  2. PFF says that the Bears BY FAR had the least amount of production from their rookies in the league this year. It sounds like the main reason for that is that they had lower round and undrafted players playing big roles for the team due to injuries. Bucaneers (-46.2) were 2nd worst, and Patriots (-38.7) were 3rd. Best 3 were Arizona (+34.3), Detroit (+30.0) and Carolina (+21.2) http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10306488/teams-most-least-production-2013-draft-picks-nfl
  3. I've watched a lot of Hawks this year but I can't say I've been particularly pumped up for any game since the opener. This 3 game stretch (vs. Anaheim, vs. Boston, @ Detroit) has me really pumped up. One is against the hottest and best team in the league (by record), one is a SCF rematch, one is our historical rival who we only see twice a year now. I think we will see an elevation in play and intensity. I am hoping for at least 2 W's!
  4. Deny what rumors? Everyone knows the Cubs really really want him. There's nothing to deny there.
  5. That is mind boggling
  6. I heard that. It's pretty much word for word.
  7. I'm sure Tanaka was prepped on the Cubs meeting by being told Theo/Jed are 2 of the smartest baseball minds out there. I'm sure Theo/Jed did a great job of explaining in detail why they've made the decisions they have, why that's translated into a poor record the last 2+ seasons, where they are now, and why they are likely to be a contender sooner than later. I guess it all depends on whether Tanaka believes in the Cubs FO and what they are doing, or going with a team that's more of a sure thing to win immediately. (assuming the top offers are similar)
  8. Arriving tonight. Speaking purely as a fan, I'm not expecting some earth-shattering announcement at the Convention. I still enjoy the panel discussions, though - at least when folks ask meaningful questions. Nice. Looking forward to the blogging/Tweeting from the convention. Seriously... thanks for what you do. Your site has become one of that rotation of 5 or 6 that I re-open like 20x a day. Agreed. Best Cubs blog on the internet by far.
  9. Were you not around enough during the Brian Roberts/Jake Peavy sagas?
  10. I don't read into fluff but am hopeful at least. If Olt can get back on track to where he was in 2011-2012, things are suddenly looking really good.
  11. Not only does he not get fired like pretty much everyone predicted prior to the season, but he gets job security.
  12. If it's true, I'd guess it's being announced at the convention. I'm going with them saving the Tanaka announcement til the convention. That's my story, and you can all pat me on my back when it's true. Or point and laugh when it's not. I doubt it. Considering they have a deadline next week, I'm assuming they are going to give the interested teams all the time they need to negotiate and submit their best bid.
  13. What? If given a choice to move to a place like LA or New York, athletes will rarely choose Chicago. It's why I think it's hilarious that the Bulls are actually trying to clear cap space to lure big time free agents again. It won't work. The last time a Chicago team was able to lure a big time free agent (Soriano), we had to blow every other team out of the water in terms of dollars and years. Peppers could be considered a major free agent, but I have no idea what his market was like. I disagree. Players frequently come to Chicago in baseball, football and hockey. Basketball is much more superstar oriented and is also a winter sport, and because of that stars want to play in glamorous locations like LA, Florida, New York. I'm trying to even think of major FAs that the Cubs and Sox have aggressively went after. Albert Belle?
  14. Sesmic? Is Billy Joel putting on weight again?
  15. Will one of you guys spill the beans if its a month from now and its clear whatever the news is isnt happening?
  16. Probably, but with the Nets and Knicks starting to actually play well and the Bulls with the 2nd toughest schedule remaining among Eastern Conference teams, a backslide wouldn't completely shock me. I'd put their odds at about 85%.
  17. As a counterpoint, one would think you could pretty easily point to the Dominican Academy, the spending to penalties in IFA and up to penalties in the draft, the growth in headcount in the FO, the Bloomberg tech they're licensing for video, etc. I honestly have no idea what Passan is talking about if he's not talking about MLB payroll. Well the comment was that they aren't getting the budget they expected. So while the Cubs are spending in those areas, perhaps the FO was led to believe the budget was even higher than what they have?
  18. Quasi-Bears related: Failed 3rd round pick Brandon Hardin signed with the Jets it looks like.
  19. I really wish Kyle would have held out on Tim for something good. We could have FDB with this news.
  20. I think people that are freaking out are bored of the regular season and are finding ways to emotionally connect with it.
  21. Can't we just get rid of the point after a tie in regulation? How would that effect things? I hate watching the last 5-6 minutes of intraconference games that are tied. Not that they are halfassing it but both teams are taking absolutely no risks and playing everything safe to preserve the guaranteed point.
  22. Interesting. Things have been really quiet on the Wrigley renovation front. What if they have been secretly looking over other sites and have decided to go that way. ok ok unlikely, but what kind of enormous news could there really be that doesn't involve a player move and that would shock us.
