  1. True, but no one has been arguing for stretching a double into a triple as the result of hustling. then remind me what's the point in hammering on Aramis for his double? Thinking you hit a homerun when it really is a double increases the chances you get thrown out at second. It is one of my pet peeves. I forgot he got thrown out You forgot I said "increases your chances."
  2. Heh, that was my immediate reaction to this. This was my thought too. I really doubt it matters much really. Sori will be back in 2 weeks and the club will continue to roll on the back of Lee. At least we can enjoy an much more balanced lineup while he is out Does anyone know what the Cubs record was with Soriano on the DL last year? 10-13 I believe

  4. Because Z was running? and any runner would have hustled to try and beat the double play. Now we're catching on! So hustling does help a team win. it doesn't hurt. now, getting on base, hitting home runs, pitching well, and playing good defense helps a team win about 5 million times more. i'll take a slow runner who gets on base and hits home runs over a hustler who sucks at getting on base and doesn't hit for power any day of the week. but you're right. hustling CAN help a team win. but it's about 10th on the list of things that help a team win. I'll take a fast runner who gets on base and hits homers over anyone. I just want Soriano and Ramirez to be better players. Lou has said that the Cubs need to get out to a fast start. I agree. That's why you hustle which can win you games. Of course it is 10th on the list. But doing the little things can win you games. I don't think the Cubs are going to blowout the Brewers. Last year the division came down to one game. Some games are decided by hustling.

  6. There is running, just not very much of it. So when it is your chance to run, make the most of it.
  7. Johnson is a platoon player. Look at his L/R splits. One thing this injury should NOT do is parlay a platoon player into an everyday spot. I think the real reason why Murton isn't called up is because he has very similar splits as Reed. Which begs the question, why did we sign Reed when we already have Murton? The Lou factor. I don't think Lou likes him. Reed has a little more pop than Murton. How do you figure? Reed has a .409 career SLG, Murton a .455 You are right. Murton homers once every 35 or so at bats. Johnson every 50. Back to the platoon thing. There are only three everyday OF players. If one gets hurt, someone who is not an everyday player has to play. Usually it is a platoon player.
  8. Yes. That's how he has gotten injured in the past. We are trying to stay healthy here. brb i have to pick up the pieces of brain matter on the floor because my head just exploded Did you forget how ARam got hurt last year loafing then running hard to first?

  10. How'd the Cubs win Sunday? A phantom home run by DeRosa? That too. But didn't that tie it and not win it?
  11. Yes. That's how he has gotten injured in the past. We are trying to stay healthy here.
  12. Because Z was running hard? Fixed

  14. But looking at the stats, Patterson is having a poor spring too. I think I just lost a friend.
  15. I never said that he should have tried to stretch it into a triple.
  16. How'd the Cubs win Sunday? an error? Caused by...you are so close! a bad throw by utley? Why did Utley say he made a bad throw? Why did DeRosa say he made a bad throw?

  18. How'd the Cubs win Sunday?
  19. I think he would have too. I have seen him do it. I just want to see him do it consistently.
  20. I was wrong on that. I don't know who will be playing everyday. My point is only that it is not as if some huge injustice has been done to Matt Murton when the difference between what he brings compared to what Patterson brings and the rotations involved are incredibly negligible at best.
  21. Except hit home runs and play average defense. Murton knows he needs to do this to play everyday in the bigs. Unfortunately he just can't. Wow, you're just knocking them out of the park left and right today. What do you think is the real reason Murton isn't starting or in the bigs? Does Jim Hendry not like red heads? Murton isn't a flawless player without holes in his game, but neither is Eric Patterson by any means. Each has their own individual strengths and contributions they can bring to the team. The difference is that Hendry doesn't value Murton's strengths (OBP, Quality At Bats), but values Eric Patterson's (Speed, Left Handed). Granted. But Patterson will not be playing everyday. Fontenot will. If Murton is brought up, he would most likely be playing everyday. That exposes him more. Then the question is why in the world would anyone want Fontenot playing everyday over Murton playing every day. Because Fontenot doesn't have to play everyday. Johnson can play left and DeRosa can play 2B.
  22. How did the Cubs win on Sunday? Zambrano hit a grounder, hustled to first base, and Utley threw it wildly to first. An error occurred, and the Cubs scored. Utley admitted that he saw Zambrano running hard and that made him rush his throw. With the Cubs' lack of solid starting pitching, the race for the division will be tight. Every game will be important. That's why you hustle. Do you realize that you can say the exact same thing about how much Ramirez getting hurt would harm the team if his "hustle" managed to cause an injury? The guy has leg issues and, on top of it, he's slow. Asking him to leg out every ball he hits is tantamount to wanting injury prone pitchers to pitch through pain. Nothing good can come of it. The situations are not the same. First of all, you don't know if Ramirez is injured right now. Second, how did ARam get hurt last year? By running slow to first, seeing that there would be a play, trying to turn it on, and then hurting himself. Do you want Kerry Wood to not throw sliders because he might get hurt? If Ramirez hits a gapper, I am not so much concerned that he jogs into second. I don't like him having to run hard to second because he stood and watched what he thought was a homer. I guess I wish Zambrano would have just jogged into second so that Utley wouldn't have had to make an easy play, thus prolonging the game just so that Zambrano doesn't hurt himself.
