  1. I am absolutely all for drafting a QB in the first round if there is one that they like. I am not in favor of drafting a QB in the 1st round just because we need a QB. There is really only 1 top end QB I like in this draft and its Trubisky. I believe that he will be drafted 1 or 2 and if that's the case then I hope the Bears draft Jonathan Allen. If you aren't going to have a star QB, I think the next best thing is having an elite front 7 and I think the Bears have a shot at that. Hicks, Goldman, Allen, Freeman, McPhee, Young, Trevathan with Floyd, Houston, Sutton and Ferguson rotating in sounds great to me. I'm probably missing some guys
  2. I know that he totally doesn't deserve it and this is dumb but I'm sad that it looks like Derrek Lee will likely not receive even 1 HOF vote in his only year on the ballot. I mean if Edgar Renteria and Jason Varitek could each get a pity vote, why can't DLee?
  3. BA is out with their Cubs list: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2017-chicago-cubs-top-10-prospects/#UPE4fy6XmmOr4CW3.97 1. Eloy Jimenez, of 2. Ian Happ, 2b/of 3. Albert Almora, of 4. Dylan Cease, rhp 5. Oscar de la Cruz, rhp 6. Mark Zagunis, of 7. Jeimer Candelario, 3b 8. Trevor Clifton, rhp 9. D.J. Wilson, of 10. Jose Albertos, rhp I thought Almora exhausted prospect status, but I guess not? Eloy blurb...who wants to be the man and post the rest of the top 10??
  4. So go the Sam Bradford route? That's interesting. Literally hoping for a late preseason QB injury is an awful plan, but they could go through the FA and draft before making a decision on Cutler, for sure. Not necessarily if: -Cutler's cap space does not affect any potential acquisitions this offseason -The Bears are fine with riding with Cutler as a mentor for a new QB if no such injury occurs -The Bears actually draft a promising QB From what I understand, that was basically the Bradford plan. They were more than willing to let Wentz backup Bradford for a year, but when the Vikings came calling out of desperation they were more than willing to trade him for a nice return. So its interesting, but as much as I love Cutler, I'd like to cut him as soon as it makes sense to and just move on. I'm sick of the endless debates and hot takes that surround Cutler and want to set him free and start over.
  5. So go the Sam Bradford route? That's interesting.
  6. How many cliche statements that say absolutely nothing can you make in one press conference?
  7. Basically he's just projecting a ton of confidence and positivity, it's all fluff though.
  8. I was like 'why is jersey posting this man's inane rants' and then I saw the twitter handle.
  9. I was getting legally drunk during that game. Damn I'm old. I may have to start a petition to make you the new recipient of Fred's old man jokes :)
  10. What do the advanced stats say about Hawks now? I know their goal differential is pretty mediocre for their spot in the standings and every time I watch them they look like they are being outplayed. Don't pass the eye test to me.
  11. Update: 10 mins left in 3rd and he has 122 yards on the ground so 48 yards away
  12. Sooo 3rd pick it is
  13. That is awesome
  14. Great retrospective on the Rizzo/Cashner trade 5 years later with interviews from Hoyer and Byrnes discussing what went on: https://sports.vice.com/en_us/article/inside-the-anthony-rizzo-trade-that-kickstarted-the-cubs-historic-world-series-run
  15. So DePaul is winning at Villanova with 5:30 left... The point spread for the game was 26.5
  16. Well this is fantastic news: [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. It's all in good fun, all of us say stuff that turns out to look stupid in hindsight. The only true mockery is people that said something that even at that time was ridiculous and then over time the ridiculousness is confirmed.
  18. This thread was a fun read knowing what we know now. This wasn't the actually Rizzo trade thread, but created when there were rumors that Padres had Rizzo on the block and the Cubs were amongst the teams interested. Wade Davis is also discussed in the thread. Some quotes (poster's names withheld to protect the innocent): rizzo had cancer, that and the age thing are pretty much the only differences between them. 19. Haven't read it all yet but this looks like a really good article breaking down Game 7 http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/18357248/masterpiece-fall-classic-greatest-game-ever
  20. [tweet] [/tweet] Is it just me or does a 1st and a 4th not sound outrageous for Garoppolo? I mean he might not be enough of a proven QB to be actually worth that, but I'm guessing based on his Patriots pedigree and how he played at the start of this year that this is a fair market value. I mean a 1st and 4th is basically what the Eagles got for Sam Bradford at the start of the year.
  21. Rex Ryan was just canned.
  22. Kreutz really isn't bad at all and he brings real insight into football, and not just the tertiary insight Mannelly brought. Holmes is good, but he's too nice and doesn't have the sense of humor Terry has. He's the straight man. Terry is super goofy and just fit with Dan well. I'd like to see Holmes get paired with Goff at some point, they used to do some great stuff. I can see McNeil lobbying for the job, but again, he's not Terry, and he could undermine Bernstein. I remember him defending North when Bernstein was going after him during a shift change. I agree with this. I like Holmes just not with Dan. I definitely think Goff and Bernstein would be a good fit
  23. Might as well get a thread up. This might be the worst Bears season of our lifetimes and yet I feel a little sad its over because football offseasons are so damn long. I know people get excited about playoffs, draft, OTAs, training camp, preseason etc but for me I'm in different to much of that besides the playoffs and the week of the draft. The Vikings started out 5-0 and then completely collapsed going 2-8 since then. They were just eliminated from the playoffs and their defensive players were openly defying coaching in their last week. It is going to be tough because I think the Minnesota players have quit on the season, but the Bears really need to lose this to clinch the 3rd pick and not slide down to 6.
  24. Obviously unlikely to happen but if Howard can get 170 rushing yards on Sunday he will have the most rushing yards in a season by a Bear since Walter Payron in 1985. Not bad considering he didn't play in week 1 and didn't have 10 carries in a game until week 4
  25. I hope to see another "Javy got picked off but nah he's safe anyways" play later in this list...maybe like one in the NLCS?
