  1. If we lose we lose, whatever. 92 wins, won a playoff game, hobbled into the playoffs with arguably our 2 best starters (Steele and Horton) out and our best hitter banged up and only recently returned and doesn't seem fully locked in yet. Of course that's loser talk, just win, etc. Just saying I might be upset in the immediate aftermath but overall I won't be anywhere near as disappointed as I was after past playoff eliminations.
  2. We're the outlier in that we won at home in Game 1 and lost at home in game 2. Though the Reds are currently beating the Dodgers so...
  3. Welp so much for the "almost every WC series is a sweep" stat. Hopefully the Dodgers win tonight so the game is at least a little later in the day
  4. Butterfly effect. Who knows the mindset the Cubs take down 1 run where 1 swing can tie it vs down 3 runs which seems much more daunting. I hear you that it’s less important than the fact that the Cubs offense couldn’t do anything but the HR changed the rest of the game, particularly how the Padres deployed their pen
  5. Not sure how you can assume the division will be won with 90 games. Some years it might, other years it might take 100 wins. And there’s less wiggle room if you don’t aim to win 95 games. I think the 6 team format is incentivizing teams to build 85ish win teams.
  6. I just hate this entire round. I'd rather it go 1 game and be done with it.
  7. Yeah but Soroka got 2 outs today and Willi Castro...looked good sitting on the bench?
  8. I'm not saying this because we won game 1 and lost game 2 but the MLB should just make all the WC rounds single elimination. I didn't like the WC game, but I like this even less. Go back to 4 playoff teams per league (I know that will never happen)
  9. Just saying I'd rather not have the wind blowing out when we're starting an extreme fly ball pitcher.
  10. Taillon is 2nd to only Shota in GB% and HR/9 this season on the Cubs and they're actually closer than you'd think
  11. 1 pitch from at least having the tying run up. I dont feel great about tomorrow but I'm also a pessimist so dont listen to me.
  12. It's not conceding, it's balancing the likelihood of a 9th inning comeback against an elite pitcher down 3 runs when the offense has done nothing vs. having arms available in tomorrow's game where the score starts 0-0 and you have to burn 9 innings. There's no reason Rea couldn't have gotten the last 2 outs of that inning IMO.
  13. Actually thought about including that but since the results were better its forgotten. That one 9-8 win in game 5 against Washington had a ton of unusual runs scored including on a catchers interference and reaching on dropped 3rd strike.
  14. So confused why we're using Soroka here and Rea. I know he won't likely throw a lot of pitches but doesn't make sense to burn them here down 3 with an inning to go and no offense all day.
  15. Of course leaping catch to rob him of extra bases and a chance to bring the tying run up
  16. Can someone more versed in Padres pen tell me which high leverage arms are in good shape tomorrow if Suarez finishes this game? Really just Miller and Morejon that are limited since Suarez didnt pitch yesterday right?
  17. Was it Kyle that used to obsess about how the Cubs would always get eliminated losing 3 straight games without any offense? Obviously they can win tomorrow but the offense feels a lot like 2007, 2008, 2018 and 2020 when it just feels like it's impossible for the Cubs to string 2 hits together much less a run. They definitely found a way to get 3 yesterday but today is rough and hopeless feeling.
  18. Of course. Line drive up the middle caught earlier in the game, deflection right to 1B this time
  19. Yeah, Boyd would be on regular rest if Game 2 was on a Sunday but definitely fine with an extra day of rest. Blah blah blah yeah I know get there first lol
  20. I'm just curious. Guessing Assad would be the choice, especially if Soroka goes multiple innings tomorrow. But the Cubs are gonna put up 4 this inning anyways.
  21. With Rea going today and Taillon going tomorrow barring a comeback, not sure who starts game 1 against Milwaukee. I mean yeah get there first but Assad? Soroka?
  22. While true, Jed should have anticipated Boyd and/or Horton wearing down after greatly exceeded their innings from previous years.
