  1. Remember when we all we thinking our top of the order last year would be Furcal-Pierre? Yeah... glad that didn't happen.
  2. I don't think anyone can complain about the Soriano deal if he ends up making only $7M per more than Pierre...
  3. This just in, Alou grounds out to third base. Film at 11. Check swing ground out
  4. I would maybe get creative with a Dombrowski-esque contract and get injury opt-out clauses in there. I know Boras would go for it since he's done it for both Pudge and Maggs. 1st Year: $12M 2nd Year: $12M Injury Clause based on cumulative plate appearances over the first two years, gives us a team option $16M or $4M buyout. If he stays healthy then the remaining 2 years are guarenteed. 3rd Year: $13M 4th Year: $13M 5th Year: Team Option, $16M or $2M buyout Totals: Either 2 years, $28M ($12+12+$4 buyout), 4 years, $56M ($12+$12+$13+$13+$2), or 5 years, $72M Either way he averages the $14M per that Boras is looking for, seems to me from past contracts he has negotiated he is more concerned with getting the money he wants each year, as long as the potential is there for the number of years he wants...
  5. I'm working on a paper for a class trying to explain how the changes in a baseball have resulted in more offensive production over the years. http://www.nfldraftforecast.com/BGSU/2006-07/Chemistry/Baseball Paper/tentative.xls Taking a look at that data there seems to be no correlation between years and offensive production. What stats out there might support the dead ball era? Also, does anyone know of any links outlining the changes to the ball?
  6. A solid 12,000 showed up to watch the no-hitter and the Marlins change of the Wild Card Nice job, Florida fans
  7. Miller pitched a scoreless inning against the Yankees today.
  8. http://www.nfldraftforecast.com/BGSU/2006-07/Chemistry/Baseball Paper/tentative.xls There's an Excel spreadsheet... I went wrong somewhere - looking at Wikipedia and expansion/contraction I thought I had it all right - yet somehow I only ended up with 15 NL teams. Any help is appreciated.
  9. Ditka was in the booth that day. It was crazy how everything happened the way it did.
  10. I am writing a paper for a class studying the material inside the baseball and the affects it may have had in the offensive output decade-by-decade. For example, in the "dead ball era" runs were at a premium compared to now. So what I'm looking for is a table displaying the runs/year and possible years where there a big jump is shown - possibly due to new material in the ball? Additionally, if someone has a site showing average BA year-by-year that would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know some good history of the baseball (possible changes) and how that could have played a role in offensive production? This is just a tentative idea for a paper but what do you guys think - does it have potential? It's something I'm seriously considering doing if I can get enough evidence that the ball was at least a factor in offensive output.
  11. No. (too many teams to catch)
  12. But I thought they were looking for bullpen help?
  13. I've just been told this...sorry I don't have a link or anything.
  14. That same year Perez was traded for Tejada in my fantasy league, I recall.
  15. What is the date a recently signed FA can be traded without his permission?
  16. Guzman can play SS too, I think. At least that's what he was brought up as.
  17. Incompetence of management
  18. Could probably get more if we wanted until the offseason. That Angels deal, though, is very attractive getting Mathis, Kendrick, and McPherson.
  19. The thing about Lane is that even though is average is .205, his OBP is .330. So you figure even getting his average up to .225 would raise his OBP to .350, which is much better than league average. And the difference between .205 and .225 is just 1 hit in 50 at bats.
  20. Most GMs make between $1-2 million a year
  21. Kenny Rogers might get the start for the AL. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2510423
  22. The pitch almost took his head off.
  23. For Minor League OF, name wasn't said -BBTN
