  1. Pierre-CF Furcal-SS Lee-1B Ramirez-3B Bradley-RF Barrett-C Murton-LF Cedeno-SS 2 SS's Hoops? Good hitters would dominate that defense and pull it to where the 2nd baseman should be every time. ;) However, if that lineup is realistic (and it is), then I don't see how we couldn't go for this one, either: Furcal-SS Bradley-CF Lee-1B Giles-RF Ramirez-3B Walker-2B Murton-LF Barrett-C
  2. 3b last i heard He is playing SS in the Dominican Winter League, apparently. 3B will be kinda crowded since he seems to be advancing through the system at the same rate as LaRoche. I thought LaRoche was on the other LA...
  3. No mention at all of Pierre at the 3:20 ET update - only Cubs mention was the Howry deal.
  4. mlbtraderumors.com Now, considering the last update on Rotoworld is this yet this site claims they're reporting it's done, I don't know what value to put in this. Pierre rumors have been active all ofseason, there's no doubt in my mind that he will eventually be a Cub, I just don't know when that'll be.
  5. When I first read that, I thought it said "My dad," and I believe you, lol
  6. But does Hendry care? Nope, not when he already have a similar player in Matt Murton already on the roster. 8 Matt Murton's may be the best lineup the Cubs have had in recent memory.
  7. Rafael Furcal - SS - Braves According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Dodgers have joined the chase for free agent Rafael Furcal. With Cesar Izturis signed through 2007 and plenty of young infielders on the way up, there's no way the Dodgers should think about giving Furcal $10 million per year. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't. The Braves, Cubs, Mets and Dodgers seem to be the four clubs in the running for Furcal. Other teams, including Kansas City, expressed interest, but agent Paul Kinzer said he was honest and told them they had no chance of signing Furcal. It's possible that Furcal will choose a team next week. Nov. 24 - 12:36 am et Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution
  8. A lot of people on this board just expect all-stars at every position, they can't accept that it's not going to be that way... It's not that. I got in a huge fight with some people during the summer about how Pierre was overrated. I don't think Pierre is that good, but in this scenario, I'd rather trade for him than overpay for Furcal. It's just funny how things can change. I'm not singling out any one person, it's just the thing I've noticed over the years from posting here. People are satisfied with good options, they like to dream about the best whether it's realistic or not. Another thing that drives me nuts about that is that we have no idea what goes on between GMs. If some guy is continually suggesting to trade for Player X, how do we know Hendry hasn't asked about him anyway and was told he isn't avaliable? In that case, what's he supposed to do about it?

  10. I don't understand all the Todd Walker rumors. All the proposals have him going somewhere for a corner OF, but when the alternative at 2B is Neifi Perez or even Ronny Cedeno, I don't like it. We've got a bargain on Walker and we want to trade him?
  11. 670thescore.com Yeah, thats what I'm doing. Cant find my radio. I can't find the link to listen from that site. Well, I'm an idiot.

  13. Anywhere to Listen Live to the Score online?
  14. can we afford Giles with Pierre, Furcal, Eyre, and Howry? I don't have the payroll numbers exactly, but I thought we had decided we had close to $35M to spend. So I'm thinking -2.7 for Eyre, -4 for Howry, -5 for Pierre (arbitration estimate), -8 for Furcal, that leaves $15.3 left.
  15. Since Giles by all means sounds affordable (I would do up to 13/13/13/14 with the 14 a T.O. that vests based on plate appearances), and because all signs point to us getting Pierre soon and eventually Furcal (maybe), then this could prove to be a very successful offseason. 1. Bullpen (done) 2. Offense (Pierre, Furcal, Lee, Giles, Ramirez, Walker, Murton, Barrett) 3. Starting pitcher? 4. Bench (Mabry, etc.) Even if I disagree with the order that its being completed (I would have gotten the others before the bullpen to assure that we'd have that money for them), Hendry has a plan and he's moving on it.
  16. I would have no problem giving Eyre and Howry this kind of money usually but Hendry has it backwards. These deals would be fine, had we already filled our other holes like RF, CF, SS, and perhaps a SP. Because in that scenario, we'd have our major holes filled and we'd know exactly how much money we have left for the bullpen. The problem with spending all this money on relievers now is that it could eventually be the difference maker in not getting a player at an offensive position that we really need. Giles may end up costing $10 million, which we could afford usually now couldn't because we have $7 million tied into two relievers. It's a lot easier to fill bullpen spots for cheap either through the system, via trade or late during free agency, but if we lose out on some offensive positions there may be no other viable option for them.
  17. Closers=most overrated "position" in baseball. Sign a middle reliever to close, maybe you'll get lucky and he'll be dominant, but regardless you could find one for $3 million a season that converts at a solid clip in comparison to ridiculous $10M/season closers.
  18. I think power is overrated. That lineup would score runs. Runs win baseball games.
  19. I'll take Bradley by process of elimination. Bradley is a better value for the buck and we'd hardly have to give up anything to trade for him.
  20. I don't trust any relievers with long-term deals. Howry was signed to a minor league contract two years ago, now he wants 3 years, $10 million. Relievers are so inconsistent, you never know what to expect. Part of that is that they are all failed starters at some level or another - the bullpen was their last chance to remain a pitcher.
  21. The Cubs were interested in trading for him last year before he re-signed with the Twins. He was thought to be avaliable last year so the Twins could re-sign Shannon Stewart, he almost certainly will not be back with Minnesota this year (I think Kubel's healthy this year and is ready to play).
  22. Someone on MarlinsBaseball.com said "I heard Patterson and Aardsma." Certainly seems feasible. I'd really like a 1-2 of Pierre-Furcal, what an upgrade that would be over past years. Those two could strive at Wrigley, but most importantly they'd get on in front of Lee and Ramirez. I really believe Pierre's season last year was a fluke, I expect him to go back to 2003 or 2004 form. Actually he was pretty good last season as well aside from the first two months of the season.
  23. I too find it mindboggling that the Cubs are after Furcal so much at possibly $9 million a season when all indications say Giles can be had for $11-12 million. Giles is the type of player that does almost everything right, so I don't expect much of a decline from him from the next 3 years. Furcal is just past prime age (27), I think a 5 year deal for him might be more of a gamble than a 3 year deal for Giles...thoughts?
