So Montero and Ross have combined for 272 PA at catcher, Ross making 70 of them, or 26% of the PA between the two. Is that normal for a backup catcher? Just seems like he's playing more, but I guess if you figure Ross is guaranteed to catch ever Lester start, thats 20% right there.

This move saves very little from what the cap situation was a day ago. People factored in ~4m for saad and they took back players. right but like you said they took back players. So for Saad's 4 million they have 3 guys making about 5 million to fill roster spots. Filled 2 roster spots for a million and one of those roster spots is a legit top 2 line center

Is that true? They took back like 5 million in salary on the trade, or roughly what Saad would have made. Of course they got at least 2 probably 3 players that will fill up that space but I think they might still need to get rid of Sharp and/or Bickell still. This does open up the possibility of bringing back someone like Oduya, Richards or maybe even Vermette, no?

I'm calming down but dammit I liked Saad a little too much to be happy right now. CBJ fan reaction seems to be very happy but wishing they didnt have to give up Dano.

Is this really better than picks? Everyone is saying this Dano was the key to the deal. Late first round pick in 2013, had 8 G and 13 assists as a center in 35 games. Only 20. So I guess he was playing pretty close to Saad's pace (Saad had 52 points, Dano was on pace for 49) and at a more premium position.

I'm guessing they couldn't get rid of Sharp's salary. And when Saad wouldn't go for the bridge deal, salary cap hell bit them in the ass. Players in order of "you have to absolutely [expletive] keep them" I'd go Toews, Kane, Keith, Hammer, then Saad. Unless signing him for 6.5m was going to cost you one of those 4, I would have resigned him. But I could be thinking irrationally right now. 6.5m is a lot. But if he signs for 6.5m, there had to be someone willing to eat at least $3.5m of Sharps number. I don't care if its a straight salary dump, you do that deal, Saad would be making close to what Sharp was making only he's like 24 and is already more productive than a 34 year old Sharp is. Oops sorry Saad is only 22, even worse

There's reports Saad was asking for 6 years at 6.5m AAV. I still keep him for that amount

I'm really [expletive] pissed. Really [expletive] upset. Really [expletive] confused. Seriously? To keep Patrick Sharp? A more expensive older player? I haven't felt angry about the Blackhawks in awhile, this will take some getting used to. Holy hell

I never had much of a problem with Lidstrom other than being a rival but i might be missing some sort of incident in the dark ages that I blocked out of my mind. He was a damn good player. And Pronger...well hated him back in St Louis but I kind of respect him at the same time. His ability to get in opponents heads and also deflect attention away from his teammates was second to none

Zawaski is reporting that the Hawks were offering Saad 2 years at $2.8m AAV and trying to sell him on playing for cheap for 2 years then getting a much bigger deal. Saads camp is said to be asking for 4 years at $4m AAV. If I am the Hawks I [expletive] accept that offer before Wednesday when some team will offer him at the very least 5/25. His wording was unclear but he made it seem like he heard the Hawks chances of keeping Saad were 50/50 which I think is insane and false(and he says basically the same thing)

What is the difference between 24 year olds who have been in the majors for 3-4 years and 24 year olds who are playing in their second year? Just curious if there is a difference and if adjusting to major league pitching has its own performance curve regardless of age

Given that we know the playoffs come down to luck more than anything, that doesn't help. Our history with luck is pretty terrible. That Will Ferrell spoofish Lifetime movie is on. We've made the playoffs 6 times in the last 70 years, so its not like we've had a ton of chances to succeed in the playoffs.
