  1. Why do I feel less hopeful about making the playoffs now than when we were 5.5 games behind Milwaukee? We were tied with St Louis then as well
  2. Actually, they are a half game out, at the moment. And we'd still be a game ahead in the loss column. But yeah shitty when a team wins 9 straight games while you go 3-6
  3. The Cubs only have 1 series win this year against teams over .500 that aren't based in St Louis. 1-7-1 with that win being against LA in early April. I know that doesn't mean anything really at all but it'd be nice to feel good about winning a tough series for once.
  4. Can't believe I'd ever be in a position to be sick of Javy doing shitty things defensively. He's an error machine
  5. Bye bye sole position of first place (Trying this whole "give up on the game for no good reason" thing)
  6. The Cubs do know that they knocked this guy around for 8 runs in 3 innings like a week ago right?
  7. My kingdom for a hit with a runner in scoring position.
  8. I don't know why I'm following this game as it's clear the Cardinals will never lose again
  9. Doesn't Avila have a decent arm? I mean, it's not like Willson's, but it's alright. It'd be a bit different if we were left with Caratini and Miggy. I think Avila is actually throwing out a higher percentage of runners than Willy. Problem solved Gordo
  10. Sorry but 2 runs isn't likely to Lackey-proof the first inning much less the game
  11. Cardinals up 4-1. They are going on their 2005 Houston tear. All hope is lost, we shouldn't even play tonight
  12. Milwaukee and Pittsburgh winning so far. We could have 4 teams within 2 games by the end of the night. How exciting.
  13. Sweet Otani and Harper in one offseason will be the biggest FA haul ever. The only question is how Theo will convince Heyward to opt out.
  14. horsefeathers everyone who tells me I can't get excited because it was a meaningless preseason game. Being a Bears fan the last several years has been about as exciting as reading the phone book so I reserve the right to get overly pumped up about something that might look stupid down the road.
  15. Not able to watch. 9-9 for only 74 yards suggests a lot of short and intermediate throws? Is he only making safe reads or am I looking too much into it?
  16. Dexters turn to hit the go ahead grand slam. Cards up 7-3, pointed for a 4 game sweep of KC and about to enter the weekend 1 GB the Cubs
  17. If he sucks after like 2-3 games Mitch should just start.
  18. You've gotta be horsefeathering kidding me. I'm at the Nationals game tonight (not quite humble brag, let's call it a derwood). Tanner Roark has struggled all night despite giving up only 2 runs through 6 innings. He has given up 5 walks and a bomb to Stanton. The Nats are down 2-0 when the 8 hitter gets a leadoff double in B6. Roark comes up to the plate despite throwing 107 pitches and will be facing the top of the order for the 4th time to lead off the 7th. He lays down a sac bunt. What the actual horsefeathers Dusty?
  19. The more I think about it, winning like 85 games winning the division barely while several other teams get all the attention and then winning the NLDS would be the complete opposite of embarrassing
  20. Yep, this happened to Dexter last year IIRC
  21. Nah, he's in good hands here... Just ignore that I started the Schwarber thread, too. So Mojo is banned from starting any more player threads. Hey guys should I go ahead and start the injury update thread??
  22. There's like no scenario where I could be embarrassed about a group of players that just won the World Series. Disappointed and super frustrated? Absolutely. But, I also know they're going to be awesome again regardless of how this year goes and basebally things happen. A 100 win team the year before winning 15 less games with the same roster back and no major injuries until now would be pretty damn embarassing. The Yankees won 16 less games between 98-99 and another 11 less games between 99-00 with very similar rosters but I don't think any Yankees fans were embarrassed to win titles in all 3 seasons. Also maybe no devistating injuries but Hendricks missed almost 2 months, Zobrist a month and appears like the injury is going to torpedo the rest of his season, Heyward a couple of weeks, Russell is on the DL, and now Contreras will probably miss a few weeks at a minimum. We've definitely been hit harder than last year minus Schwarber but now that we're seeing him struggle to hit .200 I wonder how much of a loss he actually was.
  23. Follow up a 13-3 stretch with a 2-6 slump. Great stuff :(
  24. Not good. If it's the hammy which looks likely (unless a cramp maybe) he's probably missing a decent chunk of the remainder of the year and probably will be somewhat fragile with a chance of reinjury for the rest of this year.
