  1. that's less exciting and almost equally flukish. I know all that but at least playing a minimum of 2 games feels more like the playoffs than this format. If we somehow lost on Wednesday it wouldn't even feel like we were in the playoffs. For instance, the Indians made a playoff appearance a few years ago and lost...to me it feels like they haven't made the playoffs since 2007 or whatever was the last time. All that said I think I prefer 1 game for several reasons. for one, like you said it doesn't make the result any less random especially if they do that double header thing that people are proposing. Second, it puts the WC team at even less of an advantage having to burn your best 2-4 starters instead of 1. Heck if the 3 game series was on Tues and Wed and the LDS starts on Friday you are likely matching up their 1st starter with your 4th and their 2nd with your 5th the first 2 games.
  2. Yeah it is really get an evaluation on your team when your first 3 games are against 3 of the best in the conference. Add to that you had maybe the worst backup QB in the league taking half the snaps in those 3 games and number 1 WR only playing 3 quarters and we really don't have a good handle on this team. So while it was somewhat understandable that people were calling us the worst team in the league, I didn't think that was fair with all things above considered. We still don't really know how good they are but we will find out soon
  3. Agreed. Cards win game 2. Cubs take 1,3,4. that'd be ideal. i want to see a damn series win at wrigley. Considering we've won one playoff round in the last 107 years I'll take a series win in any capacity but at Wrigley would be extra nice
  4. A game 5 win in St. Louis might be the best thing to ever happen in sports. I'd trade a previously won Bulls and Blackhawks title for this to happen.
  5. ^^ that is awesome. Jake is awesome and he knows it
  6. Ok matchups are now locked in AL Wild Card Game: Houston Astros (86-76) at New York Yankees (87-75) NL Wild Card Game: Chicago Cubs (97-65) at Pittsburgh Pirates (98-64) ALDS 1: Texas Rangers (88-74) at Toronto Blue Jays (93-69) ALDS 2: Astros/Yankees at Kansas City Royals (95-67) NLDS 1: New York Mets (90-72) at Los Angeles Dodgers (92-70) NLDS 2: Chicago Cubs (97-65) at St. Louis Cardinals (100-62) Quick 1st round predictions: Yankees 6, Astros 2 Cubs 5, Pirates 1 Blue Jays over Rangers 3-0 Royals over Yankees 3-2 Dodgers over Mets 3-1 [expletive] it..Cubs over Cardinals 3-2 Won't dare predict from that point on
  7. Astros with 2 on and 0 outs trailing 5-3 in the 9th. If they come back and the Yankees score holds, the WC game is in Houston, otherwise it's in NY
  8. So everything is official except home field in the AL Wild Card game (I'm calling the Royals and Blue Jays games that both involve 5+ run lead/deficits with less than 3 outs to go) Yankees are losing 7-4, Astros losing 5-3
  9. It's official, 97 win team has to play a single elimination game on the road to make the rest of the playoffs. Not as mad as I am dumbfounded that this unlikely of a scenario occurred
  10. Bryant!!! Last good chance for Reds, 2 on and 2 out for Phillips in 8th Edit: Phillips grounds out weakly. I will enjoy the 20 minutes that we are 0.5 GB the Pirates
  11. Now they are going to magically find 2 ERs not charged to Hendricks bringing his ERA above 4
  12. For fun, I went back and looked up the 13 PAs with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs this weekend. The Cubs were 4-12-1 at getting the run home (I'm calling a walk with runners at the corners that doesn't score a run a neutral outcome) 3 of the times we succeeded it was on a base hit, the other time it was Castro grounding into a DP today. The times we failed: -popout -fielders choice -5 strikeouts -foul out So overall 33% rate of getting the run home, which is only slightly worse than our season average of 41%.
  13. Seriously I cannot stress enough how disappointing the outcomes of these games are so far :(
  14. How many different ways can the Cubs not bring a runner home from 3rd? lol
  15. last chance for number 100. I'm sure Berry is in the game to get into scoring position specifically to give Bryant a good shot.
  16. 3-0 Pirates now. Oh well, we will shut up their stupid fans if the Reds can't come back.
  17. Jay Bruce is a replacement level player this year. This is true, but with the Reds needing runs, Bruce (who was due up 2nd) next inning is a better fit than this Holt guy who has a career OPS of .508 and a minor league OPS of .718.
  18. Awesome [tweet] [/tweet]
  19. Sweet now Jay Bruce was removed from the game, making the Reds even weaker.
  20. Disappointing day so far....Angels/Rangers are 6 outs from ensuring no tiebreaking games tomorrow, Pirates/Reds are 9 outs from ensuring Cubs don't get HFA, Astros are losing, if that and the Yankees game holds, no Houston catching NYY for HFA in the WC game, Buehrle going out with a bang quickly killed any shot of the Royals/Blue Jays games being interesting.
  21. Can someone unban reds44 and then ban him again just to make me happy
  22. Montgommery has a broken fibula...hope you liked Slauson at C today
  23. Reds finally get a hit and Phillips gets thrown out trying to stretch it to 2nd. It would have been 1st and 3rd for Frazier if he just stayed put at 1st. [expletive] hell
  24. I think if we would scored more runs than our opponents in the 65 games we didn't, we would have secured at least home field in the WC game already
