  1. Oh noes. By the deadline some contender will come a'knockin so long as he heats up and stays healthy.
  2. Lol. The overwhelming Cub fan reaction to that trade...from what I read because I wasn't overly involved in the thread here...was atrocious. Never have I seen so much outrage over losing a few mid-20's bench options. It convinced me that prospects, as valuable as they are, can be ridiculously overvalued and smart FOs with money can take advantage of that. Here we see it in the case of Alex Torres being way too much for a 28 year old starting C who can it.
  3. This too...was going to say this. Also, I'd rather have Grayson Garvin than Torres. Really wanted the Cubs to draft him last year.
  4. Alex Torres + something right? I like Torres, but I'd hope for more with Soto. We are talking about a starting C who can hit... Seriously? We are talking the 4th - 5th best prospect in a loaded farm system. I was joking when I typed that even, you are not getting that for Soto. Jesus so Soto isn't even worthy of a 24 year old short lefty SP with control problems because he's highly ranked in the Rays farm system? Who should I hope the Rays gift us peasants with? Nick Barnese? Alex Cobb? Some other arm half a step up from Zach Rosscup?

  6. I just dove right in without doing all out thinking...Didn't consider that they'd built the bullpen internally, which they most likely will...Forgot two of the young SPs worth keeping (I'm high on Shark still)...weirdly enough I included James Russell...big wtf.
  7. See that's what I'm thinking...IIRC the Rays are starting the oldest Molina, who's been a career backup. We need pitching...they have Davis out of the rotation... Know you weren't talking to me but assume this is midseason and Soto has met the ideal conditions to trade him.
  8. Sure, but Guzman couldn't even get out of the minors unscathed....That said, sure he'd be the #2 in this fantasy.
  9. Completely forgot pen arms...I figure they'll do the bullpen internally because smart teams do that. For instance, I really like Beliveau's future here...Dolis with some more polish....etc Then there's Shark...who I also forgot.
  10. Not digging through this thread (so much anger)...If Soto picks it up before the trade deadline how willing should be Cubs be to make a trade involving him? You have to figure that as a sub-30 catcher who can hit he's one of the most interesting pieces of bait this team has.
  11. Wow brain freeze. Didn't even THINK of Garza. So 2.5 for sure...
  12. Castro for sure. Up in the air: Russell - Who don't like relieving Russell? Jackson Vitters Rizzo Baez So one and some prayers...I guess two with Russel, who's a least actually a successful young big leaguer.
  13. Wow was going to say he threw the most innings but...Wow [expletive] the voters on that. Prior really got shafted...can't believe I forgot that because 15 year old me would know this and be pissed. Thanks for the further Prior depression. Still think the Cubs teams of the mid-late 2000s are amongst the elite in baseball consistently if Prior stayed healthy. Z was the next closest to a true ace and he just walked too many guys to really join the elite. Imagine the 2008 team with Prior/Z/Dempster/Lilly as the first four in the rotation. Yeah they really need an ace here so I can move on from the whole Prior story....
  14. Oh man oh man oh man...Yankees vs Rangers...Old money vs Old Boys Club Ownership who found money out of nowhere....Opens with older, might one day he a HOFer ace Sabathia vs future ace Derek Holland. Not to mention the Giants are throwing Lincecum and Bumgarner against the Mets. I would really like to see wtf might be wrong with young Lincecum...IIRC he's always sucked agains the Mets. Really excited to see the Yankees play the Rangers though...That's going to be good baseball. The Yankees will see Darvish, I'm pretty sure.
  15. Wilson and Bryant are real close...I think that one will be a good battle. Really like Wilson, and don't see Bryant as significant better or worse yet. Both should bring plenty of RH power to the table. That said, you're pretty right on not drafting based on what's coming out next year. That was a little ridiculous to say considering the nature of a draft.
  16. I have to stop forgetting about Stanek because damn he is impressive (tall, loose, athletic, wipeout stuff, has the kind of fastball you look for and I think it translates to starting as a pro)...Covey I liked coming out of HS, but not sure he's a top tier pick right now.
  17. Not too big on Whitson really...would take almost all of this year's high ranking college arms over him. I'm big on size and athleticism on an early pick when it's there to have it, and don't think he has enough of it.
  18. Hmmm....this is a fairly easy question maybe but I want to ask it anyway: There's two OT prospects who were once very touted but now might not go until the 4th at the earliest due to injury, Nate Potter and Andrew Datko.. Which is less finished as a prospect and will make it in the NFL? I'll throw out that Datko was probably more complete as a prospect before injuries, but both have been hit really hard with injuries.
  19. I don't even like Maples...He's got raw tools with the proper size and athleticism, but I completely agree with everyone who hates how he throws the ball. The good thing? He's not terrible up until his foot lands...oh, and obviously that he's young and athletic enough to do an overhaul. It really is bothersome that Wells is the SP prospect I have the most confidence in... Another thing to consider with the draft this year is that the pitching next year isn't as strong at the top, but there will be Austin Wilson (OF Stanford) as a bat. Edit: Oh, and Soler is a must.
  20. My thinking Liria was LH was the only thing that made him truly interesting to me. What do you know about Arias, Paulino, and Peralta? Youngest? Best stuff? Best size? Athleticism? Man do I hope they land Gausman...I'm fine with a few of the bat options but I want an upside arm that can move quickly really bad.
  21. Why? Because they were really good and then they weren't anymore after massive shoulder problems. Duh. Yeah, I guess I shouldn't just throw that out there like that, you MeanCow.
  22. Turbin's a shifty running back from Utah State. Shifty isn't the word I would use for the 230 pounder. I kind of see him as a Shonn Greene clone. Yeah, not sure what I was thinking there. I might have been confusing Turbin with Utah State's QB from last year (Keeton, I believe) who is pretty shifty, and exciting. Or I might have been confused because I was posting right after I woke up. This teammate, Michael Smith, is a pretty underrated athlete and comes much closer to the shifty term. I like Smith quite a bit as a sleeper...
  23. It better be at 23. Anyone remember who the bigger signing was between Cruz and Liria? Who's got the changeup between the two? Which one doesn't have a crappy breaking ball? WHY have I been convinced Liria is LH for a year now? I pretty much have no faith in either as long term starters either...Neither is big, neither gets ARL points (which are worth alot), neither throws a ton of strikes...OTOH, they might be the next wave of interesting relief arms...Even then, looks like Burke is the most interesting there considering his velocity and IIRC he has a good slider. I ended last year pretty optimistic on the position players in the system, and I'm still there. OTOH, there just aren't alot of guys I like who project to SP, and if they do its as a very low upside one. Really hoping Simpson picks up as the year goes on, because the next most interesting arm after McNutt is Wells 2-3 levels below him.
