  1. So, I had a LONG day today and came to this thread to see how the Cubs were doing. Looked like doom and gloom so I was happily surprised to see them with a 2 run lead with only an inning to go. Let me present my day so we can all maybe get a grip on stuff. Day started out just fine, but on the way to work I ran over some kind of industrial sized tack. Tire held it together until I got to work. Once I got to work, I found out the project i spent the last 8 months working on won't amount to anything since my client filed for bankruptcy and stiffed me. Then my wife calls to say that her best friend's husband is going off the rails and won't leave the house, so she and her two kids might temporarily move into my basement. Managed to get the tire changed before parent-teacher conferences, but the principal sent a curt email to my wife about the PTA trying to make class sizes smaller, and combining that with her friend's situation and the reveal that my daughter is not so great at phonics at the present time (she is 5), my wife spent half of the conference and most of the night crying. Then, the parent of the next kid due up turned out to be an old co-worker of mine. I hadn't seen him in five years. ...he just got laid off earlier that day! Made for an awkward reunion. So anyhow, I think yall should chill out a bit.
  2. The whole "my thread has a direct effect on the outcome of the game" thing is fun to screw around with, but if you are using it to dictate who hosts a thread, then I start to wonder about your sanity. I guess the whole thing is silly anyhow, so whatever.
  3. I would assume it depends on how tired Kris's shoulder really is.
  4. Without having witnessed every RTP call that the Bears have been called for over the past decade, I would be stunned if one of them was close to as bad as either of the two Matthews just got dinged for. It is true that Clay has had a lot of questionable hits over his career (the one that jumps to mind is the "block" he layed on Russell Wilson after an interception, which really tested Russell's magic concussion water) but that doesn't really explain the NFL immediately claiming the two RTP calls on him being correct. The refs might have it out for him, but this is going to screw stuff up across the league. I mean, if you think its reasonable for a DL to stop in his tracks to make a "tackle" and then somehow not land on the QB: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24782945/william-hayes-miami-dolphins-tears-acl-trying-avoid-sack-flag Him acting like a bitch hasn't helped him.

I just hate Matthews and I love that he of all people is getting rung up for it. ...but think of his FAMILY!!!
  6. And you’ll be screaming when they’re flagged for a ridiculous RTP foul, especially it it may have influenced the outcome of the game. Bears have been getting flagged for that bs for years, it seems like Matthews has lived a very charmed life with regards to it. 7. What direction the QB is looking DOES NOT MATTER. He didn't lift him off the ground. He ran into him and he tackled him. It was a sack. If this is no longer a sack, then you simply aren't allowed to tackle the QB anymore. If that is what we want the rules to be...ok, fine. Just actually make that the rules. Two-hand touch, whatever. Just make the rules clear. Bears have legally tackled the QB 14 times so far

Just make the rules clear. The rule is simply "defenseless." Looking the other way is defenseless. I specifically outlined a way to sack the quarterback that doesn't involve a violent hit when he's not looking. You are seriously pretending it makes sense for him to come to nearly a full stop and ...I'm confused. You accused him of picking him up off his feet as if that was a thing you can't do, but you advocate gently picking up a 6'2 220 pound guy (while 320 pound guys are allowed to crush you on your path to said large guy) and gently placing him on the ground for a sack? The rule which was cited by the NFL has nothing to do with a defenseless player, btw. You MIGHT even be right that this is indeed roughing the passer because Clay landed on Smith when he tackled him, but THAT IS WHAT A TACKLE IS!!! The percentage of tackles where you land on the guy you tackle has to be around 50% right? Clay didn't make an attempt to lift and drive him into the ground gratutously. He didn't arc higher into the air to droive his weight into him. He simply tackled him. He hit him hard, sure, but it was a pure tackle. The rules are horrifically dumb, and if they keep enforcing it in this way...well, I serious looked to see if there were any Austrailian Rules football teams that wear green and yellow so I could gently ween myself onto just watching the Cubs and speed chess matches, but there weren't any.
  9. EDIT: wrong thread

  11. Stone really stepped up to fill the sniffling void there...
  12. Hawk is currently essentially crying for having stolen years of time from Sox fans over the years. No joke. It was with two outs in the bottom of the 9th if you care to hear it.
  13. Stone and Hawk are gushing over the Cubs? That's weird. I was about to type a "nevermind, Hawk dogging on Rizzo for not getting to a routine grounder fast enough, which he pitched to Hendricks for an easy out"...but then he and Stone talked about how good he is defensively, and how tough of an out he is with 2 strikes in addition to his power. Earlier, Stone was talking about how much potential Baez has, and Hawk cut him off to say that he's already clearly a star. I swear, sh1t is cray.
  14. I think he should be our Game 1 starter. He looks great today. Not gunna argue. I mean, any of our top 4 (with the exception of Q) makes sense depending on match up, imo.
  15. I know everyone is watching the Bears by now, and I'm tilting from my Packers...I didn't switch the feed off Stone and Hawk, and they are weirdly gushing about the Cubs for the last inning.
  16. I'm honestly considering not watching football anymore. I can't take it anymore.
  17. I hope that prompts an emergency unconditional release.
  18. Today is my birthday, and I will always think back fondly of this thread. Thank you everyone. [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo] And for r_mack and Jehr, I just hope that they can respect my unspoken opinions of them as people.
  19. Two things about Machado do not excite me. He will demand to play SS and he sucks at it. Also, it means we have to keep Almora around, and he sucks at hitting.
  20. I remembered really liking that place, and it was better than I remembered.
  21. how the eff are you guys thinking my comment was serious I'm cracking up over here. Hey, not everyone here is a genius, myself included obviously. I got triggered.
  22. Dafuq is that? Edited because I didn't see there was half a page of blowback already vented.
  23. Added bonus of having the division close to stitched up: we get to play spoilers with the Cards in the last series of the season with hardly any stress attached!
