  1. huge news, thank you for the unique local insight that hasn't been talked about anywhere else.
  2. Geez, he's not exactly a household name for casual fans but he's been on the radar since the first NCAA title game run at Butler and took the most famous missed halfcourt shot in basketball history
  3. Speaking of Lackey, the wind is blowing out today. He's currently on pace to allow 47 HRs this year, just 1 off the all time NL mark. Probably a good day for him to get on pace.
  4. Damn Snell's numbers are awful this year. They are actually a little worse than Lackey's albeit with only 9 starts
  5. Not that this particular move is going to happen but this is another reason why it sucks that the Cubs have struggled so much so far this year. Teams like the Cardinals who should be 10+ games out of 1st are confident to pull a trigger on a big move or two and become more formidable threats in the division. As for Milwaukee I'd prefer that they buy blow up their farm
  6. I know those numbers aren't great, but would it be a safe assumption that most guys high leverage numbers are a little lower than their career avg/norms? In high leverage spots, aren't hitters more times than not going to be facing elite level relief pitching which will/should suppress output numbers offensively? Not to replacement level. I mean they're different for everybody. Some rise up and some don't. But KB should be markedly better than a 296 wOBA 80 wRC+. Do you think clutch is an attribute? I don't really think it is, especially for a polished hitter like KB. It seems like more a matter of luck and sample size to me but I'd be willing to consider arguments if they are valid.
  7. Impossible to make up 3.5 games with 80 left. I can't remember the last time this team has won 3 in a row. This team clearly isn't very good and nothing they've done has shown they can go on a run. A bunch of them won 103 games and a World Series last year. I know thisnyear is a different team but clearly they've shown *something* to make you think they can go on a run. To me it's all about starting pitching. You get hendricks back and get a 1 or 2 quality starter and I think things will turn around quickly. There are several guys that aren't hitting great offensively but that doesnt even matter. Last years formula was elite starting pitching, elite defense and above average offense. Not a huge hill to climb for the offense to get to last year's point. The issue is every single starter has regressed from last year's performances. Fix that and you fix this team
  8. Clearly lacks the clutch gene Should trade him ASAP. Can you honestly see him hitting a game tying HR in the 9th inning of a playoff game? Or haha should we make the World Series, can you see him hitting a couple of important HRs or maybe in a game 7 game having 3 hits?
  9. Impossible to make up 3.5 games with 80 left. Things we do know: Tim is wrong about the Brewers selling by the deadline and Duker is wrong about us being 10 games better than the Brewers by the end of the season. Let's just hope that's where you guys being wrong and me being right ends. ETA: The vaunted Brewers. Not just the Brewers. Gasping at straws but plenty of instances of teams playing way over their heads for half the season and tanking. The Brewers did it in 2014 (52-31 at one point and finished 82-80) the White Sox did it recently too.
  10. It's just not going to happen this year. That's silly but the longer we play lackluster baseball the less good you feel about it. Still plenty of baseball to play but the team hasn't played nearly well enough a majority of the season.
  11. The team we will eventually overtake is up 2-0 early. God the Orioles pitching is awful but I have a feeling they will be magically be good when the Cubs face them Edit: make that 3-0
  12. Seriously this game has put me in a bad mood for the day. I thought that was supposed to stop when we won the World Series
  13. 2017 Cubs for ya. First 2 reach and the tying run is up and no runs score. This team is so disappointing so far this year....
  14. And now the offense will go down quietly the rest of the game I guess Sorry for all the negativity today I think I'm in a bad mood
  15. We've had 1 winning streak (2 or more consecutive wins) over the last month
  16. And we have what Butler going against Milwaukee this week? We could be more games back than we expected at the ASB. hopefully I'm wrong
  17. horsefeathering trainwreck. 2 straight games we've given their pitcher their first MLB hit and RBIs 6 straight hitters reach to start this inning off Lester...
  18. There's our ace giving up his 7th hit in 3+ IP I'm pretty sure every Cubs starter at this point last year had a lower ERA than Lester, who has our lowest this year.
  19. Baseball is a stupid sport and we should all be ashamed for liking it
  20. Stupid run allowed, bunt single, stolen base, error on the throw, sac fly
  21. Sounds about right. The last two times we've played Baltimore (2008 and one of the dark years) it's been at Wrigley. also weird that we've only been to the trop once ever Looks like the Cubs haven't played at Camden in 14 years, since 2003
  22. I believe Happ would now have the highest OPS on the Cubs if he qualified. Him Bryant and Rizzo are all hovering around the .900 OPS mark
