beatdown), the park is historically a bandbox that allows a lot of HRs and their crowds can give them a pretty strong HFA. Every AB against Schwarber is going to be absolutely terrifying (though that will be the case at Wrigley too, Babe Schwarber doesn't care about the wind) If we were looking at a series in like San Diego or Atlanta, I'd feel better about having to play on the road.

Fun fact: all of the 5 HRs hit today would have been HRs at 12 or more parks. None of them would have been HRs at Wrigley Field

Speaking of the Little League classic, they just announced the Cubs and Jays will be playing in it next year. First time since I think 2018 for the Cubs. All I remember about that was Anthony Rizzo sliding down a hill on cardboard.
