  1. I was reading an article on greatest Game 7's today and it made me wonder why Gene Larkin's walkoff hit in the 1991 World Series is so underrated. When you hear about great World Series walkoffs you hear about Joe Carter, Edgar Renteria, Luis Gonzalez, Bill Mazeroski, Carlton Fisk, even Kirby Puckett the night before. Heck I couldn't have even told you who hit the walk off before I read the article. The story of that game was Jack Morris throwing 10 shutout innings for sure but a world series winning walkoff hit in Game 7 is about as magical a moment as it gets and its hardly talked about IMO.
  2. You thought I shouldn't go because I might get my pocket picked (literally)?! And/or figuratively. I think it's a legitimate concern - thieves are opportunists. Personally, among the possible bad things that could happen in a extremely large crowd of emotional fans, being pickpocked is like right ahead of 'being barrelled over by a police horse' as things I'm least worried about.
  3. I keep thinking of random Cubs related memories in my life...the time my dad picked me up from pre-school and surprised me by taking me to Opening Day, years later coming home from school and realizing that there was a Cubs game on that day, turning it on and seeing the last 2 innings of Woods 20k game, watching/listening to Harry call a meaningless summer afternoon game in the beautiful but aging ballpark, obsessively watching every game in 98 to see if Sammy would homer, and if he would watch the local newscast that night to see the highlights again, everything in 2001, 2003 and 2004, decent seasons that would fall short, watching the middling Hendry years where we could night find the winning combination as I started to understand advanced stats, the disapppointing 08 run, the many nights during the rebuilding years where i imagined what it would be like seeing the Cubs celebrate a World Series title, everything this season. I have gone through my entire life of Cub fandom, and realize there has always been this moment hanging over our heads, for better or worse, over all of those moments. It's all been building to this moment as a fan. It will never be the same again, and I for one am fine with going to the other side.
  4. Me neither. Sounds like a great way for a player to risk getting injured before the regular season. Also a team-building killer for ST. Don't like no meaningful players go to the WBC anymore? Didn't the American team basically have like minor leaguers/role-players at best on the roster last time? This is an article on the preliminary roster for the US team that they submitted last month. Trout and Harper weren't on it because they wouldn't commit yet, but names like Arenado, Bryant, Arrieta, Kluber, Miller, Posey, Scherzer and Stanton are on it. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/trout-harper-reportedly-not-on-preliminary-usa-roster-for-world-baseball-classic/
  5. Question. When the Cubs win tonight, can someone who does a good impression of Steve Goodman's singing voice overdub the lyrics in Go Cubs Go to say "to best the best in the Major Leagues"?
  6. Given what we read about him in the ESPN article, I wonder how Theo is feeling right about now waiting for this game.
  7. I thought someone said a page or 2 back that there were $100 covers The best option if you are on a budget is likely to go to Southport or Lincoln Ave bars for the game. If the Cubs look like they're going to do it you are still a short walk from bedlam.
  8. Yes only because Kluber Miller and Allen can likely cover more innings than Kershaw and Jansen. Like for instance if the Dodgers had Andrew Miller, he could have come in early in Game 6 when the score was still 2-0, pitched 3 innings and turned it over to Shaw for a couple of innings, then Allen. The Dodgers didn't really have anyone else in the pen that could put the fear of God into you besides Jansen.
  9. The key is getting to him early. I think Francona is going to prepare him as if he is going 4-5 innings no matter what. He will tell him there is no need to preserve his arm for an 8 inning start, there is no need to hold anything back in early ABs so he can bring it out the 3rd time around the order. Treat the game as if he was coming out of the pen and let it rip. But I think scoring off Kluber is still going to be our best shot. Miller, Allen and Shaw should all be quite sharp, so he could easily get 4-5 strong innings out of them. The most likely outcome if the Cubs win is the Cubs getting 3 runs off of Kluber and then 1-2 off of the pen, while our pitching does enough to preserve the win.
  10. I keep counting down the hours. In less than 12 hours we can be World Series champs
  11. This will be the smallest gap between seasons the Cubs have ever had though...if that helps. Also I'm guessing pitchers and catchers will report early this year because of the WBC. That has been the case in years past right? Twins have a report date of Feb 13, that's the only one I can find. Based on that, the offseason will last just 102 days. For a frame of reference, 102 days ago was July 23rd. The Cubs lost in Milwaukee 6-1, but won the next game with a bases loaded double by Rizzo. A week after that, the Cubs began their 11 game winning streak that basically clinched best record in NL
  12. i am so unbelievably nervous that there's some part of me that wishes i could not watch the game or something. like my body is physically wanting to reject watching the game. I'm with Sofa on this one. Definitely nervous but less than yesterday...hard to describe why. But I absolutely get what David is saying because I've felt that multiple times this postseason...to the point where I'm like 'why do i root so hard for the Cubs to be in this position only to get there and sort of wish there wasn't an important game tonight so I didnt have to feel this way right now?'
  13. Yes I still don't understand what all the uproar is about. Do I understand people disagreeing with Joe's decision to use Chapman in a 5 run game after throwing 42 pitches 2 days ago and with game 7 tomorrow? Of course. However I still think Joe made a reasonable call that is not worth being THE story of Game 6. I think it was important to shut the door on Cleveland in the 7th, absolutely no problems with that. Once you have him in and warmed up, I think its reasonable to have him pitch the 8th to put most doubt away. The only issue I had, which TT and others brought up, is that Joe did not have anyone warming in the bullpen to start the top of the 9th. The chances of Grimm or Wood pitching in Game 7 are almost 0, so there is absolutely no harm in having them warm up to start the inning in case the Cubs scored. Actually at that point with the indians needing 5 runs with only 3 outs, I would have took Chapman out regardless because I think even the Reds bullpen would have a 99% chance of shutting the door on the game and if you can't trust Strop, Rondon, Wood, Grimm, Edwards and Lackey to shut the door you probably don't deserve to win. At that point, the win probability was so high that it makes sense to prepare for Game 7. But even if you were ok with Chapman pitching the 9th in a 5 run game, they should have been warming up in case the Cubs scored. I don't think those 4 extra pitches will matter for Chapman, he was throwing 98 mph fastballs just to get through the batter so Strop could come in, but its still a bit careless on Joe's part. Anyways, most of this was a series of defensible decisions. You can make a compelling argument that he was wrong, but it wasn't a "OMG WTF WAS STUPID JOE DOING HE RUINED THE CUBS TONIGHT" type of decision.
  14. It's my birthday so I'm gonna do cake and horsefeathers with the family and watch the first 3 innings at home. Assuming the worst hasnt happened, i will then drive down to wrigleyville mid-game. I cant NOT be in Wrigleyville if they win, unless I was in cleveland. On that topic, my wife has been suggesting I just drive to cleveland right now and buy a ticket. If I could find one in the $500-600 range I would... Start driving. I'll meet you in Toledo. We'll make it work!! Not sure if serious but I'm strongly considering right now..
  15. Go to wrigleyville. Go for all of those who can't. Go and soak it in, and own that experience for the rest of your life. 16. This one is for all the coconuts as one famous Javy dong victim would say
  17. Nooooo.... "Welcome to gam thread. This is treemon" Keep going with that works. Bring us to the promised land Tree!
  18. Guys, we need to win a single baseball game to win the World Series. Just one.
  19. The only thing that bothers me is that Chapman was throwing 98 mph fastballs on that last AB, but I'm guessing he was just trying to get through a batter so he could get out of the game.

  21. I don't think Joe will lift Chapman but I might at this point. 15 pitches leaves you in a good spot for Game 7. If you can't trust literally every other member of your pen to get 3 outs without allowing 5 runs, you don't deserve to win the World Series
  22. At this point you have to assume that. Especially considering the other person warming when Chapman was warming was Grimm. There is no reason Grimm should have passed Strop on the depth chart unless he's hurt.
  23. I can understand disagreeing with the decision but not to the level people on Twitter are. I am completely in the boat of "do everything to win game 6". 5 run lead is not enough to disregard that. The only thing that sucks about this is that once you bring him in, it is very difficult to take him out until the game is over unless he's ineffective
