  1. I got that one and game 1 against the Dodgers. I believe in 2007 they still used tickets.com VWRs so I was able to easily exploit and get tickets. I watched OPR Hill serve up a meatball to Chris Young as I was walking to m seats. And yes I still have nightmares where DeRosa is grounding into double plays repeatedly. In 2008 I believe I was bitching about how pretty much everyone I knew getting selected in the lottery but not me. However a day or two before the game I managed to find a single on their website and happily bought it.
  2. Montero most love only playing in 60% of our games.
  3. I read the fine print and couldn't figure out what they use to determine a 'duplicate entry' I signed up my wife and myself with different email addresses and phone numbers but the same address. Hope it counts as 2 entries. At the very least, it says for duplicate entries, it will accept the last entered one as an entry, so if you play around with making different entries, at least you know that you won't be disqualified.
  4. Also, I've been a little out of the loop, have they mentioned who might be starting that double header on Tuesday? They could theoretically line up Lester and Arrieta to go in the DH, but then they will almost certainly need a spot starter next Saturday against St. Louis.
  5. That's a great question. I'm assuming they would hold it off until the end of the regular season to see if its needed. Assuming the Cardinals won the Central, this would only be a major scheduling issue if the Cubs finished 0.5 games behind the Pirates and clinched the season series. There's a small chance it would matter if the Cubs finished 0.5 games ahead of the Pirates but the Pirates won the season series, but that would involve the Cubs making up 3.5 games in 23 games, despite losing 5 of 7 to the Pirates. That would mean the Cubs would have to outplay Pittsburgh by 6.5 games over 16 games. So we're talking Cubs going 14-2 and the Pirates going 8-9 or something. So if the unlikely scenario occurred the Cubs would be stuck playing that Philly game on Monday, probably starting some guy like Dan Haren and hoping for the best, and then the WC game on Wednesday.
  6. Dammit, it was nice only competing against 28 other teams.
  7. You left out "Looking at the radar, I doubt they get this one in tonight"
  8. Can we get today's game thread going? Wanted to post this there but I'll probably forget once it's posted but...if Jake goes exactly 3 scoreless innings to start the game today, his ERA will officially drop to 1.9948, thus rounded to 1.99. Can also get there if he goes at least 7.2 IP and gives up 1 ER
  9. Was just looking this up because this is what's most frustrating. In the second game of the DH, we were down 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, got 3 in the seventh and one in the eighth to win. But the rest of our wins over them were routine where we never trailed. May 4: Up 5-0 and then 8-4, blow it with 2 in the 6th and 4 in the 7th. June 26: Greg Garcia game. Cubs up 2-1, Garcia HR in the 8th, lost on a walkoff in the 10th. July 8: Jhonny Peralta game. And now today. So they've gotten us late 4 times and we've only gotten them late once. So you're saying our luck should even out in the playoffs??
  10. Barnwell has the Bears as one of his 8 teams expected to improve this year. One positive voice in a sea of negativity.
  11. Not sure how fluky this is but during that DH in July, we were tied 2-2 in the 7th and we hit a DP grounder to the pitcher who threw the ball away allowing us to take the lead (and tack on an insurance run in the inning)
  12. Just landed and saw the score. That sucks. Imagine where we'd be if we closed out this game and the Peralta HR game... Why does it seem like Strop is either completely dominant or completely shits the bed with no in between and with no warning. Like he could strike out the side one game and then give up 4 the next and strike out the side after that. Strop is still my guy but I'm definitely going to be nervous every time he comes in during the playoffs
  13. Cubs are now at their 6th best season high water mark since 1945. 35 - 2008 32 - 1969 32 - 1984 25 - 1977 24 - 1989 23 - 2015 21 - 2004 19 - 2001 They have a little ways to go to catch their all time high water mark set by the 1906 Cubs who were 80 games over .500
  14. I was just thinking...with Schwarber coming back and Castro hitting again, along with Javy, does Soler even have a place in the everyday lineup when he comes back?
  15. Definitely an 8.5 win player that Yadi
  16. What an [expletive] moron. Especially right after Rizzo, easily the most mainstream position player on the Cubs, hits a homer Also completely glossed over the fact that a team with more "misfits" in their lineup has the best record in baseball by several games. Which is funny because they never miss a chance to rip Matheny.

  18. Anyone know a good app for streaming games? In London until tomorrow, would love to watch.
  19. Knew this was Rondon Fan before I read the username
  20. instead of just knowing that a certain anonymous percentage of players on our favorite team are awful human beings i am so conflicted about sports these days The sad thing is, I'm sure fans will eventually get over it and go back to cheering for him. It might take a few years and/or another Cup run but a large percentage of people are all about redemption stories.
  21. Amazing that I want to talk hockey and not off the ice stuff, but even if Kane is welcomed back to the team, the Hawks still have quite a few moves to make don't they? For one, Kruger is just chilling waiting to sign, but he can't because the Hawks are still projected to be over the cap by a decent amount. It's possible they are holding off until they decide what to do with Kane because they can probably get themselves under the cap by trading him and taking less back if they wanted to go that route.
  22. Also my impression is that Kane got some bad legal advice or something. If there was a possibility of settlement from the start (and maybe there wasn't) Kane should have jumped on that. At least then you can try to argue that it was best for both parties to move on despite Kane's innocence. It might have helped him save some face and the story isn't in the news cycle for weeks. Now it's pretty obvious Kane wants to settle to save him from potential jail time and jeopardizing his career and I'm not sure what other way you can look at it. Perhaps Kane and his lawyers thought that there was a chance he could be vindicated, I don't know. But Kane knows what happened and had a good idea of what evidence was out there. Either way we are like a week from training camp starting. Should be very interesting.
  23. I would not be surprised if he is traded He has a no movement clause in his contract. Is he going to want to stay somewhere where he's obviously not wanted?
