  1. There are very few players that are capable of single-handedly turning a bad team into a playoff team. You could probably put Lebron James on any team in the league and they would make the playoffs, but who else can you say that about? Elton Brand could have been a very nice piece on a contender if we had been able to pair him with a couple other elite players. He could have been, like, the Chris Bosh of a Big 3. How about leading a team to 30 wins? I think Bosh handled that without much more help than Brand had. And yea, Bosh is basically also the definition of not a franchise changer. If the qualifier is third best player on a Championship team with the best player on Earth.... yea. I mean, do you remember freaking Kevin Garnett being dogged for not being a winner, and that was for leading his teams to a bunch of second round appearances in a tough Western Conference. Kevin Garnetts twolves only made it out of the first round once
  2. More from the bad luck department: the Cubs were 2-13 with RISP tonight - and neither hit scored a run
  3. That or Jerry Krause was just a pompous ass
  4. They absolutely did not. If they were going to trade him, they would have been better off allowing him to blossom for a few years into a legit superstar. At his peak, they could have received a lot more than the #2 pick in return for him. It would have been a whole package. Again, he didn't get injured until 8 years into his career. It wasn't like Rose where it happened right away. Yeah seriously how does trading the number 1 pick 2 years into his career of putting up 20/10s both seasons for the number 2 pick constitute selling high? If that was the best you could get for Brand his value would have been higher before the draft he was picked in
  5. The funny thing is. No matter how many times the Cubs lose to the Mets I am thoroughly convinced that the 2015-2016 Cubs are better than the 2015-2016 Mets and it's probably not close
  6. Just think of how many chances we had to break this one open with the baserunners early. Or Jake barely getting tagged out at the plate. Or Bryant misplacing a double into a triple that indirectly caused the mets to tie it, or rondon giving up two very weak contact singles to score a run or walker being safe in that inning by a millisecond. Or Szczur hitting it right to the 2B allowing him to easily throw out Russell. Like I said baseball is a cruel sport sometimes
  7. Nope, not with Szczur's success lately, and Ross being a much more likely double play candidate. I dunno. Ross came through in a similar situation yesterday. Either way you are looking at the bad side of a reverse split. But Ross is a wily veteran that doesn't let the situation get to him.
  8. Well maybe they just own us. We can't seem to get out of our own way against them. We snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I guess we should expect the same thing if we face them in the playoffs. -2015 Mets fan
  9. Nah the one in NY was worse. At the time I still had "116 win" aspirations. This one was just annoying for a team that's going to cruise to a division title
  10. You'd think they would have learned when THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TWO WEEKS AGO
  11. Seriously. 2 times we've loaded the bases with 0 outs down 1 against Familia and twice we've failed to score. What are the odds?
  12. This is seriously going to happen twice in 6 games against the Mets. horsefeathers this horsefeathers
  13. Please let this be better than the last time the Cubs loaded the bases and 0 outs down 1 to the Familia
  14. Meh against a righty Fake edit: horsefeathers it Javy is awesome he will get it done
  15. real close to banning you from game threads rn I bet you don't even know how Are you saying you double dog dare him?
  16. Miggy if you hit a home run I'll overlook the fact that you suck for about 12 hours or so
  17. If we lose this they will keep saying the Mets own the Cubs. And for the most part who cares but that first game in NY and this one we completely outplayed them and lost.
  18. Now Familia can throw 9 straight balls and strike out the side
  19. A game like this shows just how amazing Jakes streak of Cubs wins in his start was. You get one game where the offense doesn't show up or they get some bad luck and you can pitch amazing and still potentially lose
