    Well, it was .091 on the season coming into that AB and now under .200 in his career. I'll admit I embellish a lot but this is a fact. SSS alert He had a 1.500 OPS with the bases loaded last year in 12 PA This year he is 1-12 with the bases loaded Either way we are talking about 26 PA sample size.

    I've never seen a team execute so many squeeze plays especially when the other team knows exactly whats going to happen. It's absolutely insane how many times the defense doesn't get even 1 out in those situations. I freaking love it

    I don't think Coomer is terrible when he's only doing color. He's not great but he gets the job done. When he switches to PBP is when I am seething with hatred. Thats true. Dan Plesac is still the worst color I've heard for the Cubs. Have you mentally blocked out the Joe Carter years?

    no move. the 26th man is good for the day, not the 2nd game Yeah I just looked it up. If the DH was scheduled less than 48 hours in advance then the 26th guy can only play in the 2nd game for some reason

    So if Cahill is starting game 1, what is the roster move that was made? As I understand it, the 26th man can only be made available for the 2nd game of a DH.

    Is the plan for Cahill to move to the bullpen or go go back to Iowa after the start tomorrow? I could see Smith getting DFA'd to make room for Cahill staying up full time after his start tomorrow. Well to go back to Iowa he'd either need to get hurt again or be DFA'd and clear waivers so I'm guessing he will be back up as a long reliever/spot starter

    As recently has July 23 he had a 2.57 ERA and a .650 OPS against 29k/9bb in 31.2 IP. And IIRC his FIP was legitimizing those numbers. Obviously in the 5 appearances since then he completely fell apart. Also I think I read here or elsewhere that his stuff is not the same as previous years and the fact that a contender like Washington who has bullpen issues outright released him doesn't speak well. I'm guessing the Cubs do pick him up and give him a chance in the 7th inning role while Strop is out. If he pitches well then he gets a playoff roster spot and can pitch wherever. As far as the clubhouse stuff goes, it could be a bad thing to have him there, but there are so many former Red Sox connections on this team like Lackey, Lester, Theo, Jed, etc that if they vouch for him there won't be any dissent for him joining. I'm not sure if I'm 100% on board with this but at the same time we have the 11 game lead and a potential open bullpen spot to give him a try. If he sucks then we get rid of him and wait for Strop to return.

    I can't remember which local baseball douche reported this, I think Bruce Levine, but it was reported that the Cubs are seriously interested in signing Papelbon. The Cubs also signed Joe Thatcher to a minor league deal, so its looking pretty clear that the Cubs are willing to sign any currently or formerly competent bullpen arm to try to get lightning in a bottle for the playoffs.

    Up 2 runs to start an inning against the lower part of the order is a fine time to put Rondon in. And honesty I thought he has pretty good stuff. He got ahead of the first hitter who admittedly had a hard hit single. Then got ahead of the 2nd hitter who laid down a perfect bunt. And then the HR. he probably should have been pulled after that though before the 2nd HR and the bunch of hits Wood gave up (man he's been bad lately).

    I hate how the Cardinals are going to win the WC and instead of nothing to lose like last year we will have everything to lose. Not saying that means we lose a potential series just that it's going to be a lot more nerve wracking than last year and potentially devastating if we don't win.
