  1. FWIW (nothing) its actually the 2nd worst possible outcome, although the chances of 4 teams jumping the Bulls rather than just 3 was pretty tiny. 7th pick was actually the 2nd most likely pick for the Bulls to have ended up with statistically (after the 6th pick)
  2. Yeah that one was so unexpected especially after he missed a meatball the pitch before and the count was 0-2. So awesome. Yeah, that probably has to be number 1 for me. The Cubs were 0-7 in their last 7 NLCS games, with the previous year's sweep fresh in our minds. The dodgers had what, their third best starter going and we had Lester--who wasn't just really good that year, but a lefty facing the dodgers who couldn't hit any lefties at all. So much so that didn't the giants just call up a few random minor league lefties for a series and shut them out the whole weekend that year? If there was ever a must win game early in a series, I felt like it was that one with Kershaw and Hill ready for Games 2 and 3. We have a 3-1 lead that game that while not great, felt somewhat comfortable knowing we still had another lefty in Chapman to shut it down. They load the bases with no outs in the 8th. Now I am freaking out. Chapman comes in and strikes out the next two batters and I feel good again--we are actually getting out of it. Then Gonzalez ties it with a single up the middle. One of the most awful feelings I have ever had. Then to have Montero up in the big spot felt like it was pointless. I don't know if I have ever gone from so miserable to so happy so quickly. I couldn't fall asleep and just stayed up until 2 a.m. watching the highlights over and over again on MLB Network.
  3. They will still want to hold off the Saints for #1 seed and home field in the possible NFC Championship, though.
  4. During the NLCS that year, when frustrating things would happen, my wife would occasionally hand me my 4 month old daughter to hold to sort of calm me down. I noticed that whenever I was holding her, good things would happen. Of course this was coincidental, but just in case, I wasn't going to mess with it. So, prior to NLCS Game 6, I told her I was holding her from the start. I literally didn't put her down the entire game. My left arm was like a cramped claw when I finally put her down after the game (and in to the next day). I was also way more emotional after NLCS Game 6 than WS Game 7 (maybe because Game 7 emotions turned from oh my god we are going to win it, to please don't blow this game I will never get over it). I almost had to remind myself there was more to play.
  5. Those were the kind of takes that would have struck out Kyle schwarber.
  6. I think one of the most surprising facts I have encountered in life was learning a few years ago that Rod Beck was only 29 years old that season. Like I know it wouldn't make sense, but I think if you gave me no time to think, my first response would be he was 47.
  7. One of the first things that jumped out at me watching Khalil mack highlight videos right after we traded for him was how non-violent his sacks usually were. For as much havoc as he causes, he almost always drags them down with arm tackles, even to the point where he moves his body so he hits the ground first and just pulls them down. It was refreshing (not in a "hey he won't get penalties" way, but in a "i don't feel dirty watching that" sort of way). I am totally fine if football moves that direction.
  8. Brewers are 14 games over .500 in 1-run games. Cubs are 1 game over .500.
  9. So in the last two games they have had the would be tying run trip and fall around third base and now a ball that wouldn't be a home run bounce out of the defenders glove up on top of the wall and roll over it for a home run. Unbelievable.
  10. 3 runs so far this inning. Murphy hit one the LF should have caught- scored 1, put 2 in scoring position. Zobrist hit one up the middle to score 2.
  11. Chavez is the most real-life example of the Steve Buscemi gif I have ever seen.
  12. I also hope this trade has something to say about what they think of the offense/Trubisky. We haven't had much to see of the first string in the preseason, but maybe things have progressed faster than they might have originally thought and began to think the offense is going to be good enough to really go for it now.
  13. Yeah, he seems to get ahead a lot and then throws the same garbage 2-3 pitches that aren’t close and every count goes full. Mix it up! That was my meathead take, too; too often it feels like when he gets to 2 strikes he has no idea what to do next. I have to start a lot of games late that I DVR'd. Earlier in the year I realized that every time he gets the count to 0-2, I immediately fast forward until the inevitable 3-2 count.
  14. Man I love Friday day game wins. Can watch tonight with sort of a no pressure feeling for other games.
  15. I haven't had a chance to watch the game yet (DVR'd it) and poked in to just see the active topics but not spoil the game for myself. I saw the game thread was only 3 pages as of a few minutes ago and figured Lester probably got shelled and everyone checked out early. Nice to see that wasn't the case.
  16. I have nothing to back this up, but I feel like innings are always bad when Dempster joins the booth.
