  1. Hahaha I love that. "You guys fucked up because you might have acquired 2 good QBs. You bums!"
  2. You know he's actually the last Cubs starter to pitch a clean 1st inning as well.
  3. This first inning thing is one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen in baseball.
  4. Look I don't expect anything of substance in these types of press conferences from any team's front office, but what GarPax have said is such thinly disguised [expletive] and a whole lot of talking in circles. No one is buying this bullcrap about keeping financial flexibility and Fred showing growth, etc.
  5. I don't know why I bother tuning into these press conferences.
  6. Yes, I believe we've raised a 5th flag pole in the bleachers in anticipation.
  7. Obviously I would rather have a player do that too. It's just a quirky thing that's kind of cool and hasn't been accomplished by a Cub in a long time (Grace in 93 is still the last one right?).
  8. And then gave up 3 runs over the next 2 innings. What a troll
  9. "This will be a really great move that the next GM will really appreciate"
  10. Just PM'ed soccer10k asking him to start today's thread. If we don't get one by 6PM, its up for grabs
  11. +1 Heart for the very old school reference
  12. Please write an article about how Trump is doing great as a president and will definitely last all 4 years.
  13. The NHL is probably thrilled at the potential of Canadian teams in the SCF. They're falling over themselves begging for the scenario. I would think they'd be thrilled with PIT/NYR vs EDM, and okay with the Ducks but extremely disappointed in any of the other teams. EDM has the allure of the historical franchise with ties to Gretzky, but they aren't going to be happy with Ottawa. Nobody cares a bit about Ottawa. Edmonton would be ok also because of McDavid. I'm just basing it on the fact that the last time Edmonton and Ottawa participated in the SCF, the numbers were anemic. Granted this was immediately after a crippling lockout, but the numbers make it hard for me to believe that the NHL is begging for Edmonton or Ottawa to make the SCF. Of course I'm only considering the US audience. I'm guessing the Canadian TV audience is much less elastic based on who is actually in the SCF, but I don't know that for a fact. Also, you don't think Washington would get a pretty good audience? DC metro is 6th largest in the country, have a big name star that resonates about as much as anyone in hockey, have a recent tortured history, and a title starved fan base.
  14. Maybe he is pissed off and uses this as motivation, has a huge season and then we trade him for a couple of 1sts
  15. Come back Bosio...accuse everyone of steroids I don't care just come back and fix this!!
  16. Again like you said, this is with respect to the level of competition, but he looks Devin Hester like in his elusiveness, acceleration, ability to use his blockers and ability to cut back at the perfect time.
  17. Doesn't surprise me actually...cut down on your overall talent but make the talent you do have the best in the biz.
  18. So one month in, how is everyone feeling about the Cubs? I'm pretty content overall. There have been some warts but none of them that I expect to last all season. I don't think any of us doubt that they will go on a hot run sooner rather than later. The starting pitching concerns me a little but Hendricks has turned in 2 good performances in a row, Anderson is still healthy, and Jon and Jake have enough of a history to not give me any concern with a slow start (although Arrieta slightly I guess). Also I haven't gotten to Duke's article yet so I'm sure that will reassure me more. None of the hitters that have slow starts are really that concerning to me. Schwarber is too good to struggle for long, Bryant is heating up, Rizzo has been great, Heyward has had a nice start. Contreras and Javy could stand to hit better but we have options even if they don't come around (and Willy hasn't looked bad despite a barley sub-.700 OPS). So yeah, 13-11 isn't 25-6 but considering the amount of mental errors, struggling starting pitching and some slow starts, I'm happy where we are at and don't see any reason why we won't win the division and be a WS favorite again.
  19. Is a 7th round pick really that much better than signing an UFA? Only in that you can draft the player you want and they are bound to you whereas with an UDFA you have to compete with the other 31 teams for that guy.
  20. It got kind of confusing with all of the trades, but this is how it shakes out in terms of what the Bears lost/gained via trades. R1: Went up from 3 to 2 R2: Went down from 36 to 45 R3: Lost Pick 67 R4: Went down from 111 to 112, Went down from 117 to 119 R5: No change (picked at 147) R6: No change (no picks) R7: Lost pick 221 2018 draft: went from a 3rd rounder to a 4th rounder Obviously every spot gained and lost matters to some degree, but the major damage was losing a 3rd and a 7th this year, dropping 9 spots in the 2nd round and dropping our pick by a round next year. The rest of the moves were within 1-2 spots of the original pick
  21. This might be a top 10 all time post on this Forum. Certainly a top 3 Simpsons reference post.
