  1. I like Maddon using his best reliever for the top of the order. Now he has Boxberger for PH-LH-LH-Switch and lefties are 0-for-their-last-43 against Boxberger.
  2. Martinez is going to interview on Wednesday.
  3. English isn't his first language. No matter how clear they though they were being, he still might have been confused. Just want to chime in here -- the Cubs almost certainly have someone in their baseball operations department who speaks Spanish.
  4. Prince to Detroit is good for the Cubs, the Tigers were a legitimate threat for Cespedes
  5. TonyPauline Tony Pauline Sources told us Matt Szczur/WR/Villanova has decided to forego a career in the NFL. The Cubs tripled their offer to Szczur. More later
  6. That was obviously a make-up call for calling Damon safe in the 8th
  7. I have no sympathy for people driving over the legal limit simply because of how much it takes to get there. http://depts.washington.edu/mcsurvey/bal/index.php I'm 21, 6'1", 282. I'm a big guy. And I'm a college student, so I drink a lot and my tolerance is high. Let's say I drink from 10 p.m. to bar close (2 a.m.) -- four hours -- According to the chart (obviously, can never be completely accurate), I can have 10 drinks and be under the legal limit (I'd be at .069). To be THREE TIMES over the legal limit, I'd need 20 drinks in 2 hours. Look at the chart then consider defending someone driving drunk. To be over a .008 you need to consume a lot of alcohol, to even think about driving over the legal limit and especially three times over is completely idiotic. Also, the ripping on hawkeyecub is completely unfounded. Three beers won't do anything for anyone, even if you're drinking for the first time ... although I'd doubt you could finish them as you won't like the taste. Rest In Peace.
  8. In the NFL they have the revenue sharing which helps make them profitable. Serious question here in that what does the MLB do that is unique and strengthens the structure of the league and its profitability?
  9. My friend just texted me and said he signed with the Angels for 5-years, not sure on how much it's worth.
  10. Tigers have 10 days to trade or release him. Either way, I'm guessing he ends up with the Cubs. The Tigers also promoted Cameron Maybin, their top prospect, to the big leagues. Rumor has it he'll be in the lineup tonight, with Pettitte starting for the Yankees.
  11. I was scoring for my sister's softball today and this scenario happened: Runner at first, hitter bunts (intended sacrifice), catcher throws to second, but the runner is safe at second, and there's no play at first. Is this a single? Doesn't seem right b/c if the catcher throws to first, the batter is most likely out, yet the sacrifice is still successful. This actually happened in back-to-back plays during this game, what would you score?
  12. Sounds interesting. I've basically narrowed my choices down to the changes in the CBA from 1974 to 1994 to 2006 and how they've changed the game or what another poster said: "What about the effect of the influx of foreign-born, non-English speaking players and the effect on the marketability of baseball?" Either way, I'd be interesting in reading yours if you wouldn't mind sending it to me.
  13. Do you still have the one on steroids saved? That's not something I'm interested in researching and writing on but I would be interested in reading this. For the person that I asked if I had the salary cap paper still on my computer, sorry, I don't. I use the public computers here at school and save my work by emailing it to myself, but I clean out my inbox regularly so that's not in there anymore.
  14. Thanks for the link. I think I might do baseball's CBA and the big changes from 1974 to 1994 to 2006, and whether or not they've been good for the game.
  15. For one of my classes we are looking into writing a third research paper. Already this semester I've done: -Sabermetrics and how teams utilizing them have an advantage over teams that are not -Baseball and salary cap - how a salary cap will not improve parity in baseball Any suggestions for a third? I really want it to be baseball related... but I'm not able to think of any possible research topics right now.
  16. I am writing a paper for a class arguing why baseball should not have a salary cap. Some reasons include: -Not an overly high correlation between payroll and wins (price per win). I remember reading an article on this somewhere, couldn't find it, but with more research I'm sure I could. -All owners have the ability to spend more than they do I'm interested in any other thoughts on this subject, even those who feel there should be a salary cap. Thanks.
  17. he never said that part. I thought that was pretty out there for him to say (atleast) THAT part. . I got the quotes from a Tigers forum, after listening to it he didn't say "and he stunk" but he did rip him pretty good
  18. http://wdfn.com/cc-common/podcast.html Part 3 of the Interview, first he talks about Shelton/Casey then there's the question about Neifi
  19. -"We made a terrible mistake with Perez." -"It's my fault." -"The scouts screwed up." -"We'll see if he makes the team" WDFN "Stoney & Wojo" asked: "What do you say to the Tiger fans that ask,Why did you trade for and play Neifi Perez?" Leyland: "Well, that's a good question because Neifi Perez played terrible and he stunk and that's my fault."
  20. I'm all for trading Jones for nothing if it means we're going to acquire a CF by the name of Ryan Church.
  21. I missed the end of it but he had a rumor that the Cubs would get Jennings for Jones and Marmol in a 3-team trade.
  22. I'm writing a chemistry paper on the Materials in a baseball, how the baseball has changed over the years, and how this has effected offensive output. Anyone have some info, or sites that could be helpful?
  23. If Wolf is signing this early then that's an indication to me he's getting a great deal for himself. Combined, him signing before some of the others plus the fact that it's the Dodgers signing him, makes me believe he'll be getting much more than we might expect.
