This makes no [expletive] sense If you have a good team, the discussion is about the players that actually contribute on a daily basis. We're discussing which of 4-5 candidates ought to sitting on the end of the bench or DFAd. The fact that you are discussing who is the best fit for the end of the bench in no way shape for form indicates your team is bad. If your team was good and the starters were mostly settled then it would make perfect sense to focus on bench spots, seeing as how that is the way you can find the marginal improvement that matters to teams in contention. "Bench spots" is different from the 25th guy on a roster. If a team is a good team and in contention with settled starters, then 2-3 of the non-pitching bench players might play a serious role making a marginal improvement in helping the team. The 25th player is emergency filler for most teams. No it's not. Unless you are referring to a mop up man or long reliever. In that case Lillibridge isn't the 25th man. If you are referring to the bench most teams keep 4-5 bench guys usually a backup catcher, 2 backup IFs and 2 backup OFs. They are necessary to give the team a number of things including: defensive subs, positional versatility, the ability to hit lefties/righties for key situations, power option, pinch running, potential platoon partner, potential DH during interleague play. Those 4-5 bench spots make a big difference and fans of every team have a legit reason to worry about them.

:roll: I just don't like it... when one of our players gets robbed of a hit or something and he shows excitement about it, it pisses me off. I think there's a very slight tone difference in his voice. He gets excited but more of a 'wow what a great play' excited than a 'this benefits the Cubs' excited. I could be insane though. There are definitely broadcasters that get more excited for the opponent's big plays (cant think of a specific example but I've heard them), and then on the other side of the equation there's Hawk going mute for minutes on end whenever the White Sox give up a run.

This made me laugh because a) I totally know the voice you are referring to and b) Pat seems so wholesome its hilarious to think of him taking pleasure in losing

*looks out the window*. Where is that rain? Guess its about an hour away. Freezing wind chills notwithstanding we could have gotten in 6 innings tonight.

With the season winding down and the Hawks looking like they are going to be the 1 seed, or 2 seed at worst, who does everyone want to see in the 1st round? If the season ended today, the Hawks would be playing the Wings in the first round. Historical rivalry juju notwithstanding, I think they would be who I'd want to see. Detroit has been inconsistent, and while the first 2 games against them were decided in OT/SO, I feel like the Hawks outplayed them in all 3 games. Other possible opponents include: 6. St. Louis (46 points in 38 games. Hawks 2-0-1) - Have been a bit of a disappointment but still very good team, would prefer not to play them. 7. Minnesota (46 points in 39 games. Hawks 2-0-1) - I'd be fine playing them, but they do have a lot of talent. 8. Detroit (43 points in 39 games. Hawks 3-0-0) 9. Dallas (41 points in 39 games. Hawks 2-0-0) - I'd be ok with playing them. 10. Columbus (41 points in 40 games. Hawks 4-0-0) - Hawks played 4 close games against them, they got better at the deadline, we'd win but I think it would be a tough series. 11. Phoenix (40 points in 39 games. Hawks 2-0-0) - Probably not, just because I'm scared Smith would stand on his head all series again. 12. Edmonton (39 points in 39 games. Hawks 1-1-0) - Would rather not, they've had some great games against us the last 2 years although our depth and offensive fire power would win us the series. Put me down for Detroit, Dallas, or Minnesota in that order. Either way, Hawks are 16-1-2 against potential 1st round opponents
