    I dunno, give them a new stadium downtown and an owner that isn't actively sabotaging them and they might do well. Sternberg is actively sabotaging them? I could only conclude that he meant loria and the expos Yeah. Tangled implied that the the Rays would sell less tickets in Montreal than Tampa, which I'm assuming he is basing on the Expos tenure in Montreal. I don't think bringing the MLB back to Montreal is a slam dunk waiting to happen but I think they have a lot more upside than Tampa ever wll if they get a new stadium (obviously a prerequisite) and an owner that is better than Loria (sternberg by default is better than loria). Maybe moving to Portland would be better...that city seems to support its teams, but it's hard to look past the extra 1.6 million people in Montreal's metro.

    I dunno, give them a new stadium downtown and an owner that isn't actively sabotaging them and they might do well. Montreal is the largest US/Canadian metro area without an MLB team currently (unless you count Riverside/San Bernardino but to me thats LA), and its not even close (next largest US/Canadian metro w/o a team is Vancouver 3.8 mil vs. 2.3 mil, next largest US metro w/o a team is Portland at 2.2 mil).

    Though they continue to cherish their independence, I wonder if this would lead ND to consider a conference. As of now, theoretically, there could be 4 teams in the playoff that aren't conference winners (extremely unlikely, I know), but that number goes down to 3 with this potential format and, more importantly, guarantees the conference champ a spot. I don't think they would join, but you never know. Chance at a guaranteed spot for joining the B1G or ACC might make it more appealing. I'm sure they would make some sort of ND rule like they did for the BCS, like if ND is in the top 8 of their rankings they have to be picked.

    Exactly. I don't know if it will work, but could it get worse than it is right now? In 25% of their games this year, the opponent has punted 1 time or less. That's inexcusable, injuries or not.

    I actually spent 20 minutes this morning trying to figure out if the Bears had any shot of making the playoffs at 9-7 (requiring a 6-2 finish). The answer is probably not, but we do have 2 feathers in our cap: 1) Hold the tiebreaker over San Francisco 2) Only 2 conference losses Basically the teams fighting for the 2 WC spots are East loser (between 6-1 Dallas and 5-2 Philly), North loser (between 6-2 Detroit and 5-3 GB), and West losers (Between 7-1 Arizona, 4-3 Seattle and 4-3 San Francisco) The only way I see a shot is if 1) Detroit has their annual second half collapse and is swept by Chicago, 2) San Francisco's year from hell continues and they finish 9-7, 3) Dallas comes back to earth starting tonight and loses to Chicago head to head

    Wouldn't really make much sense, or difference, to do that mid-season. I don't agree. It MIGHT not make a difference, but it very well could. Just a different voice leading the defense, calling the plays/schemes. It couldn't hurt if that's going to be the end result anyway. Yep. Addition by subtraction. Can't really be worse. Are there any good examples of coordinators being fired midseason leading to that unit being turned around immediately? Just curious, I swear I heard someone on the radio mention an example yesterday but I remember who it was. Edit: Just real quick searching found that the Ravens fired OC Cam Cameron in DECEMBER of 2012, replaced him with Jim Caldwell, and they won the Super Bowl 2 months later when Flacco went nuts.

    Phil's comment about Jay's fundamentals and how to fix them was the best. It started out with something like "When Jay developed as a QB, he knew he was the best at high level all the way through college. Sometimes you can develop bad habits and can get by with them like Jay did...." He did go on to say its been proven that his fundamentals have gotten better the last 2 years but still has work to do, but the way he started his answer seemed to imply that, after 9 seasons, he can still be fixed.

    Also apparently, the Pats offensive line got the best grade they've given out all season to an offensive line. Go Bears?

    PFF gave Brady an 8.9 rating yesterday, which is the 9th highest they've given out to a QB since they started doing this in 2007. Roethlisberger got a 10.9 rating, which is 2nd highest.

    2-0 in primetime night games. (Don't respond with Jay Cutler's record against Green Bay.) But....diabetes...night time...umm Maybe we can get Josh McCown back for this one and move Shea back to pass rusher.

    Oh yay a night game to showcase our ineptitude! I guess its a positive that we'll be coming off our bye week, but so will Green Bay. I don't have any analysis of the game. Maybe we win and temporarily save our season, but more likely we lose. Anyways, I started this early to discuss things during the bye week, starting with the Emery press conference at 12:30 PM today (10/27)

    This Darling dude is really tall. Normally I can't tell who is in goal by seeing them during the broadcast but this dude has an imposing presence in net. Playing pretty good today too.

    I didn't see much discussion about this and I was watching at a bar so I didn't hear them mention anything but was Tom Brady over the LOS on that 3rd and 18 conversion at the end of the first half? It sure looked close to me. I know Brady smartly rushed them them to the line and snapped it before a challenge, but I'm surprised there were no replays or discussion of it. If he was over the line, that's a big play. Instead of 24-7 it's only 20-7 and maybe the team doesn't make the mistakes they made at the end of the half. I know the Bears played absolutely terrible and deserved to get blown out but there was a crapload of bad breaks for the Bears in that one.
