  1. Haha. I saw those too, but it seems that is a different Connor Murphy who is a bodybuilder.
  2. He hits sometimes (I guess)
  3. Before the draft, I didn't want Trubisky at all--not that I knew anything or had spent much time looking into him. It just seems like there are QB's every year that are thought of as sure 1st round QB's after their first year starting in college, only to completely fall down the charts after a second year playing in college. I didn't freak out like so many people with what they gave up though. I realize it is only one spot to move up, but the extra picks they gave up seem like a little more than what you give to move up in the second round. The first round trade ups for a QB seem to always require future or multiple firsts. I know it was from 15 to 1 last year, but didn't the rams give up 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds? I believe the RGIII trade required 3 firsts and a second (and people like to laugh at it now, but the rams haven't exactly benefited all that much from the trade while if RGIII had stayed healthy, it would have been a great trade for the redskins. It certainly looked that way after the first year). The bucs gave up a third and fourth to move up to take a kicker in the second round last year. The bears this year got two fourths and a sixth just to move back a few spots in the second round--and nobody nationally freaks out about that. I guess it comes down to if you think the bears played themselves and gave up picks unnecessarily or if you think there is a chance that they could have missed out on the guy they wanted. Also, I hope they truly wanted him and not just because he was their top QB in a year they were near the top of the draft. Anyway, this article below made me feel a bit better about Trubisky as a prospect: http://presnapreads.com/2017/04/12/evaluating-quarterback-prospects-mitchell-trubisky-and-deshaun-watson/
  4. It is on the CSN website. That is how I saw it. Search for CSN Reign Men and you will find it. I think the first video is a trailer, but you will see the one that is about 48 minutes long. Edit: here it is. http://www.csnchicago.com/reign-men
  5. I now imagine Theo's pride in his son talking about baseball is like when Homer realizes Lisa is good at hockey.
  6. Yeah, I mean the order doesn't really matter and I totally prefer making the way through the rounds of the playoffs so that the list has a better flow, but this grand slam might even be top 2 or 3 for me. Going into that game with Lester (a cy young candidate left hander) vs the dodgers (a team that can't hit any left hander) and them not even having one of their best two starters going felt like a must win--especially with kershaw looming in game 2. Having felt in control of that game the entire time only to see it slip away was one of the low points of the playoffs. Then having montero just crush that ball... it wasn't just any old home run, it was a glorious home run derby like shot, and like others said the call was great. I think only the zobrist hit and final out of Game 7 rival the emotion swing I felt here. Plus even with the zobrist hit, the game didn't feel over so I was still really nervous. This one made the game into a party the rest of the way.
  7. I haven't attended any memorable cubs games, but I did attend Game 7 of the 2001 World Series between the Yankees and Diamondbacks. I got tickets early on in the series when they opened up Game 7 thinking that I would sell them and try to make money (I was a sophomore in college at the time) and seeing that Game 1 tickets were going for crazy prices on the secondary market. It didn't seem like it was going to even come, but then those crazy Yankee comebacks made it happen. When the day got there, there was no way I wasn't going to go. Oddly enough, I have had three separate times where strangers in public said "hey, you were at game 7," because of a crowd shot used a couple of times in the championship video and the HBO documentary Nine Innings from Ground Zero.
  8. Me too. Not terribly different but so much better. I love the blue waistband and trim around the neck and sleeves. I also love the patch on the left arm so much more than the current one. http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Tampa+Bay+Rays+v+Chicago+Cubs+L5Bmtui_pu7l.jpg I would also kill to have our alternates be the ones below instead of the current blue ones: http://www.trbimg.com/img-54f47311/turbine/ct-cubs-andre-dawson-flashback-spt-0301-20150228 And I think I may be in the minority if I remember correctly from a conversation a few years ago, but I always liked the 1990 road uni's. I am sure all 3 of these choices have nothing to do with basically them being the uniforms I grew up with.
  9. Probably not helpful but there is basically every relevant minute of the season available on YouTube in some really well produced highlight videos. I can't recall anyone ever producing a licensed full season highlight DVD for a championship team, but if you have a chromecast or something you can fireup videos for hours on YouTube. Yeah, as for Youtube, I have used clipconverter or keepvid to download some of my favorite videos and then put them into a Cubs folder I created in Plex. It is one of my favorite things I have done. I have more than a few cubs videos from the past two years. Here are some of my favorites from this year. I like this one for regular season highlights: [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo] I like this one a lot for world series highlights. It has highlights from all games: [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo] Here is one for the NLCS: [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo]
  10. I think he just has the opposite of resting bitch face. Like he he isn't really smiling, but it just looks that way. He has that look a lot when while he is swinging, too.
  11. [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo] I think I am even more excited for this season to start. I can't wait for the regular season where wins put me in a good mood for the rest of the day and losses put me in a slightly negative mood as opposed to the post-season where losses make me suicidal and wins help to stave of suicidal thoughts for one day. But as David mentioned, now the post-season will be a little easier to take as well knowing we just won. I think if we ended up losing Game 7, I would feel worse about the regular season. I remember in the moments after the Davis home run, I never had the thought of "the cubs are going to do it to us again" like you heard a lot of people on the radio talk about. My immediate thoughts were "it is so hard to get to this point... you can be the best team and lose in the first round very easily. Now we are going to have to wait through an offseason, go through 6 months of a regular season just to hope to get a chance to get this far again when we had it right there this year." I think the regular season would have felt like a chore we just had to get through. Now it is going to be so enjoyable.
  12. Does anyone know if the 8-disc blu-ray set would include the regular world series video as well as the 8 full games?
  13. This reminded me of something I was thinking about before Game 1. I imagined a conversation between Schwarber and La Stella when Schwarber came in to take his possible roster spot going something like the one Homer had with Darryl Strawberry: TLS: hey, you're Kyle Schwarber KS: Yes TLS: You're a left handed hitter KS: Yes TLS: I'm a left handed hitter, too KS: So... TLS: Well are you better than me? KS: Well... I haven't played all year, but yes
  14. I figured you were expecting "long ding dong johnson."
  15. Hard to see them moving Javy off of second at this point. I can't imagine any Cubs pitcher being happy with Javy not at 2B. Much less someone like Lester. Obviously you are fine with him at second, but didn't someone show a spray chart of lester's ground balls a week or two ago where most of his ground balls against go to 3rd? However, most of the Dodgers ground balls go to 2nd and that is probably somewhat of a factor as to why he was playing 2nd instead of the usual 3rd when Lester pitches. However, I do think the best defense is both he and Bryant in the infield with Zobrist in the outfield.
  16. Seeing a lineup like this takes me back to the opening day when Angel fans referred to it as a video game lineup. Back when Schwarber was healthy and we thought Heyward would be as good as he had in the past. Even if he is rusty, I love what his name does to the lineup.
  17. Definitely. And if Contreras is in the lineup instead of Heyward and the decision is Schwarber vs Montero or Soler... give me schwarber. Nothing would surprise me with him.
  18. I should have said I don't think everyone's responses were over the top. Most probably weren't actually. Responding that they realize he might be rusty but are still excited is fine. Your posts were fine. David saying there is a whole lot of results in between useless and amazing is obviously true, and yet good to remember. But pretending he is going to be sitting there like Lieutenant Dan in the bar if the Cubs win the world series was a bit ridiculous. When he used the word blind he was saying kyle will *probably* struggle -- which again is not a crazy idea. I may be wrong, but I don't think he said it was a horrible decision and that he would be happy if he is wrong. Anyway, I know when posting back and forth, sometimes we overreact to what the other person is actually saying--on both sides. As I was reading through the past few pages (as someone who wasn't in the back and forth), it just seemed strange that the thought caused that much of a reaction and lasted as long as it did. But now I am just dragging it out and I don't want to do that.
  19. The reactions to USSoccer are a bit over the top. He didn't say anything that bad--or really even bad at all. I am as excited as anyone Schwarber will be playing. I have the same thoughts as IMB in that I don't even really care if he struggles a bit, I am glad he is on the roster and will at least get to feel part of the run. I am going to be so pumped to see him walk up to the plate. But it isn't crazy to say there might be a better option to DH--most specifically if Willson is kept on the bench. But again, as others have pointed out, there is no reason to think that this front office isn't making much more informed decisions than we are. There are times when ganging up on a poster is warranted--mostly if their take includes offensive slurs, but this seems out of place. Anyway, back to being excited.
