    I find it funny that the 4 team CFP almost certainly would have had their first 2 loss team(s) ever selected if the format didnt change to 12 teams. And that only 1 of the 4 remaining teams has less than 2 losses. And none of them won their conference championship.

    Fair point. But you can also chalk that up to standard Chicago Bears organizational incompetence. I’m sure any GM has to get ownership approval to fire a coach in the middle of their contract. Some franchises that empower their football operation departments might just meet to get the rubber stamp, and others need to explain the justification. All I’m saying is no one has ever reported (that I’m aware of) that the McCaskeys had a stated rule to not fire a coach midseason. I can’t remember this ever even being mentioned as a thing prior to Trestman. When he wasn’t fired midseason despite the team completely falling apart and largely tuning him out, it was assumed this meant the Bears won’t fire a coach midseason. Anyways, semantics I guess.

    Either Penn State or Notre Dame is going to be in the championship game. That seems wild to me for some reason.

    I don't get why people act like firing a coach mid-season was some iron clad rule the McCaskeys had and Poles and Warren had to move heaven and Earth to make it happen. I would assume a vast majority of coaches are fired after a season. The Bears probably preferred to not fire a coach in the middle of a season, but there is no evidence that ownership was completely against it either. Not picking on you, its just something I've seen written about so much and I don't recall there ever being actual reporting that the McCaskeys are against firing coaches midseason.

    Michigan has a better defense that they've showed at times this year but I really think Michigan is just in their heads. There is no other explanation for a Michigan team that has no quarterback winning on the road against a team that spent $20m on NIL to bring in top tier talent into a team that was already one of the 3-4 most talented teams in college football. It still doesn't make sense to me that Michigan won that game, but I'll take it. It looks like OSU is going to rampage their way to the title and honestly whatever. I don't want them to of course but if there was ever a year to handle an OSU natty its in a year where Michigan beat them on their field a season after winning their own national title and are bringing in their best recruiting class in several years. I can live with it.

    I definitely think the Hail Mary and the resulting fallout had a dramatic effect on the season. It's very difficult to quantify how it changed the season because the team still had holes, a promising but inconsistent young QB, a dumbass coach and an extremely difficult schedule but I find it very difficult to believe that they lose those next 2 games after the exciting comeback win against Washington. Credit to them they bounced back and played tough in the first 3 division games, in a strong position to win all 3, but they lost all of them and at that point the season was unsalvageable and the team fell apart.

    It’s just one metric measuring sacks and accuracy. It’s not saying he’s as good or productive as Zach Wilson outside of that. Clearly Caleb Williams has shown he is better than many of the QBs he is worse than on this chart. but you’re right though that this season can’t end quickly enough. Maybe it’s twitters wonky algorithms but the anti-Caleb faction has showed up in full force including the pro-Fields faction showing back up in full force. Unless Caleb has a ridiculous game next week, it’s gonna be a long offseason of Caleb hot takes.

    Yeah I see a couple of Lamar Jackson years, Aaron Rodgers his last year with the Packers and Hurts in 2022 . Obviously Lamar is unique with his legs and they are all really close to the center whereas Caleb is a massive outlier. Hopefully Caleb can work on his footwork and throwing motion or whatever he needs to get his accuracy more normal but out of everything I’ve seen from him this year that has been the most concerning for me. I didn’t watch a ton of college film but I can’t imagine he’d be considered a generational prospect as he was if he was this inaccurate on basic throws in college. What happened to him this year?

    Yep theres 32 of these jobs and nearly all of them are not a complete disaster of an organization as the Bears top to bottom. Other than some defense driven Lovie years this franchise has been a complete disaster for 30+ years. They are an incompetent organization and it’s gonna be really really difficult selling the hottest coaching candidate who already turned down multiple potential HC positions last year that we’re somehow fixed while having the same owner who is responsible for those 30 years of losing. Heck the Lovie Bears were the only time in the last 30 years where the Bears were at all relevant and they fired him after a 10-6 season to hire a CFL coach who was on absolutely no one’s radar. We’ve only had 1 winning season in the 12 years since that firing. I honestly don’t think Johnson is coming here and TBH I don’t even think the Bears will have him as their top choice. They’re just that broken. They’ll hire some stiff because he is a “leader of men” and Johnson will join a long list of coaches the Bears could have hired but didn’t even try that hard for. Similar to guys like Kevin O’Connell and Bruce Arians.

    Obviously a little different since by all accounts the Yankees made a massive offer to keep him but I could totally see the Cubs making it to the NLCS and only making enough of an effort to extend him to make it seem like they tried.

    They'll definitely try to resign him but I wouldn't be shocked if Jed made the trade knowing that they had maybe a 20% chance of actually getting something done. Jed needs to make the playoffs next year, with a limited budget he needed to get creative to get a star on a relatively cheap contract. It was a fairly steep cost in prospects for 1 year of superstar play but based on budget limitations it was an efficient way to get a 5 WAR player for $20m. Or maybe I'm just way too cynical.

    Can someone explain why “all Caleb does is get garbage time stats” is now the main talking point around him? Heck I might have even pushed that theory at one point but if you look at the Bears schedule, only 5 losses were blowouts (Arizona, NE, SF, Min, Det) and Caleb only really played particularly well in the Detroit game. Sure there were games where the Bears were down big and ended up close because Caleb put up big numbers but they weren’t like Indiana putting up 2 TDs against ND in the last few mins. Maybe the Colts game was but the Washington game literally gave them the lead, GB game he literally led them to a game winning FG attempt, Minnesota game he led them to OT, at Detroit he got them into FG range at the end down 3. Those were big time moments. I think the narrative is more like Caleb has needed time, in some cases significant time, to get going in games but once he gets in a rhythm he plays better. And the Bears are usually losing those games because he is so off to start games. I like to figure out why he starts so slow but that’s not exactly garbage time play.

    Haha thats hilarious. I'm assuming you are posting this quote because of the ridiculousness of playing the nobody believed in us card while 13-17? In many ways this is the most fitting Bulls season. Good enough to lose our 1st round pick this year (assuming it falls outside the top 10) but not good enough to be at all entertaining or have anything that might give fans any hope for the future.
