  1. (and the much more relevant NFL) but i'm not sure how the whole league is handling it i know it came out a few weeks back that they were eliminating the "home" and "away" jersey designations Ahh I didn't catch that news. I just pointed out the NHL because they did the switch about 15 years ago and it was really weird at first but quickly became normal. I'm not aware of the NFL every making home jerseys white but I could be wrong
  2. Wtf? Is the entire NBA switching similar to the NHL?
  3. Maybe next time we should try sucking for 3/4 of the year just to make it interesting
  4. Lmao, is it still considered a PH AB the second time you hit in the inning?
  5. With Russell on a rookie scale and after accounting for child support and alimony, if the Cubs made him pay for every bat that went into the stands, would he be below the poverty line?
  6. You think? I'm ready for Z to become part of my everyday life again. I don't speak Spanish but I'll learn
  7. the lazy refrain for theo haters is "big deal he's overrated and wins by spending big market teams' money" Well also the 'and if all else fails, he will just tank for 3 years and then spend some money and boom world series contender'
  8. I'm not too concerned about it. It's the media, this is what they do; they anoint and they tear down because it gets people talking. I was eating up the same stories being written about the Cubs last year even though I knew the playoffs are a weighted crapshoot. Just nice to read about your team being slobbered over.
  9. This is my feeling. And it reminds me of yet another reason why its so great that we won the World Series last year. If we didnt win it this year I'd be pissed and frustrated about this move. While I would have preferred the Dodgers not go out and complete a devastatingly great playoff rotation, it kind of excites me to have this juggernaut to take down (not that we are a slouch ourselves)
  10. Good move from them. I think we can beat them but they will definitely be a formidable opponent. Kershaw, Wood, Darvish, Hill
  11. Dont know who yet edit:
  12. where is the dodgerblues forum when you need it? Would love to see them ranting right now edit: well i feel dumb for not waiting a few more minutes
  13. More on the Gray pipedream
  14. it definitely is, but his life was impacted in such a negative way...at least he gets something awesome out of it in the end. Yeah; it's the weird resolution (hopefully) to a weird situation that the poor guy got WAY too much horsefeathers over. Still plenty of meatballs that look at him as some kind of villain or figure of scorn, and since he very understandably doesn't want to be a part of something like throwing out a first pitch, this seems like a good way to publicly give a little something back to a guy who didn't deserve any of the awfulness he's gone through. Really? The only time I hear anyone bring up Steve Bartman, its from a fan of a team that hates the Cubs. Any rare time I hear about him from a Cubs fan its been mostly pity for what he went through in the heat of the moment or its in response to his name being brought up again (like when Kaminsky wore that Bartman jersey to the United Center and thought he was so funny). There were some idiots that treated him like horsefeathers that night but I feel like most of the Cubs fans who were idiots were over it within a few days. Doesn't make their behavior justified, but either way I haven't seen this scorn that you are speaking of.
  15. Eh, its a nice gesture overall. I always thought it was weird (but understandable) that he went completely off the grid after the incident, and that elusiveness contributed to the ongoing Bartman discussion over the years. If he had just went on a radio show, maybe did 1-2 interviews between 2003 and now, he would have been mostly forgotten by now. But getting a statement out of Bartman has been so difficult, everyone who doesn't follow the Cubs as closely as we do cast him as someone in hiding and his life ruined by what happened. From all accounts he's just some normal dude working some normal job, not a recluse. Maybe I'm way off the mark here, I dunno. Either way, good for him.
  16. Speaking of World Series Swag...
  17. More of a general Brewers musing, what do you think Theo would have done if in like 2013 he randomly found the Cubs 5.5 games up in the division at the all star break. I'm thinking he would have stuck to the plan and done exactly what the Brewers are doing with their fringe acquisitions because eventually Emilio Bonifacio and Scott Feldman were going to come back to earth, but a 5.5 game division lead is pretty big at the ASB, it would be tempting to go for it to some degree.
  18. If he's like me, that was the moment it went from 'cautiously optimistic but still not feeling great' to 'holy horsefeathers we're going to do this aren't we'? 1st and 2nd 0 outs down 3 is a good start but so many things could still go wrong, but 2nd and 3rd 0 outs down 2 and all the sudden a base hit ties it (thanks Willy!)
  19. StatCorner has Avila and Contreras as the 4th and 3rd worst catchers at pitch framing in 2017.
  20. weird stuff certainly does happen out west (You can't blame me for finding every possible opportunity to post 2016 playoff highlights)
