  1. Haha that's exactly what I thought when I saw the umbrella. PTR also made them dry off the umbrella and return it to the team shop when done with it.
  2. Poor Soler. Not his fault the umpires randomly hate him
  3. Holy crap I've never seen the batter start walking back to the dugout thinking he struck out only for it to be called a ball
  4. Joniak and Coomer might be the worst baseball announcing duo ever. Neither has any emotion in their voices when anything happens which is weird because Joniak has more than enough emotion calling Bears games
  5. UMFan attacked him like he's a lunatic when what he said (a low end for bryant might be reynolds except with decent defense at 3B) was far from deserving of such a response he said that he wouldnt cry too hard if he ended up Mark Reynolds with defense. Mark Reynolds had one really good offensive season, one slightly less good offensive season and a bunch of average ones (1-2 wins over replacement level). If that's how Bryant's career goes with non-disasterous defense, that's a disappointing career. LLF is overvaluing Reynolds IMO well wouldn't cry too hard implies he'd cry, so that's obviously disappointing, duh I took it as slightly disapponting but something he could live with. It would be very disappointing if he was mark Reynolds with passable defense, especially because he's already shown to be a better offensive player than every Reynolds season but one and has enough time left this year to surpass that one too

  7. jfc, Kris Bryant in ~4 months has nearly equaled Mark Reynolds highest WAR season, which was his only season with a WAR over 1.3. thanks in large part to defense. His offensive WAR this year would already be the second highest in Reynolds career. If your just looking at offensive WAR and comparing to Reynolds, expect one more season like this one from Bryant and the rest will be mediocre. thats not saying much
  8. jfc, Kris Bryant in ~4 months has nearly equaled Mark Reynolds highest WAR season, which was his only season with a WAR over 1.3. It would take an absolute disaster, like Bryant being stricken with polio, for him to have his career be compared to Mark Reynolds when all is said and done. And Bryant with polio might still be better than Reynolds.
  9. up until bryant started hitting again i was fine with it. Coghlan's been struggling at the plate lately so I really don't see why. Since Soler has started to hit, I wouldnt mind going Fowler, Schwarber, Bryant, Rizzo, Soler, Montero, Coghlan, Pitcher, Russell. you still have good L/R balance there.
  10. If you looked at advanced stats, Bryant would be the best right? Too bad the writers don't necessarily look at that.
  11. I also read somewhere that Utley has repeatedly told management in the past that he would invoke his no-trade clause to veto any trade, although he softened his stance slightly earlier this year.
  12. Glad the draft went off so well its coming back. I don't expect it to be a permanent fixture but still pretty cool to have.
  13. If you like rumors, here are some: http://sportsmockery.com/2015/08/rumor-the-friends-of-patrick-kanes-accuser-are-already-talking-million-dollar-settlement/ TL;DL: (all rumors) accuser took molly the night of the incident, no one wants this to go to trial including the accuser, both sides are discussing a $1-2m settlement
  14. Not that the Giants didn't prioritize it enough just that they are a veteran team who won a title last year so he expects the team will rise the occasion when they need to But actually typing this out makes me think that it sounds way too meatbally and doesn't make sense so I retract it. But yes Maddon managed great last weekend
  15. How about a 2 game home and home with aggregate runs scored advancing? Lol that was mostly a joke but it sounds kind of cool although it would radically change the strategy.
  16. I can't think of another organization where the head of baseball ops takes the star slugger out drinking on his birthday during the season.
  17. Pretty good article explaining Bryant's adjustment to the low strike http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/141856260/kris-bryant-chicago-cubs-adjusting-low-strike
  18. It was nice to see that Maddon recognized it as a big series, didn't shy away from saying so, and then managed like these games meant more than the others. On the other side of things, I actually also think Bochy rightly (IMO) treated them like any other series with his veteran=championship core. At the end of the day, the young, hungry team who happened to be playing better baseball going in, swept the series and greatly improved their confidence going forward.
  19. As for the schedule.... 156 games (already this will never happen) Wild Card game as it is All 3 rounds are 7 game series And with 40% of the playoff spots now decided between teams in all divisions, I would greatly like the schedule to be more balanced so that a team that has to play the Cardinals and Pirates 18 teams is not competiting for the same playoff spot as a team with lesser teams at the top of their division.
  20. Why would that happen? Hammel goes down with injury, Arrieta pitches Saturday, Lester pitches sunday, Wada is deported, Wood gets injured washing his truck, Hendricks contract is voided when it is determined he is actually 17 and not legally able to sign a contract, Haren randonly starts throwing 94 again.
  21. I believe he started the last couple of games for us last year.
  22. [tweet] [/tweet] Theo, Rizzo, and some other guy doing karaoke awesome...assuming this was last night? Nice birthday celebration for Riz
  23. Well yeah right now he'd have to go through 25 other teams before we had a chance to claim him and it sounds like at least a couple of those teams are interested.
  24. This is extremely premature obviously but Im guessing it would go Lester, Hammel, Arrieta. If we're down 2-1 we go back to Lester on 4 days rest, if we're up 2-1 you might roll the dice with Hendricks. Game 5 would be whoever didn't start between Lester/Hendricks with Arrieta available in relief if needed.
  25. So the Cubs go 10-1 and gain only 2 games each on the Cardinals and Pirates. If both those teams went 5-6 instead of 8-3 we'd be 1/2 behind the Pirates and 5 1/2 behind the Cardinals.
